Morton Lloyd Garchik Woodcut ‘We in Winter-Woods’ 1960s/70s.

(Morton Lloyd Garchik is best known for his book illustration art. Besides illustrating many fine novels of fiction and children’s literature, Morton Garchik has authored two important books upon art instruction, Art Fundamentals: Basics of Drawing, Painting, Sculpture and Printmaking (1979) and Creative Visual Thinking (1981).Many of Morton Garchik’s original prints were published by the Associated American Artists of New York. 

Born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1929, his art training began at the Art School of the Brooklyn Museum in 1948, was interrupted for military service in 1950. Upon discharge in 1952, he resumed studies at the School for Visual Arts, New York, where he won first prize in drawing in 1955 and second prize in illustration in 1956. Garchik’s woodcuts have been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the continental United States and Honolulu. He also had two one-man shows in New York, Chicago and Toronto. His many book illustrations have appeared in national magazines, notably ‘Harpers.’ In 1965 he won the Olivet College Print Collection Purchase Award.)
