In the production of my storyboard for the initial sound, I discovered that I was interested in adding a smoke effect to the background of the stage behind the man playing the guitar.
In response, I studied a YouTube video in research of methods to develop a smoke effect through the use of the fractal noise preset. Following this, I experimented with adjusting various qualities of the complexity, evolution and opacity to discover the most effective and realistic interpretation.

IKON Gallery
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In response to the sound provided this week, we have visited the IKON Gallery in support of inspiration towards the production of our animation. Following this, we have discovered a collection of performance art pieces that are audio responsive as such to our animation brief.
We’ve discovered that we were inspired by the Strobe Light involved in the Waterfall sound responsive piece due to that it was effective in developing tension within the room and supported the energy of the waterfall on the Television Screen.
As a result of this, we’ve decided to experiment with a use of a bright strobe light that will shine upon the animation to build further tension surrounding the mask that we’ve designed previously.

Jacques Berman Webster II known professionally as Travis Scott is an American rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer from Houston, Texas.
Following inspiration of Travis Scott’s music video for ‘Goosebumps’, I have discovered an alternative design process of animation and video with the use of Final Cut Pro, After Effects or Premier Pro.
Scott uses a heavy influence of psychedelic visual representation within ‘Goosebumps’ with the use of vibrant colour, hallucinogenic imagery and sound. For instance, ‘2:06 - 2:08’ Scott presents a hallucination of a pair of snakes exiting his eyes. Following this, I have discovered that I could apply this technique to my project to the extent of supporting my focus to communicate the downfall of the abuse of psychedelics within rap culture that Scott is involved in that carries a very sinister mood.
As a result of this, I have decided to experiment with the collaboration of video and nonsensical imagery applied through After Effects to express the dangers of drug abuse with visual representations that shock and inform the viewer of its dangers including anxiety, paranoia and death.

Universal Everything
Universal Everything is a global collective of digital artists, designers, animators, musicians and developers owned by creative director Matt Pyke. The agency creates interactive video and multi-sensory experiences for leading organisations as such as: Apple, Audi, Chanel and Google.
Tumblr media
Techniques involved within the design process aim to explore human expression in an immersive, dynamic and innovative manner that encourages an audience to interact with their exhibitions and products. Universal Everything integrates moving image and unique environments involving the illumination of iconic architecture as such to the Sydney Opera House in Australia to elaborate and utilise upon the curvature, dimension and scale of the building by projecting illuminated animated graphics on its surface to be viewed from an alternative energetic angle to their audience. The graphics used are well catered to the surface that is projected upon focusing on vibrancy and range of movement in relation to the mood and emotion connoted from the environment.
Tumblr media
Universal Everything’s exhibition ‘Walking City’ explores human movement through the use of expressive motion graphics that evolve in shape, texture and fluidity to adapt to the environment that it’s within. In this process, the designers must be effective in the use of lighting to develop a strong sense of depth and shape to the alternative textures of the graphic as this quality is important in interpreting the motion of someone walking in direction and positioning. Additionally, the designers pay close attention to the link between the colour of background in conjunction with the alternative textures to further emphasise this transition. The colours used are often muted to develop a strong contrast to the graphic alongside the use of shadow to express a greater dimension and depth to the environment.
Following analysing the impact of the work I've discovered that the graphics are significant upon creating an emotional and inspirational response upon the observer to the extent of that they express a relatable empathy towards the movement and colour. Additionally, I believe that this can be measured to the extent of that the graphics encourage the audience to engage in interaction with the piece which are individual experiences to the observers reaction.
Furthermore, ’Fluid Bodies’ is a motion graphic studying human behaviour on a mass scale questioning the impact a crowd can have on an individual within it, creating an impression of the universality of human behaviour. The piece involves numerous groups collectively moving in opposite directions and explores the issue surrounding conformity. In the production of this, the designers have greatly focused upon identifying this with a use a vast range of colour to develop a dynamic separation between the individual groups and expresses great emotion from the alternated calm to aggressive movement and patterns generated.
Tumblr media
Polyfauna is an experimental collaboration between Radiohead, Nigel Godrich, Stanley Donwood and Universal Everything. The piece explores ‘a free, exploratory audiovisual app, born out of Radiohead’s The King of Limbs sessions and Stanley Donwood’s sketchbooks’. Following analysing the impact of the work I've discovered that the graphics are significant upon creating an emotional response upon the observer to the extent of that the graphics reflect the dramatic energy of the instrumentals in colour and movement.
Additionally, I’ve discovered that in contrast to the expression of ‘Fluid Bodies’ surrounding the human form in movement ‘Polyfauna’ simulation focuses upon nature and the relationship between the emotion of the instrumental and the distortion of wildlife and the atmosphere. For instance, as a reflection of a loud or sharp that expresses ‘sadness’ within the instrumental the graphics would deepen in colour and expand in size with a connoted ‘deep blue’ colour. Furthermore, I believe this can be measured to the extent of that in the interaction of the piece the observer is involved in the use of virtual reality which engages vision and sound encouraging them to explore the piece.

Caitlin Cadieux is a designer, illustrator, and animator currently based in Troy, NY. Initially, Cadieux became of interest due to her versatile illustrative style that is expressed in her designs, however, following further research I discovered that I became particularly interested in her portfolio of animation. Cadieux uses an abstract approach to her illustration that expresses an impressive fluid motion and awareness to the use of a range of tones to develop a sense of shadow and depth to her work.
How this relates to my project:
Following analysing Cadieux’s work, I’ve discovered that this may be an effective form of communication to address my project brief to the extent of that her designs are focused towards animated illustrative visuals alongside informative statistics that represent a transcript as such to the speech involved in Sound 2.
