FMP Evaluative Statement
My final major project has been a good way for me to motivate myself to work hard because the subject I have chosen is something I am passionate about. I wrote in my statement of intent that I would recreate and redesign a website for a business and that I would redesign the business logo. I have done both. I have also designed a business card for the exhibition because I thought it would give my exhibition space a professional feel as I am promoting a business. At the start of my FMP I intended to design three logos for three different yards. I am pleased I didn’t because the quality would not have been as high as concentrating on one logo. I am happy I was pointed in the right direction at the start of the project but I have also enjoyed the independence of the FMP. The independence meant that I could see how much work I could produce on my own during the nine weeks I had. Having chosen my subject, I think that helped because I have a good knowledge of it and a strong interest as well.
I have enjoyed these nine weeks so much that I know graphic design is the pathway for me, I think the work I have produced is the best work I’ve done so far on this foundation course.
I was persistent in my time management due to my motivation I had for this self directed project.
I had never attempted to design a website before so the research stage of the project was an important part for me. I could research different designers, for example Dan Cederholm and Sarah Parmenter. However researching everything related with racing I already had knowledge for but had to record this in my journal. Researching the business I was redesigning for was a huge help including visiting the business. Visiting the yard meant I could ask questions and take photos, which was an important part of my exhibition space.
I didn’t use any books during my research but if I did I would have looked at equine photography books, instead of this I researched inspiring photographers such as Matthew Seed and Mark Beaumont.
When I work on a project I think one of the most significant aspect of a self directed project is the research, I think without research it would be very difficult to have an outcome.
I feel my solution is creatively exciting because my process of deigning my logo included me using a letterpress and personally as a designer I appreciate this process and how important it can be and is.
If I was to do anything differently in my project it would be to have experimented more with different website designs. I am happy with my outcome but because I was short of time I only looked at a few different design layouts.
At first I thought my letterpress prints had gone wrong because the ink did not print clean. However this was an advantage for me because this added an old rustic look to my logo. I didn’t want my logo to have a tradition design with horses on so I am happy with the outcome of my logo.
I have learnt a lot from installing my exhibition space. I have leant that spacing and simplicity is everything in graphic design exhibition space. The simplicity of an exhibition is so important because it is all about the quality of the work and not the quantity. I am happy with the way my exhibition layout was set up and I wouldn’t change a thing.

Tonight I finished my evaluative statement so I took my portfolio from my studio space and put it down stairs next to my exhibition space. This year has gone so fast, I have made life long friends on this course. I have learnt so much in this year and will carry on learning throughout my career.

Showing and talking about my work. I enjoyed explaining my work to people who hadn't seen the progression of my work during these nine weeks.

Before the exhibition I added racing googles to the manikin because I had some in the studio and had forgotten to add them. I don't think anyone would have noticed if they weren't there but I knew they weren't there. So it mattered to me.

We went with the Strawberry laces image because it went better with the title that everyone had voted for which is 289. We then added 289 days of creativity to give some indication that it was an art show. We also thought the strawberry laces was a version of a timeline with the tangled laces being your experience on foundation.

Exhibition Feedback
Public feedback: Professional Well presented
The main comments I had was that my work looked professional and well presented. I am happy with these comment, I didn't hear any bad feedback but if I did I would have took it on board to improve in my future work.

Last day of setting up before the show this evening. Really happy with how the whole vis com room looks. Out of all the rooms I've seen from this exhibition I feel the vis com room is the most professional looking.

So today I installed my exhibition, I finally hung my frames up. I gave them a clean before handing them up. The computer was simple to instal, I just plugged it in, turned it on and googled my website and it came up. I will have to make sure the website is ok for tomorrow but there is no reason for it to go wrong. I am bringing a saddle wrack in because the wall saddle wrack would have been too heavy for the wall to take. It would have broken the thin wall. I will also bring in a bridle and some racing silks to put on a manikin. I might not have all of these props because I don't want to over crowd my space and draw the attention away from my work. I will see hoe it looks and make my decision tomorrow morning. These are the last adjustments before the show tomorrow.

Some of this jockey kit was given to me for my exhibition by my cousin who rides out for a trainer and who used to race as a teenager. Some of the other items I have got are from home because my family used to have race horses. I won't need all of this but I will see what works with exhibition space tomorrow.

Whilst I was waiting for the paint to dry at my sister exhibition space we both measured where my photo frames will be going. The plinth with the computer on will go to the side of my frames so the computer doesn't block the photos. I will drill nails into the wall tomorrow because I didn't have time today and I also wanted Karl to check over the spacings and heights.

I carried on helping my sister today. Using stain block we covered the sanded down areas on the wall. We ran out off stain block so used a filler, a bit like ce because there was still glow in the dark paint showing. After letting the filler dry we used two layers of white paint over the top of the filler. After that we painted the mushroom colour over the top and it seems to have worked. There was some bits that still show letters but we have nearly made them disappear. Tomorrow we we will add two more layers of paint and hopefully the wall will be finished.

Today I am helping my sister again because I can’t start putting my frames up because I am in the middle of two people on the wall and they are not in today so I don’t know their measurements which they need. We started painting the walls in Flora’s room and the previous exhibition had glow in the dark paint which was covered up by white paint after. We could not see the glow in the dark paint until we started painting. We added to coats of paint but it wouldn’t cover up. So Flora is sanding the wall and then using block spray and then we are painting the wall again. This should cover up the glow in the dark paint. We will not know until tomorrow so we can let the paint dry.

All my photos arrived today so I have framed them all ready to take in on Tuesday. I have only got white boarders around my black and white photos because the white boarders will make them standout. My business cards also arrived, I am really pleased with how they look.

Today i was helping my sister paint a ceiling for her exhibition room. Flora needs it to block out the bright light and instal her own dimmed lights. Flora is creating a room that has a Hygge feel to it. Hygge is describes as a combination of cosiness, comfort, contentment and companionship. So Flora’s room will hopefully feel like home.

Exhibition Update
Today we are carrying on from yesterday, so painting all day. I personal don't have a lot to do for my exhibition space so I am helping anyone who has a lot to do. My photography I ordered for the exhibition have not arrived yet so I couldn't set up space anyway. I found out today that my website trial had expired so I will have to pay for a month so I will be able to access it for my exhibition.

Setting up Exhibition rooms
Today the whole of the foundation course started to paint all of the exhibition spaces needed for our show. Karl gave most of the vis com students an exhibition space today because there isn't many of us in our group. This meant that our room was used for filling wholes on plinths and painting plinths and shelves. My plinth is being made because two side were missing.
