CRAWLING BACK TO YOU – CHRIS STURNIOLO
Tumblr media
pairing: toxic!fwb!chris sturniolo x fwb!fem!reader synopsis: you knew it was toxic. him. the whatever-situationship you had. you knew you shouldn’t go back, but somehow you always do. maybe it’s the way he says your name, or how he makes it feel real for a second. you forget how much it hurts—until it does again. and by then, you’re already in too deep. warnings: lowercase intended, use of y/n, angst, mentions of sex, toxic relationship
Tumblr media
“what the fuck is this?” y/n said, slamming a tube of lip gloss onto the table with more force than necessary. it clattered against the wood, bounced once, then rolled slightly—wobbling before settling right between them.
chris barely glanced up. “lipstick or whatever,” he muttered, one shoulder lifting in a lazy half-shrug, his eyes still glued to his phone like it was more important than the person in front of him.
“this isn’t mine, chris,” y/n said, her voice low now. sharp. dangerous in that quiet, glass-edged way that always came before something shattered.
he hummed. barely even a real sound. not acknowledgment. not denial. just... noise. like she was background static. like she wasn’t even worth the energy it would take to lie.
her fingers twitched at her sides. she stared at him, waiting. hoping. god, hoping he’d say something that would make this make sense. that he’d flinch. that his expression would shift—guilt, panic, something. she would’ve taken a stupid excuse, even a bad one. “it’s my sister’s.” “a friend left it.” “i don’t know where it came from.” anything.
even a lie would’ve shown he cared enough to try.
but he didn’t.
he just kept scrolling. like her pain was a playlist he’d already skipped through a hundred times. eyes moving across his screen like it held more weight than her heart ever did.
“that’s it?” she asked, a bitter laugh bubbling up, tasting like rust in the back of her throat. “you’re not even gonna pretend to care?”
chris sighed then. like she was the one exhausting him. like she was the problem. he finally lowered his phone, fingers still resting on the screen, thumb twitching like he couldn’t wait to go back to it.
“what do you want me to say?” he asked, his tone flat. bored. defensive.
as if it were her being unreasonable.
and somehow, that hurt more than if he’d yelled. more than if he’d admitted to everything. more than if he’d just said it meant nothing. because at least then, nothing would’ve meant something.
“we’re not even together anyway,” he added, casual. careless. like it was just a fact. not a bomb. not a confession. not a blade to the chest.
her breath caught mid-throat. a thousand things she could’ve said stacked behind her teeth, too thick to speak. instead, she swallowed them all down and said:
“you sure act like it whenever another guy’s interested in me.”
her voice cracked halfway through. not from heartbreak—but exhaustion. the kind that settles in your bones and stays there, even when you sleep. the kind that doesn’t go away with time, because it isn’t just about this fight. it’s about every one before it. every silent moment. every cold shoulder. every gaslight flickering in the dark.
he didn’t respond. didn’t argue. didn’t deny. just stared at her like she was loud for no reason. like her anger was inconvenient. like her pain was annoying.
and that’s when it all started pouring out. like floodgates breaking. like a dam she didn’t know she was holding back had finally given in.
“you don’t get to pick and choose when i matter to you,” y/n said, quieter now. no yelling. no drama. just truth. heavy, ugly, cutting truth. “you don’t get to play boyfriend when it suits you, and then act like i’m a stranger when it doesn’t. you don’t get to use me at night—take from me—and then pretend there was never anything there.”
the silence that followed wasn’t still. it wasn’t peaceful. it was suffocating. thick. pressing against her chest, sinking her further into the realization she didn’t want to face.
he didn’t move.
didn’t reach for her.
didn’t look ashamed.
and that was her answer.
“fuck you, chris,” she whispered, more to herself than to him. there was no need to scream it. no need to throw anything. the words settled like dust in the air. like ashes. like the aftermath of something already burned down.
she grabbed her bag, fingers shaking so hard she almost dropped it. she turned before he could see her fall apart.
she didn’t slam the door.
didn’t give him that satisfaction.
the quiet was louder than anything she could’ve screamed.
outside, the air was colder than she remembered. it bit at her skin like it knew something had changed. her hands trembled as she fumbled with her keys, missing the lock more than once. her reflection in the car window looked unfamiliar. red eyes. pale lips. someone on the edge.
the drive home was a blur—red lights, green lights, she couldn’t tell the difference. she didn’t even know if the radio was on. everything felt distant. faded. like she was watching her own life from outside her body.
when she got home, the silence in her apartment was brutal. not comforting. not calm. just empty. she dropped her bag. her keys. herself. right onto the couch, like gravity had finally dragged her down.
and then it hit her.
the sob. the kind that starts in your stomach and explodes out of your throat before you can catch it. she curled in on herself, sleeves pulled over her hands, crying like she’d been holding it in for years.
it wasn’t about the lip gloss. it was never about the lip gloss.
it was about every unanswered question. every time she felt like an afterthought. every night he held her like she meant something, and every morning he acted like she didn’t. it was about loving someone who never really showed up.
it hurt—god, it hurt—not because she lost him. but because she finally realized she never really had him.
her phone buzzed.
once. twice. again.
his name on the screen. still saved with that stupid heart. still pretending like things hadn’t fallen apart in her hands.
can we talk?
she stared at the message, heart thudding. she didn’t answer. didn’t move. just flipped the phone face-down.
the silence that followed was heavier than before.
but she let it stay.
that night, sleep never really came. her bed felt too cold. her brain too loud. she kept replaying it—his shrug. his voice. his indifference.
but somewhere in the wreckage of her thoughts, something shifted. small. fragile. a tiny part of her had finally had enough.
in the morning, her eyes were swollen, but her chest didn’t feel as crushed. she moved slow. like someone learning how to breathe again. made coffee. washed her face. didn’t check her phone.
and the days passed.
not easily. not without hurting. but they passed.
she still missed him, in flashes. when she heard a song they used to play. when she made too much coffee. when her phone buzzed and she still, for a split second, hoped it was him—even when she knew better.
the messages didn’t stop.
sometimes they were angry. sometimes apologetic. sometimes manipulative wrapped in sweetness.
but they weren’t for her. not really. they were for the version of her who would forgive. who would fold. who would forget.
and then, one tuesday, something broke.
she hadn’t slept. hadn’t eaten. everything felt too heavy. she curled into the couch, sobbing into her sleeves again, hating herself for still missing someone who never chose her.
and when his name lit up her screen again—she caved.
i miss you
three words.
and it was enough.
her fingers hovered. then typed.
come over
she stared at it too long. prayed it wouldn’t send. dreaded that it would.
but the reply came fast.
on my way
she sat there, hollowed out. part of her wanted to scream. part of her just didn’t want to be alone.
she threw on a hoodie. wiped her face. paced.
the knock came quicker than she expected.
her heart jumped.
she opened the door—just a crack.
there he was.
same boy. same tired eyes. same half-smile like nothing ever happened.
he stepped inside like he still belonged.
they stood there, quiet. heavy.
“you look tired,” he said softly.
“i am,” she replied.
he reached for her.
and she let him.
god, she let him.
his arms felt like memory. like habit. like weakness.
and for a moment, it felt good to stop fighting.
but underneath the warmth, beneath the way her body leaned into his like muscle memory—there it was. the truth. bare. undeniable.
this wasn’t healing.
this was reopening the wound just to feel something again.
and she knew: she could never stop herself, that she'd always end up crawling back to him.

TEMPORARY DISTANCE – MATT STURNIOLO
Tumblr media
pairing: matt sturniolo x fem!reader synopsis: reader and matt are long distance because of the tour :( warnings: lowercase intended, use of y/n, temporary long distance relationship
Tumblr media
“hey baby,” matt said, his voice low and a little raspy as he laid back on his bunk bed, the narrow space barely big enough to stretch out. his phone was propped up against the side of the tour bus wall, bouncing slightly with every bump in the road. soft yellow lights flickered above him, casting a warm, hazy glow over his face, shadows moving across his jawline like slow waves. his hoodie was zipped halfway, and his collarbone peeked out from beneath the fabric, rising and falling with each tired breath.
y/n smiled as his face came into view, the tightness in her chest easing just a little. even pixelated, he looked like comfort. she was curled up on her side under a thick blanket, one leg tucked against her chest, the other half-exposed to the cool night air in her room. her phone was resting against a slightly crooked stack of books—one of which still had a bookmark poking out from a chapter she couldn’t finish reading without him. a candle flickered beside her, casting golden light across her knuckles and the soft slope of her cheek. the scent of lavender and cedarwood filled the room, grounding her.
outside, distant city noise passed through her cracked window—cars, the occasional honk, footsteps echoing from the street below—but it all blurred into background noise the moment he spoke again.
“hi matt,” she said, voice warm and gentle, like the first sip of tea after a long day. “how was the show?”
he ran a hand through his hair, still damp at the ends from a quick post-show shower, then scratched lightly at the side of his neck. a slow grin tugged at the corner of his mouth, sleepy but real. “fun. the crowd was nice—really reactive to the surprises and stories. made it feel alive, you know? they screamed at everything. in a good way. but...” he paused, letting his gaze linger on her, “wish you were there.”
she laughed softly, a sound so familiar it made his stomach ache in the best way. “me too. it’s not the same watching from my phone. i missed the chaos. and the dumb faces you make when things go wrong.”
he groaned dramatically, pulling the hoodie over part of his face. “unbelievable betrayal. i give you my heart, and you roast me for my performance anxiety expressions.”
“mmhm,” she teased, eyes crinkling. “exactly.”
he shook his head, laughing under his breath. “how was your day though?
“boring,” y/n said, dragging the word out with a sigh. she shifted under the covers, adjusting the pillow beneath her head. “did laundry. cleaned the fridge. went grocery shopping. watered my plants. it felt like it just... dragged. nothing felt fun. everything’s kinda quieter without you. i miss you, come home again, please.”
matt smiled sadly, rubbing at his eyes. “i wish, babe. five more shows. then i’m yours. for real. no more shows. no more tour buses. just... us.”
“ughhh,” she groaned, stretching one arm out toward the ceiling like she could pull time forward. “this is actual suffering.”
he reached toward the camera, like he could touch her face through the screen. “soon. i’ll make it up to you. movie marathons on the couch, chinese takeout, sleeping in so long we forget what day it is.”
“promise?” she whispered, her voice suddenly quieter, smaller. her eyes were shining, but she blinked quickly, like she didn’t want him to see.
“promise,” he said, without hesitation. “i’d be there already if i could. i think about it every night.”
she didn’t respond right away. just looked at him—really looked. her gaze tracing the slope of his nose, the curve of his lips, the tired but tender look in his eyes. her breath caught a little.
“hey,” matt said gently, leaning closer to the screen. “you okay?”
she nodded, barely. “yeah. just... i don’t know. it’s lonely without you.”
he sighed, rubbing the back of his neck, his voice dropping to a whisper. “i know. me too. it’s weird.”
they didn’t speak for a while after that, but the silence didn’t need to be filled. it settled between them like a blanket, like the kind of silence you only share with someone who really sees you. her blanket rustled slightly as she turned onto her side. his screen shifted as he repositioned the phone beside him, his fingers brushing the lens before it settled again.
“you wanna stay on the call?” he asked quietly, his voice slow and a little rougher now. “just... until you fall asleep?”
“only if you do too,” she said, already pulling the blanket up to her chin. her voice was muffled, but still warm. still full of love.
“deal,” he murmured. “wait—lemme plug in my phone first. not risking a mid-sleep disconnect. that’d be tragic.”
she laughed, soft and sleepy, as he fumbled off-screen, muttering curses under his breath. when he came back into frame, his hair was messier, and his eyes were half-lidded. she loved him like this—unguarded and soft at the edges.
“there,” he whispered, settling in again. the camera now rested sideways, giving her a clear view of his face, dimly lit and peaceful. his lashes cast small shadows over his cheeks. his hand disappeared beneath the blanket, his thumb absently tracing the edge of the fabric near his chin.
her screen was dim too, casting her in hues of blue and gold. she’d already turned on her side, phone tilted slightly, giving him a view of her tucked under the blanket, hair fanned out over her pillow.
“night, baby,” she murmured, her words slurring, breath slow and even.
“night, love,” he whispered, and there was a pause, like he wanted to say more, like there was a whole paragraph resting on his tongue. instead, he just said, “dream of me.”
neither of them hung up.
the call stayed connected long after their voices went quiet. soft breathing filled both ends. the screen dimmed to near black, but the faint glow lingered—proof that the connection was still there, even in sleep.
matt opened his eyes once, just for a second, and saw she was already out, lips slightly parted, cheeks soft and still.
“i love you,” he whispered, so quiet it barely reached the mic.
then he closed his eyes again, the phone cradled beside his pillow like a piece of her he got to keep.

STAY WITH ME – MATT STURNIOLO
Tumblr media
pairing: clingy!matt sturniolo x fem!reader synopsis: matt wants reader to stay warnings: lowercase intended, use of y/n, tooth rotting fluff
Tumblr media
rays of the sun peeped through the soft folds of the curtains, casting a warm, golden hue across the room and quietly announcing the arrival of a new day. nestled under the blankets on the bed was a couple—matt and y/n—entwined so closely it was as if even the air between them dared not exist. they lay wrapped around each other, still caught in the gentle haze of sleep, peaceful and undisturbed until the first light crept in and began to brush against their skin like a whisper.
y/n, a notoriously light sleeper, stirred first as the sunlight kissed her face. her eyelashes fluttered, delicate against her cheeks, before her eyes slowly blinked open, adjusting to the soft glow of morning. she let out a quiet yawn, her limbs instinctively trying to stretch out, but the motion was halted by the warm, grounding weight of matt’s arms still tightly wrapped around her. his hold was firm, yet comforting—possessive in the most affectionate way, as though some part of him feared she’d vanish if he loosened his grip.
she gave a gentle wriggle, trying to slip free, but the movement only caused matt to stir. his brows knit together slightly, and without opening his eyes, he mumbled in a sleep-heavy voice, “too early…” then, as if their closeness wasn’t already absolute, he buried his face deeper into the crook of her neck, letting out a low sigh that tickled her skin.
“matt, i have to start my day,” y/n whispered, trying not to smile as she resumed her gentle squirming.
matt’s arms only tightened around her in response, refusing to let her go. “no,” he said, voice muffled and stubborn.
y/n let out a soft laugh, her body going still as she looked down at him. “no?” she echoed, amused by his childish protest.
“mm-hmm,” he hummed, eyes still closed, face still pressed against her. “day doesn’t start unless you stay here. that’s the rule.”
“you just made that up,” she teased, her voice filled with affection.
“doesn’t mean it’s not real,” he murmured, finally cracking one eye open to look at her with the faintest, sleepy smile.
“whatever…” she mumbled, sighing softly as her fingers absentmindedly brushed a bit of hair from his forehead. “but matt, i seriously have to get up.”
“noooo,” matt whined, drawing the word out as he tightened his hold around her. “you stay.”
“matt… come on,” she tried to wiggle again, her voice a mix of fondness and mild frustration.
“if you get up, you hate me,” he pouted dramatically, peeking up at her with wide, exaggerated eyes.
“oh come on,” y/n gave him a pointed look, her lips twitching in amusement. “you’re not serious right now.”
“very serious!” he declared with mock gravity, shifting just enough to drape a leg over hers in a final act of defiance. “just stay for a few more minutes. five, tops.”
“you said that yesterday,” she said, raising a brow. “and then it turned into thirty.”
“well,” he said, smiling lazily, “yesterday’s minutes were different. these ones are special.”
“special, huh?”
“mm-hmm. these are ‘matt’s-in-love’ minutes. extremely rare. very valuable. cannot be wasted.”
she rolled her eyes, but her heart softened, the corners of her lips lifting into a quiet smile. “you’re ridiculous.”
“ridiculously in love with you,” he added, without missing a beat.
“ugh,” she groaned, trying to hide the way her cheeks warmed. “that’s so cheesy.”
“yeah, but you like it,” he said, eyes finally open now, looking at her like she was the only thing worth waking up for. “and you love me, so that means you’re kinda stuck.”
she sighed again, far less convincingly this time, and let herself melt into the mattress beside him, the tension in her limbs easing as he pulled her closer with a satisfied hum.
“five minutes,” she warned, already knowing it would be more.
“five,” he agreed, voice smug with victory. “maybe ten. or twenty. we’ll see.”
matt tucked his chin into the top of her head, sighing contentedly like he’d just won the world’s most important battle. his fingers lazily traced patterns along her back, slow and aimless, like he had all the time in the world.
“you’re the worst,” y/n mumbled against his chest, though she made no real effort to move.
“mmm. and yet, here you are,” he said smugly, pressing a sleepy kiss to her hairline. “clearly i’m doing something right.”
“you’re just warm,” she muttered, eyes fluttering shut for a moment despite herself. “like a human heater.”
“you forgot handsome. and charming. and persuasive.”
“you forgot delusional.”
matt gasped, full of mock offense. “you wound me.”
she snorted. “you’ll live.”
they laid there in comfortable silence for a beat, the kind that fills a room without needing words—just the rhythm of two hearts beating close together and the sound of morning creeping in around them. but eventually, y/n shifted again, gently tapping her fingers against his side.
“matt.”
“hm?”
“i really do have to get up soon. i’ve got that meeting at ten, and i still need to shower and eat and—”
“breakfast in bed,” he interrupted suddenly, lifting his head slightly like he’d just had a stroke of genius. “i’ll make you breakfast. you stay in bed, and i’ll bring it to you. perfect solution.”
y/n raised a skeptical brow. “you? cooking? last time you tried, the fire alarm went off.”
“that was one time,” he argued. “and the toaster was faulty.”
“it was cereal, matt.”
“a complicated cereal,” he said with a straight face. “it had... granola clusters.”
she giggled, burying her face into his chest to hide her smile. “you’re such an idiot.”
“but i’m your idiot,” he grinned, wrapping both arms around her again with triumphant glee.
“unfortunately,” she teased.
“blessedly,” he corrected, then leaned down to kiss the tip of her nose. “just five more minutes. i swear. and then you can get up and do all your productive, impressive, boss-person things.”
she looked up at him, eyes soft. “you promise?”
he nodded solemnly. “scout’s honor.”
“you were never a scout.”
“okay, boyfriend’s honor. that’s rarer.”
she laughed again, the kind of laugh that melted into a smile before it was even fully formed. and finally, with a dramatic sigh, she let her head fall back to the pillow.
“five minutes.”
“five minutes,” he repeated, already settling in like he’d just convinced the universe to slow down time itself.
matt’s thumb traced slow, lazy circles against the small of her back, his breathing evening out again like he could drift right back to sleep. y/n lay still in his arms, staring at the ceiling with a soft, resigned smile playing on her lips. the room was quiet except for the distant hum of the city waking up outside, and the occasional rustle of the sheets when either of them shifted slightly.
“you know,” he said after a moment, voice hushed, almost thoughtful, “someday we won’t have to argue about five more minutes. we’ll just have the time.”
she glanced up at him, her head still tucked against his chest. “what do you mean?”
“i mean,” he said, brushing a stray strand of hair behind her ear, “someday, maybe we’ll wake up like this and not have to rush anywhere. no alarms. no meetings. just… us.”
y/n was quiet for a beat, her expression softening. “that sounds kind of perfect.”
“yeah,” he murmured, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. “it does.”
she let out a small breath, her fingers curling gently into the fabric of his shirt. “but for now, i do have alarms. and meetings. and actual responsibilities.”
“ugh, responsibilities,” he groaned dramatically. “who invented those? we should sue.”
she laughed quietly, the sound muffled against him. “matt?”
“yeah?”
“i’m serious. i have to get up.”
he tilted his head back with a sigh, staring at the ceiling like it had personally betrayed him. “fine. but at least let me get the door for you.”
“the door?” she echoed, confused.
“yep,” he said, already scooting down and crawling toward the foot of the bed, dragging the blanket halfway with him like a child refusing to share. “you’re clearly far too important to open your own bedroom door. let me do the honors.”
“matt, it’s not—” she stopped when he stumbled dramatically off the bed, tripping on the blanket and nearly faceplanting into the rug. “oh my god.”
“shhh,” he said, standing up with fake composure and brushing invisible dust from his sleep shirt. “you saw nothing. i’m still cool.”
“very cool,” she said, rolling her eyes affectionately as she sat up. “now move. i need to actually start my day.”
“fine,” he said, padding toward the door with exaggerated reluctance. “but don’t blame me when you miss your meeting because your boyfriend’s too charming to resist.”
“i’ll be sure to mention that in my apology email,” she replied, grabbing her robe off the back of the chair.
“cc me. i want credit.”
she walked past him, pressing a quick kiss to his cheek on her way out. “credit for delaying me, sure.”
as she disappeared down the hallway, matt stood in the doorway for a moment, watching her with the dopiest smile on his face. he scratched the back of his head, then turned back to the bed, flopping face-first into the pillows with a groan.
“five minutes turned into twenty again,” he mumbled into the sheets. “worth it.”

A DAY TO FORGET – CHRIS STURNIOLO
Tumblr media
pairing: chris sturniolo x fem!reader synopsis: based off chris saying he can’t go to bed angry from an argument! warnings: lowercase intended, use of y/n, mentions of an argument, angst (resolved)
Tumblr media
a thick tension hung in the air—dense and unmoving, like fog that refused to lift. it had settled between them hours ago, creeping into every corner of the apartment, wrapping around their silence like a shroud. neither of them had spoken since the argument. neither of them wanted to be the first to break.
it had started off so simple—harmless, even. she’d only asked chris to help run a bath while she unpacked the groceries. it wasn’t a demand, just a quiet request after a long, draining day. but chris, already on edge from a frustrating shoot and a full afternoon of sniping with his brothers, didn’t take it well. he snapped—words sharper than he intended, voice louder than it needed to be. he was angry. tired. misunderstood. and instead of unpacking that, he let it spill, let it leak out in ways he didn’t mean—let it land on her.
she hadn’t deserved it.
now they were holed up in their own corners of the apartment, divided not just by walls, but by the weight of everything left unsaid. y/n had disappeared into the bedroom almost as soon as they’d walked through the door, too worn down to argue and too hurt to sit near him like nothing happened. chris had planted himself on the couch, back rigid, expression blank, a muted tv flickering in front of him, casting cold shadows across the room. he wasn’t watching it. he wasn’t even really seeing anything. his mind had been stuck in rewind for hours, looping the fight on repeat.
the clock had long passed eleven-thirty. the house was quiet—eerily so. even the occasional creak of the floorboards or the hum of the fridge felt louder in the stillness, like the house itself was holding its breath. it was nearing midnight, and though their bodies were exhausted, their minds stayed stubborn. still no movement. still no words.
y/n sighed, the sound barely louder than the fan in the corner. she’d been lying in bed, phone in hand, scrolling mindlessly—eyes glossing over photos, captions, videos. none of it stuck. none of it mattered. eventually, she set it aside, the soft thud of it hitting the nightstand sounding final, like a period on the end of a sentence neither of them wanted to finish. she pulled herself out of bed slowly, dragging her feet toward the bathroom to start her routine. brush teeth. wash face. hair up. everything felt mechanical. empty.
chris heard her through the walls—he always did. every soft splash of water, the gentle clink of bottles closing, the sound of her slippers on the tile. he knew her rhythm by heart. and every sound was another reminder: she was just a few feet away, but she felt miles from him tonight.
still, he didn’t move.
his pride rooted him in place, even as guilt curled in his chest like smoke. thick and choking.
when she returned, y/n crawled into bed wordlessly. the sheets felt cold, untouched on his side. the emptiness beside her was glaring. even though she tried to relax, her body wouldn’t settle. sleep wouldn’t come. she curled in on herself, facing the wall, the silence pressing in like a second skin. she hated falling asleep without him—hated the quiet where his warmth used to be, the missing weight of his arm pulling her close, the soft rise and fall of his breathing beside her. she missed it already. but tonight, she had no choice but to go without.
until—finally—chris gave in.
the silence was too heavy now. the regret too loud. he couldn’t take it anymore.
he stood slowly, limbs stiff, and padded toward their bedroom. the hallway light spilled ahead of him, soft and golden. he paused at the doorway, hand resting on the frame, heart beating harder than it should’ve been for something so simple. he wasn’t sure what kind of reception he’d get—if she’d be too hurt, too tired, too far gone. but he had to try.
he stepped inside.
the room was dark, save for the gentle glow spilling from the bathroom. y/n laid curled on her side, tucked into herself, her breathing slow and even. asleep—or almost there.
he crossed the room quietly, sinking to his knees beside the bed.
“baby?” he whispered, his voice barely above a breath as he reached out, fingers brushing her arm. “baby, wake up... please.”
he didn’t shake her—just a soft nudge. just enough to stir her. he hated doing it. hated pulling her out of the little rest she was finally getting. but he hated the thought of going to bed angry even more. it made his skin itch. his chest ache. what if something happened overnight? what if she woke up still hurt—or didn’t wake up at all? he couldn’t stand the idea of their last words being the ones he’d said in anger.
y/n stirred, blinking slowly, her voice thick with sleep. “chris?”
“baby…” he breathed again, climbing into bed and sliding close, pulling her into his arms with a kind of caution, like he didn’t know if she’d let him. “can we talk? about earlier…”
she nestled her face against his hoodie, her eyes already starting to close again. “can we leave it until tomorrow?” she murmured. her tone wasn’t cold. just tired. but she didn’t pull away.
chris held her tighter. “no, baby. you know how i get. i can’t go to sleep like this… not with you.”
he exhaled shakily, letting the words come now. “i’m so, so sorry. today was... hell. nick and matt wouldn’t stop arguing, i got blamed for something stupid during my meeting... it just built up, and then you asked for something so simple, and i snapped. i took it out on you. and that’s not okay. you didn’t do anything wrong. not one thing. and i just... exploded. i hate that i did that.”
y/n opened her eyes, meeting his gaze in the dim light. her expression was soft now, the raw edge of the fight dulled into something gentler. “it’s okay, chris... it wasn’t all on you. i shouldn’t have pushed. i should’ve noticed you needed space.”
he shook his head, immediate. “no. you were just trying to help. i shut down. i got defensive. it was a dumb fight. stupid. i hate that i made you feel like i was mad at you.”
her fingers reached up, brushing the line of his jaw. “it’s okay,” she whispered again. “really. i’m not upset anymore.”
he leaned in, kissing her temple softly, letting his lips linger there like an apology. “i love you,” he murmured. “so, so much.”
“i love you too, chris,” she whispered back, her body finally starting to relax in his arms.
he tucked her in closer, their legs tangling beneath the blankets. the distance between them finally closed.
“we’re good?” he asked, just to be sure.
she gave a quiet laugh, warm and sleepy. “we’re good.”
“good,” he breathed, eyes fluttering shut as he pressed one last kiss to her shoulder. “i don’t ever want to fight with you again.”
and for a moment, there was peace. real peace. the kind that settles into your bones and lets you breathe easier. the kind that only comes after forgiveness. after choosing to stay.
but then—y/n shifted, lifting her head slightly, her voice soft.
“wait…”
“hm?” chris mumbled, already half-asleep, his arms still wrapped around her.
“chris… did you brush your teeth before bed?”
a pause. a sheepish smile.
“…oops.”
y/n pulled back just enough to squint at him in the dark. “you mean to tell me you came in here with apology breath?”
chris groaned, burying his face in her neck. “don’t call it that.”
she laughed—quiet, breathy, but real. “babe, that’s foul.”
“i was emotionally vulnerable. you can’t roast me right now.”
“i can and i will. go brush your teeth, nasty.”
“noooo,” he whined, clinging to her like a koala. “i just got comfy. and you’re warm. and you smell like that face wash i like. please let me stay.”
“you can stay after you stop breathing hot regret breath all over me.”
he pulled back with a dramatic sigh, eyes narrowed playfully. “this is emotional warfare.”
“this is basic hygiene.”
he kissed her cheek anyway, grinning. “fine. but if i die of cold floor tile exposure, i hope you cry at my funeral.”
“i’ll cry,” she murmured, already smiling as she watched him shuffle dramatically out of the room. “but only because i won’t have anyone to argue with about flossing.”
“you’re a monster,” he called from the bathroom, his voice muffled by the sound of running water.
“and you love me.”
he poked his head back around the corner a minute later, a fresh grin on his face. “so much it’s disgusting.”
“better?”
“minty fresh and full of remorse.”
he climbed back into bed, and this time when he pulled her into his arms, she curled into him without hesitation.
“see?” she mumbled against his chest. “wasn’t so hard.”
“yeah, yeah,” he whispered, kissing the top of her head. “don’t push it.”
“no promises.”
they settled into each other again, limbs tangled, heartbeats syncing slowly. this time, the quiet felt softer. easier.
safe.
and sleep came gently.

MY RED GAP HOODIE – MATT STURNIOLO
Tumblr media
pairing: matt sturniolo x fem!reader synopsis: y/n is cold and puts on matt’s hoodie warnings: lowercase intended, use of y/n, fluff!!
Tumblr media
“who set this place to sixty degrees?” y/n muttered, her voice edged with disbelief as she stood shivering in front of the thermostat. her teeth chattered as she rubbed her hands briskly up and down her arms, trying to generate even a little warmth. the cold air clung to her like a second skin, and the thermostat’s screen glared back at her like a smug little machine that didn’t care it was turning the house into the arctic tundra.
she gave it a glare worthy of a movie villain, then reached out with a dramatic twist of the knob, watching the numbers slowly climb until they landed on a much more reasonable seventy-two degrees. “that’s better,” she whispered under her breath, already picturing the slow, glorious return of warmth to the frozen house.
“i need to get a jacket or something before i turn into an actual icicle,” she mumbled to no one in particular, her bare feet padding against the chilly floor as she made her way down the hallway. it felt like she was walking through a refrigerator, each step sending goosebumps up her legs. by the time she reached matt’s room, she was regretting not grabbing a blanket first.
she slid the closet door open with a soft creak and scanned the row of clothes inside until her eyes landed on a familiar sight: matt’s red gap zip-up hoodie. it hung lazily from a hanger, looking as soft and inviting as ever. it was the one he always wore when they curled up together on the couch, or when they had slow sunday mornings with coffee and cartoons. something about it always felt safe.
without thinking twice, she pulled it off the hanger and shrugged it over her shoulders, tugging the zipper all the way up to her chin. it was way too big—baggy sleeves, wide shoulders—but it enveloped her perfectly. it smelled like him too, a mix of clean laundry, cedarwood cologne, and something indescribably matt. she stood there for a second, wrapped in warmth and a little bit of comfort, before sighing contentedly and making her way back to the living room.
“much better,” she murmured to herself, her voice barely above a whisper, a small smile tugging at her lips as she nestled back into the couch.
she curled up in the corner of the sofa, tucking her legs beneath her and pulling the hoodie sleeves down over her hands. she grabbed the remote and flicked on the tv, instantly greeted by the upbeat opening of modern family. it was her go-to comfort show, something familiar and light and easy to get lost in. she let out a soft exhale, the kind that comes when you finally let yourself relax, the tension melting away bit by bit.
even though the thermostat was doing its job now, a faint chill still lingered in her bones, so she snuggled deeper into the hoodie, pulling the hood up and letting it bunch around her ears. it was warm now, but it wasn’t just the heater or the thick fabric—it was his hoodie, and something about wearing it made her feel instantly better, like he was with her even when he wasn’t.
just as she was sinking into that sweet, drowsy kind of comfort, the front door opened with a soft creak, followed by the thud of boots and the sound of laughter trailing in behind.
“baby? i’m home!” matt’s voice rang through the house, bright and full of energy, slightly breathless from the cold.
she didn’t even turn her head. “in the living room!” she called out, eyes still on the tv as she tucked her chin into the collar of the hoodie.
matt’s footsteps approached, followed by the distant sounds of his brothers shuffling to their respective rooms. bags dropped, doors closed, and soon it was just the two of them in the cozy living room.
“hey babe, what are you watching?” matt asked casually, plopping down next to her on the couch. his arm automatically settled behind her, fingertips brushing lightly against her shoulder. he glanced at the screen, already recognizing the show, but it wasn’t until a few seconds later that his eyes dropped to what she was wearing.
he blinked once. then again.
“wait… is that my hoodie?” he asked, a slow grin spreading across his face.
y/n didn’t even look at him. “maybe,” she said, her voice teasing.
“babe…” matt started, the grin turning into something softer. “you look so cute!”
before she could react, he’d pulled her into his arms, squeezing her like a human teddy bear. his grip was warm and tight, and he swayed them gently from side to side, like he physically couldn’t contain how much he adored her.
“matt— a little less on the grip, please!” y/n squeaked, her voice muffled against his chest as she tried to wiggle free without laughing.
“oops, sorry,” matt said with zero actual apology in his tone, loosening his arms but not letting go. “i can’t help it, you’re just so cute!” he pulled back just enough to cup her face in his hands, tilting it up so he could see her better.
she raised a brow, somewhere between amused and mildly embarrassed. “matt…”
but he was on a roll now, completely ignoring her exasperated tone. “babyyy, just look at you! you’re literally drowning in my hoodie!” he whined, thumbs brushing her cheeks as if he could squish more cuteness out of her.
“it’s like three sizes too big and you somehow make it look like designer fashion. how do you do that?” he added dramatically, shaking his head like he was genuinely baffled.
y/n rolled her eyes, but she couldn’t help the smile tugging at her lips. “you’re so dramatic.”
“only for you,” he grinned, pressing a light kiss to the tip of her nose before pulling her back into his arms. “seriously, you in my clothes? new favorite thing. top-tier. better than pizza. better than sleep.”
“that’s saying a lot,” she laughed, finally tearing her gaze from the tv to look at him. “you love sleep.”
“and yet here we are,” he said, eyes twinkling. “you’ve officially taken the top spot.”
she snorted, playfully bumping his shoulder. “well, good thing i plan on stealing more. this hoodie’s just the beginning.”
he gasped, dramatically clutching his chest. “by the end of the week, i’ll have nothing left.”
“guess you’ll just have to come steal them back,” she said, her voice soft as she leaned into him again.
“deal,” he whispered, pressing a kiss into her hair as the two of them melted back into the couch, tangled in borrowed warmth, the familiar noise of modern family in the background, and the kind of quiet, easy comfort that only comes from being with your favorite person in the world.

BABY FEVER – MATT STURNIOLO
Tumblr media
pairing: matt sturniolo x fem!reader synopsis: babysitting your three year old cousin with your boyfriend is not for the weak warnings: lowercase intended, use of y/n, mentions of having a child ???, fluff!!
Tumblr media
“auntie y/n!” ruby’s voice rang out across the yard, the little girl’s excitement practically vibrating through the air as she came running toward y/n. her tiny feet barely kept up with her eagerness, and she almost tripped over them in her rush. but before y/n could even fully step inside, ruby was already in her arms, wrapping herself around y/n’s legs in a tight, exuberant hug.
“well, hey there, rubs!” y/n laughed, grinning as she bent down to scoop ruby up into her arms, easily lifting the toddler into the air. “how’s my favorite niece doing today?” she asked, her voice soft with affection.
ruby beamed up at her aunt, holding y/n’s face in her small hands, her fingers gently pressing into y/n’s cheeks as she looked up, her eyes wide and sparkling with pride. “mommy let me have stra-bees today!” she said, her little mouth stretching into a huge, toothy grin.
“oh really? strawberries, huh? that sounds yummy!” y/n replied with a teasing smile, her heart warming at ruby’s excitement.
“i got lots and lots of stra-bees!” ruby said, her words tumbling out in a rush as her enthusiasm made her talk faster than usual. but her smile said it all, clear and bright.
“lucky you,” y/n said, brushing a lock of ruby’s hair from her forehead, her fingers lingering on the toddler’s soft skin. “you’re going to be all bouncy with all that sugar!” she teased, her eyes dancing with amusement.
ruby nodded vigorously, her eyes wide with the thrill of her treat. “yeah! i got so many, auntie!” she exclaimed, her little hands still holding onto y/n’s face as if to make sure she heard every word.
just as y/n was about to respond, a voice from behind them broke in, teasing but full of warmth. “hey! there’s no hello for me?” matt’s voice rang out, and y/n turned, laughing as she saw him standing there with his arms crossed in playful mock offense.
ruby’s face immediately lit up at the sound of his voice. she kicked her legs in the air, her little hands reaching for y/n’s shirt as if she couldn’t contain her joy any longer.
“uncle matt!” she squealed, her face lighting up like the sun. she wiggled in y/n’s arms, signaling that she was ready to be handed over to him.
y/n chuckled, lowering ruby gently to the floor. the moment her feet touched the ground, the toddler took off running toward matt, her small feet barely touching the ground as she practically flew toward him.
“hey, rubs,” matt greeted her with a grin, crouching down to scoop her up into his arms. ruby’s delighted giggles filled the room as she clung to him, her tiny hands grabbing at his shoulders with all the energy she could muster.
y/n smiled at the sight of them, her heart swelling with affection. there was something so simple and pure about the way they interacted, so effortless and full of love. watching them together made y/n's heart ache in the best way, and she couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of contentment.
just then, y/n turned to her sister-in-law, who was hurriedly gathering her things as she prepared to head out. “thank you so much for agreeing to look after her,” y/n said with a sincere smile. “i’m really sorry it’s so last minute—my work called me in unexpectedly and our babysitter was already busy and—”
y/n’s sister-in-law cut her off with a gentle smile and a wave of her hand. “it’s okay, really. i understand. thank you again, both of you. i just have to rush out now, but seriously, i really appreciate it.”
y/n smiled and gently placed her hand over her sister-in-law’s, reassuring her. “hey, it’s no problem. sometimes life just throws things at us, but matt and i are always happy to look after our favorite niece. you don’t need to apologize.”
her sister-in-law sighed in relief, visibly relaxing now that her mind was at ease. “thank you again, from the bottom of my heart. and ruby…” she turned to her daughter with a smile, crouching to her level. “you remember what i said, right? behave yourself, okay? don’t make things too hard on auntie y/n and uncle matt.”
“yes, mommy! see you later!” ruby chirped happily, her voice a little squeakier with excitement. she waved enthusiastically as her mother made her way out the door, her small body practically jumping with joy.
y/n crouched down to ruby’s level, giving her a gentle smile as she brushed a stray strand of hair behind the toddler’s ear. “alright, sweetheart…” y/n began, her voice soft and coaxing. “how about we go to the park now? sound good?”
“yes!!” ruby’s face lit up like a Christmas tree at the suggestion, and before y/n could say another word, she grabbed her aunt’s hand, tugging her toward the door with all the energy she had.
“hey, hey, rubs, slow down a little, okay?” matt called from behind them, his voice warm with amusement. “we’re not in a hurry. no need to rush.”
ruby paused for a split second, glancing up at matt with a sudden serious expression. then, without missing a beat, she broke into a giggle, her tiny shoulders shaking with laughter. “okay, uncle matt!” she said in her sing-song voice, still holding tightly to y/n’s hand as they made their way toward the door.
“okay, go put on your shoes, and let’s get going!” y/n called to ruby, who immediately dashed over to her shoe rack. she excitedly picked out her favorite pair of pink light-up sneakers, practically bouncing as she put them on.
“let’s go, auntie!” ruby exclaimed, her words tumbling out in her usual burst of excitement. she was already back at y/n’s side, her hand once again grabbing y/n’s as she tugged her toward the door. matt followed closely behind, his steps light and easy as he kept pace with the two girls.
Tumblr media
once they arrived at the park, ruby didn’t waste a single second. she immediately let go of y/n’s hand and ran straight for the swing set, her little legs carrying her as fast as they could go. “uncle matt! push me, please!” she called back over her shoulder, her eyes wide with anticipation.
“alright, rubs, i’ve got you,” matt said with a chuckle, walking over to the swings with a grin. he was already getting ready to push her when y/n stepped back, watching from the sidelines, content to simply enjoy the moment.
y/n leaned against a nearby bench, her heart swelling with warmth as she watched matt gently push ruby on the swing. ruby’s delighted giggles filled the air, her hands gripping the chains as she soared higher into the sky. matt’s face was lit up with joy as he pushed her, and for a brief moment, y/n’s heart ached in the best way. she had always dreamed of being a mom, and watching matt with ruby was a constant reminder of how natural and beautiful he was with kids. sometimes, it made her wonder what it would be like to have a daughter of their own.
“auntie y/n!” ruby’s voice snapped y/n out of her thoughts, and she looked up to see the little girl waving at her from the swing. “come here, auntie y/n!”
y/n smiled warmly and walked over, her eyes twinkling with curiosity. “yes, sweetie?”
“get on the swing too!” ruby said excitedly, pointing to the empty swing next to hers. “uncle matt will push both of us!”
y/n chuckled at ruby’s enthusiasm and nodded. “alright, alright, i’ll join you.” she sat down on the swing next to ruby, and as soon as she did, she felt matt give her a push. but it wasn’t just any push—it was a little too much.
“matt–!” y/n yelped, her voice a mixture of surprise and mock indignation. “too high!”
matt laughed along with ruby, clearly enjoying her reaction. ruby giggled uncontrollably, her small hands gripping the swing’s chains as she kicked her feet in the air.
“auntie y/n, you’re so funny!” ruby laughed, her bright eyes sparkling with amusement. “okay, uncle matt, i want off now! let’s go to the next thing!” she said, pointing excitedly to the rest of the playground.
“alright, rubs,” matt said, laughing as he helped y/n down. the trio made their way toward the slides, with ruby already running ahead, eager to explore the next adventure.
Tumblr media
when they returned home later that afternoon, ruby was practically bursting with energy, eager to tell her mom about everything. “mommy!” she shouted as she burst through the door, still riding high on the excitement of the day. “mommy, i had so much fun!”
y/n’s sister-in-law, who had been waiting by the door, crouched down to scoop her daughter up into her arms. “hey, sweetie. how was your day with auntie y/n and uncle matt?” she asked, her smile warm as she hugged ruby tight.
“was so fun! we went to the park, and uncle matt pushed me on the swings, and auntie y/n too!” ruby said excitedly, her words coming out in a happy rush.
“oh really now? sounds like you had a blast. now, how
about you take off your shoes and wash your hands, okay? mommy’s going to chat with auntie y/n and uncle matt for a minute,” her mom suggested, giving ruby a gentle kiss on the cheek before letting her go.
ruby nodded eagerly and scampered off to do as instructed, her little feet pattering across the floor as she removed her sneakers and headed toward the bathroom.
once ruby was out of earshot, y/n’s sister-in-law turned to the couple with a grateful smile. “thank you so much for looking after her again,” she said, her voice sincere. “i really appreciate it.”
y/n waved it off with a smile. “hey, you don’t have to thank us all the time. we’re family. we’d be happy to look after her any time,” she reassured her, her voice warm and comforting.
her sister-in-law smiled back, her eyes filled with gratitude. “thank you,” she repeated, a soft laugh escaping her as she made her way toward the door. “i’ll see you both soon.”
“take care!” y/n and matt called in unison, waving her goodbye. as the door clicked shut, the two of them shared a quiet smile, content with the simple joys of the day.
after a peaceful moment, they both climbed into matt’s van, letting out a simultaneous sigh as they settled into the comfortable silence. the weight of the afternoon's activities had finally caught up with them, and the car felt cozy and familiar.
“do you have it too?” y/n asked, her voice soft as she turned to glance at matt. there was a slight catch in her breath, a tender look in her eyes as she searched his face for an answer.
“baby fever?” matt said with a knowing smile, his eyes softening as he looked at her. “yeah, i’ve got it. bad.”
y/n sighed, her shoulders slumping as she stared out the window. her fingers absentmindedly played with the hem of her shirt, a little frown tugging at her lips. “we’re too young though. i know we are... but she’s just so cute.”
matt chuckled softly, his gaze warm as he met her eyes. “i know, baby. i want one too. believe me. but we should give it a few more years. we’re not exactly in the right place yet.”
“but matttt,” she whined, her voice taking on a playful tone. “she’s so tiny and perfect. i just wanna take her home and keep her forever.”
matt smiled at her, his thumb gently brushing over her hand as he reached out to take it. “i know, babe. i get it. i really do. but we’ve got time. a lot of time. no need to rush into it. we’ll get there, i promise. just a few more years, okay?”
y/n let out another sigh, this one a little heavier, but she nodded, knowing deep down that he was right. “just a few more years, huh?” she repeated quietly, as though trying to convince herself.
“yeah, just a few,” matt confirmed softly, his voice soothing as he leaned over to give her a quick kiss on the forehead. his lips lingered there for a moment, his eyes closing in contentment. “we’ll be great when the time comes, i know it.”
y/n rested her head against the seat, closing her eyes for a moment. the idea of waiting was hard, but she trusted matt. they had their whole future ahead of them. “okay,” she whispered, finally relaxing into the comfort of the moment. “just a few more years.”

LOVE YOU TOO – CHRIS STURNIOLO
Tumblr media
pairing: chris sturniolo x reader synopsis: in which the reader pranks chris by not saying “i love you” back warnings: lowercase intended, no mentions of y/n, fluff!!
Tumblr media
chris had a knack for getting under her skin—every other day, without fail. innocently, of course. sometimes it was something simple, like a crumpled paper ball lobbed in her direction when she wasn’t paying attention, or a quick splash of water from his hands after washing them. nothing that would make her seriously mad, but enough to get on her nerves. and every time, she’d swear she’d get him back, that this time, she’d win.
the thing was, chris was unpredictable. he could read her too well. he could tell when she was about to pull something, anticipate her every move. it was like he was always one step ahead, like he had some sort of sixth sense for her plans. every time she tried, he’d stop it before it even started—like catching her in the act but without her even having a chance to act. it frustrated her to no end, the way he always managed to see right through her.
whenever it happened, she’d slump into a pout, a silent surrender to his constant edge. and he'd just look at her, that smirk of his stretching across his face, like he’d already won the game, without needing to say a word. it always made her want to try harder. next time, she promised herself. next time, she’d win.
tonight was different, though. as she lay on the couch, aimlessly scrolling through tiktok, her thoughts wandered. it was one of those nights where nothing could hold her attention, but she kept swiping anyway, letting her thumb flick over the endless stream of “couple-tok” videos. most of them were the same—couples pulling harmless pranks on each other, calling each other "husband" or "wife" and watching their confused reactions. she chuckled at a few, wondering what chris would do if she tried something like that. would he play along, or would he give her that look—the one that said really?
then, she stumbled on something that made her pause. a couple where the girl didn’t say "i love you" back when her boyfriend said it. his face dropped, and she could practically feel his hurt through the screen. it wasn’t dramatic, just… quiet disappointment. and that’s when it hit her.
if there was one thing she knew for sure about chris, it was that he hated uncertainty. not returning his affection? that would get to him. no question. he wore his feelings openly, and the thought of her not reciprocating them would probably mess with his head for days. she knew she could get under his skin like that.
is it too much? she thought for a moment. but then the little voice in her head reminded her of all the times he’d pulled something on her—catching her off guard, making her pout when she was supposed to win. this is just payback, she reasoned. just a little revenge.
with a self-satisfied smirk, she powered off her phone and got up, walking toward their shared room. there was no turning back now.
“baby?” she heard chris call from inside. “yeah?” she yelled back, not moving from her spot on the couch. “can you please, pleaseee get me a pepsi from the fridge?” he asked, his voice exaggerated for effect.
she smiled to herself, already feeling the stir of mischief. she sighed dramatically, got up, and padded toward the kitchen, her feet warm against the cool floor. opening the fridge, she pulled out a cold can of pepsi, feeling the chill bite into her fingers as she cracked it open.
“here you go,” she said, stepping into the room.
chris was sitting at his desk, black headphones over his ears, eyes locked on his computer screen. without looking up, he took the can from her, cracking it open with that satisfying hiss.
“thanks, baby. i love you,” he muttered, settling back into his chair, already shifting his attention back to his game.
“mhm, of course,” she replied, already turning to leave. her footsteps were light, the door just in reach when she heard him pull off his headphones.
“babe?” he said, his voice suddenly more serious.
she stopped mid-step, glancing back at him, raising an eyebrow. “yeah?”
“i love you,” he said, stretching the words out slowly, like he needed to make sure she heard it.
she couldn’t help the tiny smile tugging at the corner of her lips, but she kept her face neutral. “mhm, i’ll be up in a little,” she said, already making her way toward the door again.
but he wasn’t letting it go. his expression shifted, brows furrowing in confusion, his eyes narrowing slightly like he was trying to figure something out.
“babe.”
she bit back a laugh, turning slowly, giving him an innocent look. “yeah?”
“i love you,” he repeated, softer this time, more serious, like the words meant something more than usual.
she held back the grin that was threatening to break through, her eyes softening for just a second. “mhm, i know,” she said, feeling the smirk finally slip through.
chris pouted dramatically, standing up from his chair, crossing his arms. “are you mad at me? did i do something wrong?” he asked, his voice already shifting into that playful whine she knew so well. he walked up to her, taking her hands in his and looking into her eyes like she held the answers.
“no, i’m not mad,” she said, trying her best to look unaffected, though she couldn’t stop the slight shrug.
“then why aren’t you saying it back?” he whined, a little more desperate this time, the playful tone still lingering but now mixed with mock frustration. “whatever i did wrong, i’m sorry, okay?”
“chris… are you okay?” she asked, amusement dancing in her voice, though she tried to keep it in check.
“no!” he huffed, still holding her hands, swinging them back and forth like a child. “you won’t say it back!”
she raised an eyebrow, lips twitching with the effort to hold her composure. “say what?” she asked, feigning innocence, though she already knew.
“‘i love you’!” he whined again, voice rising in pitch as he leaned in closer, clearly playing up the drama.
she couldn’t hold it in anymore—she laughed, letting go of his hands to cover her mouth, enjoying the sweet satisfaction of the prank.
“what? what’s so funny?” he asked, genuinely confused, his brows furrowing.
“i got you!” she grinned, her eyes lighting up. “you keep pranking me, so i finally found a way to get you back!”
his face flickered with recognition, the smallest smile trying to break through his mock indignation. “oh.” then, with a stomp of his foot and an exaggerated sigh, he crossed his arms tightly. “now i’m mad at you.”
“oh come on, chris,” she said, trying (and failing) to turn him around by tugging gently on his arm.
“say you love me, and i’ll turn around,” he mumbled, his back still to her, though she could hear the softness creeping into his voice.
she leaned in, whispering near his ear with a teasing grin, “i love youuu!”
he turned around instantly, pulling her into a tight hug, his lips pressing a quick kiss to her cheek. “i love you too,” he said, though his voice held that slight warning she knew so well, a playful scolding. “don’t ever pull something like that again.”
she laughed, shaking her head as she wrapped her arms around him. “okay, okay, i won’t! but i got you good, didn’t i?”
he mumbled under his breath, his faint grin still tugging at his mouth. “yeah, yeah, whatever.”
she pulled back slightly, giving him a teasing look. “admit it, you love me more now that you’ve been pranked.”
he rolled his eyes, but he couldn’t hide the smile spreading across his face. “you’re impossible.”
“and you love me for it,” she said with a wink, her heart light, enjoying the warmth of their little game.
