The Not-So Windy City 2024

A trip I wasn't sure was going to happen. Uncertainty shook through my core for weeks at a time. Scared to confront you about the nature of what we had. Our first time away from home together, on the heart of Lake Michigan.

Love was nothing but, in the air, the hardest thing to do was act like I didn't care. Everywhere I look, I see you, I see the beauty you provide in this world and the beauty you brought specifically into my life. Part of me sees a version of you in everyone I so hopelessly try talking to you, hoping one day I'll wake up and I'll see you right by my side. (cw: sexual assault) the pedophile -as it is understood outside of academic circles- is a mythical creature. the idea that a complete stranger who kidnaps and sexually assaults kids is their biggest threat is absolutely insane; not one case of CSA (child sexual assault) in a hundred looks like that. CSA is committed almost uniformly by adults in a preestablished position of authority (such as family, family friends, clergy, or teachers) and in a way that a victim who doesn't know what sexual assault looks like will be left unsure what happened to them. without knowing concretely how sex and sexuality works, would you be able to tell the difference between molestation and the various other forms of unwanted physical touch and abuse kids are regularly subjected to? would it even seem that different? but parenthood and the submission of youth to adults as institutions are threatened by the reality of CSA. adults need to justify their ownership of children through an imagined outside threat constantly held at bay through their diligence. the truth - that putting yourself in such a position of authority over children directly enables abuse (including sexual abuse) - is thrown aside.

i see nobody talking about this here but apparently prageru released a program about slavery and colonialism and I kid you not, the line "it's better to be taken as a slave than killed" is said.

i think we all know it's extremely dangerous to dilute the severity and generational effects slavery had on black Americans as we are STILL impacted by it and its components like Jim Crow and segregation.
