Esbjörn at the Study Corner (1912). Carl Larsson (Swedish, 1853-1919). Watercolor on paper. Nationalmuseum.
Carl and Karin married in 1883 and had eight children, the youngest being Esbjörn born in 1900. Karin and the children quickly became Carl’s favourite models. In 1888 Karin’s father, Adolf Bergöö, gave them Lilla Hyttnäs, a small house in Sundborn. Karin, who had given up painting once she married Carl, found an outlet for her creativity in decorating Lilla Hyttnäs, their new family home.
