Westphal Event
The event i attended was the screening of Edgar Endress’ video of Haiti. The video held a plethora of content, with a wide range of art styles used. I very much enjoyed the event and felt like it was a unique experience. I haven’t really ever been to any art installation or screening in my life, so I was glad I was able to view the video.
The video held a lot of bizarre aspects to it, from a Hatian talking robot to a man walking with a skull and a top hat. Seeing this at the end of the year was neat because of the language I could use to describe the video; contrast used, rectilinear vs. curvilinear, different planes, etc. all in all it was a very exciting screening to see, I am glad I went.

After I had watched the video, I came to fully appreciate and admire Paula Scher, as her work is outstanding. With a plethora of different styles, fonts, and music really shows her range. My favorite of her works was the maps of the us, which i thought was very interesting and impressive.
When it comes to her workspace it comforts me to find hers as messy as mine. Its cool to be able to relate to her in this way, as it humanizes her in being just as normal as everyone else, yet her work is iconic and well done. All in all she is a fantastic artist and I enjoyed watching the video

Comic book illustration has always been my favorite type of art and has inspired me to become a graphic designer. Out of all of these great illustrators, Jim Lee’s Batman sketch (7) is my favorite. Jim Lee is my favorite comic book illustrator, as I always feel like he adds a sort of grit to his comics, which makes his work really pop. His use of hatching makes Batman look very muscular, giving definition.

When I look at logos I like to figure out what draws me to look at them. I think the main aspect that draws me in is the color combinations and choice of art style in each logo. for example I’ve always enjoyed the MAD Comics logo for its dynamic color style and art style used. The one logo that differs from the rest is the Versace logo, as it holds no color. I think just the design and basic contour are enough to draw you into the logo.

all of these album covers hold very original and outstanding artwork, using various styles to appeal to the public. some albums, such as the Rage Against the Machine’s “rage against the machine” album cover, holds many controversial views that make the cover that more exciting. Iconic albums such as Van Halen’s “1984″ and Nirvana’s “nevermind” are very original and appealing to the eye, using oxymorons and bizarre photography. I enjoy these album covers due to the colors used, the topics brought up from these works of art, and the overall unique and fascinating styles and portrayal of each band.
