Module 6: Innovation Tutorial
Being in the film studies program, the main marketable value in my arsenal of skill sets is the ability to create documentary film or other films. If I were to meet a powerful entrepreneur I would "sell" myself by showing how these skills could be of monetary value. My elevator pitch would be, "you won't find another person who makes docs like myself. I'll take seemingly irrelevant bits of information and craft a compelling narrative the audiences have been waiting for." This sets me apart as it shows how I am different from others and that there would be a high demand for my work which would make me profitable. This is just a hypothetical pitch for this assignment but the idea is clear.
When trying to brainstorm as to what the pitch should be, I had to think about what the powerful entrepreneur would likely want to hear, what skill sets of mine would mean something to them, and how I could come across as genuine and likeable in my sales pitch. I went through a few different versions before settling on this one because I feel it best showcases what would sell from my work and why I should be invested in. This person would be risking their own money for me so I better give them good reason to and make it seem fool proof. I thought maybe I would discuss other skill sets but you also have to put your best foot forward in a sense as you only have one opportunity with this person and you better take it.

Tutorial Assignment
How would you search for an exact word or phrase? For example if I was searching for Mean Girls 2 and I wanted to know who directed the film I would add "IMDB" to the search bar.
How would you search for something on a specific site? If I was looking for an old friend on Facebook for example and I knew he lived in Montreal, I would search his name and then add in advanced search that he lived in Montreal. This would give me a more specific search of who he actually is rather then see everyone on the planet with the friends name.
How would you correctly search for a definition? If I was searching for the word Escapade for example, I would google Escapade definition. I would get a variety of results with the top being the following definition. Noun "an act or incident involving excitement, daring, or adventure"
How would you search for a specific product available within a specific price range? If I wanted to search for a white t shirt that is in cost under $5 I would google it in the shopping section and then adjust the price range so i would see shirts at a minimum cost of $0 and a maximum of $5.
How would you search for a specific filetype? If I was looking for a film in an MP4 format for example I would google the film title and add .mp4 following the title. This would give me a google drive link typically of the film I was looking for. Google drive files also can't be blocked on copyright grounds so this makes it a fairly effective way to find films in certain filetypes.
How would you include or ignore words in your search? I would go in and search a certain keyword associated with what I was trying to find. For example: Harry Potter 8th book. It would bring me to the topic of Harry Potter and then specifically find any speculation on the internet of a 8th novel. If I wanted to remove a keyword I simply wouldn't type the keyword.
How would you find sites/pages similar to an existing one? If I was looking for a video I saw on Youtube on Vimeo for example I would go to Vimeo and use the same keywords I used to search the video on youtube and then search it in Vimeo.
How would you confirm the exact form of a quote even if you were missing some of the words? I would google search what I remembered from the quote and look through the results to see if I could find exactly what I was thinking about to begin with.
How would search for pages containing two connected words? If pickup trucks was a brand of alcohol and I was searching for actual vehicles to drive I would add "vehicles for sale" onto the search just to give the search engine just a bit more information to make it more specific.
How would you search for social media content containing a specific tag? On all social medias like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok and Tumblr you can actually search hashtags and that would bring you to a page with all posts on the site containing that hashtag. If I was looking for something very specific on that site I would likely google it.

Social Medias best practice
Social media is a world known industry aimed at connecting people in a way like never before. Now it is possible to search the name of anyone in a search engine and odds are you will get plenty of results. While there are many positives and negatives to social media, by far the group of people that have benefitted most from it is entertainers. Before getting big and famous whether it be in acting, documentary, music, writing etc... would all have to go through large studios in order to be monetized. You would also have to be very lucky to even come close to getting a record deal or a movie deal with a studio. Now everything is achievable online with the push of a button. There are many celebrities who have risen to prominence in the last 10 years alone solely from social media platforms like youtube, facebook, instagram, twitter and many more. You don't need big record executives to give a singer fans, in todays age the singer could have fans long before they get any kind of record deal. It's interesting to understand the vast change in landscape that industry has undergone in such short time. It also affected established celebrities way of communicating with their fans by having an open platform for everyone to talk on. This has taken power away from tabloid magazines as now the artist can have agency over their responses and their fans can fight against any "rumours" that may arise. This is just one way that social media has completely transformed the game in terms of just one industry.
