Something I dislike about this website is that no one seems to know the difference between murder and homicide. Murder has to be against the law. Killing someone in self defence is not against the law (in most countries). “Murder isn’t as bad a crime as rape because sometimes people murder in self defence!” If it is self defence then it isn’t murder. Killing a combatant in a war also is not murder. Yes, even if that combatant was drafted or is a child soldier or is just sleeping in a military base unarmed. Even if the killed soldier is on the “good side”.

Now, there is a discussion to be had when legal definition and ethics don’t seem to align, for instance American castle doctrine or the incarceration of women who kill their/their children’s abusers. However, you should still know what murder isn’t before you enter such a discussion.
