Life of A Samurai

The Samurais were the Japanese warriors from the royal elite class who were the rulers too. They would wear several swords to depict their vigour and pride. They were always battle ready people. The era of Japanese Samurai rose from middle ages and continued till modern era. 

There was a deep sense of connection between a Samurai and his sword. That is why they used to carefully pick up their swords. One such popularly known prized possession of the Japanese Samurai was the Katana swords. 

The Katanas were long swords that had slightly curved blade with a deep single edge.  Often the Samurais would pair up the long Katanas with a shorter version of blade known as Wazikashi. While the main weapon to fight was their Katanas only, the wazikashi would serve as the back-up weapon. The back-up weapon was often used to either perform the ritual suicide or beheading the enemy during or after the fight. 

What makes the Katanas so significant for Japanese Samurai?

The significance of a sword lies in the quality of the material used to make and the mastery of the sword-smith who forges out its metal and design. The sword-smiths were paid in great deal in terms of not only money but respect too in the society for they constructed weapons to defend their warriors from the attacks of the enemies. 

The mastery of the sword-smith has been sung in various praises in the Japanese mythology. 

Katanas were forged out from tough high carbon and low carbon steel. The finest of craftsmen would forge out the design of every single Katana paying great deal of attention to every single detail.
