Final Assignment
Weaved Through The Heart is a digital painting that merges four abstract works into a unified composition, styled as a woven tapestry. This piece celebrates and intertwines two art forms - abstract expressionism and weaving - drawing parallels between the dynamic energy of abstract painting and the structural intricacies of weaving.
The four individual abstract works are interlaced, mimicking the act of weaving, with segments starting, stopping, and reappearing in unexpected locations. This approach references the historical significance of weaving while reflecting the dynamic and unpredictable nature of abstract expressionism. The result is a visual rhythm that invites the viewer to engage actively while tracing the transitions and connections between the pieces.
The chosen presentation format on Instagram highlights the connection between these two art forms. Displaying the painting across a grid format echoes the patchwork-like assembly of quilts and tapestries. Each individual square becomes a standalone element, yet together they form a cohesive whole, reminiscent of woven objects. This deliberate choice emphasizes the structural and conceptual ties between weaving and abstract art while showcasing my deep appreciation and passion for both mediums and their historical and cultural significance.

Regarding my Internet Culture Final assignment, I decided to do two pieces. The link provided right above is one of the twp pieces. These two pieces both deal with the internet and how it has evolved over time.
The first image is a collage of several different technological items, specifically old personal telephones and systems of that sort when they were first beginning. There are images of Microsoft windows, an image of hands touching - one human hand and one hand that seems to be nonhuman and "other-worldly", there is also an emotional message, and an image of a prosthetic arm. I chose these images to show the progression of technology and in that advancement, give this technology a sense of self/voice because we've gone so far as to have such innovative prosthetics and medicine. I like the idea of technology growing so much and giving it this human touch the more it advances because it shows where this progress came from and how.
The entire has a glitch effect over it to dramatize the topic of how much technology has evolved over the years by utilizing an effect that I feel is very dated in a sense, it carries a lot history within just like punk music does.
The link shows the second image. My second piece is a colorful GIF that consists of many different worded GIFs that I feel mark our collective history, interests, and societal culture. The GIFs in the second piece are several overlapping trendy, slang words that we found, and still find, ourselves using. Even though many of these words are still being used today, I think many of these words represent certain demographics and generations because of their context. The past and present are being met in this piece, touching on the topic of societal and internet culture. As for the composition of the piece, the placements of the GIFs are meant to resemble how overly-saturated and fast-paced the world has become over the years.

For my Internet Culture Draft assignment down below, I didn't have time to fully complete it and I struggled a bit in coming up with ideas for this assignment, but I decided to work with the popular "Rickrolling" meme that involves a sudden appearance of the 1987 music video to Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" song which serves as a way of tricking people into thinking they are going to view something in specific, all for it to be a joke and turn into this "fake" thing.
I thought using a GIF of this meme could be a funny play into the topic of internet culture, and simultaneously tricking the viewer when they view the GIF. I added the "Deal With It" sunglasses that became a popular meme and phrase during the early to mid 2000s. Seeing the sunglasses with the Rick-Roll meme seems like a funny play as the Rick Astley meme is telling you that you got tricked, with the sunglasses telling you "oh well, deal with it".
If I had more time, I would've liked to add more funny memes that hold similar meanings to these two memes.

Appropriation Art Assignment
For the Appropriation Art assignment, I decided to work with Uta Barth and her photography that deals with various themes surrounding perception, optical illusion, light, and space. She uses photographic perception in ways that translate to human perception and because of all this, her work is very ethereal. Her photography is something that really appeals to me, so I chose to use some of my favorite photographs of hers along with bits of many Mary Oliver’s poems. Mary Oliver is one of my favorite writers. I feel her writing and the themes in her work are so moving, I thought combining these two artists made sense in their similarities. I chose these two artists with the purpose of creating a narrative that talks about themes of loneliness, struggles, hope, perseverance, and healing. The narrative consists of a conversation between the person struggling and the hope they encounter that puts them on this path of healing, whatever that hope can be to the reader.
Each poem within the photographs speaks about one specific chapter of one’s life while being interconnected once you read it all together. The first photograph starts with the discovery of one’s problems moving towards the acceptance of them and the excitement to heal and move onto something better. The second and third photograph deal with the journey one takes to heal themselves - specifically, the strength and determination one finds once they decide they have the chance to move on from what is ailing them. In the second photograph there are constant reminders that serve as guidance. In the third photograph, we read the progress this person has made towards moving on and we see them in this newfound space of them finally in a space of content and safety - feeling much better than how they started.
The bits of poems used to create my poem are all taken from several different poems from Mary Oliver. The poems being Wild Geese, The Kingfisher, The Journey, When Death Comes, Don’t Hesitate, Morning, Walking to Oak-Head Pond, and Thinking of the Ponds I Will Visit in the Next Days and Weeks.

For this assignment, I wanted to try my hand at implementing a lot of glitching to the images I chose. I really like abstract work, so I wanted to see if I could implement an abstract element to my pictures through the glitching and distortion. Every image has been put through the Glitchy3bitDither website at least once, whereas the first image is the only one that been put through two different websites to achieve its final look.
Regarding my first image, I used both Bit Vision and Glitchy3bitDither so that I could add multiple different glitch and distortion effects to the pictures. The first layer of the image is the rectangular image that has a black border, it's part of a zine I had made of digital abstract paintings. It was done on the Bit Vision website. The next layer consists of sliced glitches which was done in the Glitchy3bitDither website. The last layer has the larger white/red/blue sliced glitches which was also done in the Glitchy3bitDither website.
The second image is from a close-up of one of my abstract paintings. I put this image through Glitchy3bitDither only once because I ended up enjoying how much it "broke" apart the close-up image and completely transformed it into something else. I felt like it was the perfect amount of glitch where it wasn't too visually overwhelming, yet contained a good amount of glitch within it because of the amount of texture and color that was already present in the original image.
I decided to do my third image a little differently to try out different effects and not overwhelm with so much glitch, despite liking the look of it. The third image is a photo of the hallway in my house that leads to the bedrooms, and my bedroom is the one that is illuminating the hallway in that fluorescent pink glow. The original photo feels a bit eerie so I wanted to work on that feeling and emphasize it. To emphasize that feeling of eeriness and desolateness, I put it through Glitchy3bitDither once and liked the duplicated image the generator made.
All in all, I really liked working on this assignment and being able to try out different techniques that dealt with distortion and glitch. That's something I'd never done before, but had always been curious about because the look/feel of it is so interesting so it was very inspiring to work on.

GIF Artworks Assignment
My intended goal for this project was to work with and emphasize some of my favorite memories of the year. Lately, I've been getting back into poetry and changing my perspective back to something lighter and healthier, which is what these memories represent for me. Looking at these GIFs from videos I took reminds me of the beauty that this world has to offer and it reminds me of the work I'm actively doing to lead a life that I can be proud of.
For the techniques and tools regarding the production of these GIFS, I used the website ezgifs.com. That website helped me in converting my videos to GIF format. It also offered many different options for effects, speed, length, frames, and more which was helpful.
If I had more time, I would definitely work on perfecting the speed of the GIFs, and adding sound to them. I think sound would really help elevate them and deepen their meaning.
