The dark-eyed lady’s collar
(part of a larger series of magical sextoys compendium I’m writing)
On our expedition to find the artifact supposedly hidden near the mountains of Nor, something peculiar happened.
We ran into a hooded figure, a lady with dark eyes, who eyed up one of our female research crew members, before approaching her and handing her a strange looking collar.
The collar looked similar to that you’d use on a dog, but with strange symbols on them that we speculate are perhaps wiccan runes.
That was already quite peculiar, but what seemed more peculiar to the rest of the crew was our crew member’s sudden fascination with it. Before we knew it, she’d put it on, and something changed in her, something.. sinister happened.
She started looking at everyone in the crew weirdly, with seemingly lustful eyes, and started biting her lips heavily. One of our fellow researchers, David, went to check up on her because he was, like most of us, worried. This did not end well for him.
As soon as he approached her, she jumped on top of him and threw him to the floor with force, hurting his head in the process. She ripped off his clothes and started to perform oral sex on him, and as it turns out David had feelings for the female researcher affected by this collar (name withheld for privacy reasons) and as such he showed little resistance to her advances.
David asked for me to mention him by name in case other strange occurrences happen, so it would be easier for people to know what happened, in case he gets sick or dies. (Can’t believe he made me write this in my own journal..)
Continuing on, after their short performance, the unnamed researcher proceeded to “mount” David, and was seemingly insatiable. None of us knew exactly what to do, and David seemed to enjoy it, so we looked the other way for a while.
After a while of us looking the other way and trying to act like there wasn’t some very explicit sex going on, we heard David say something that struck us as odd. He suddenly said “Wait, what happened to your eyes?” And as such, we felt compelled to look. Upon looking at the unnamed researcher, we noticed her skin had turned pale, she had weird markings all over her body, and the weirdest part yet, she had a tail.
Her tail appears to be a solid black, feels somewhat like when you hold a snake, and the tip of it is shaped like the romanticized version of a heart. The markings on her body appear similar to that of the markings on the collar, and her eyes had become dark, with golden yellow irises, much like the hooded lady.
Upon seeing this, we decided that perhaps the best course of action was for the two of them to stop their explicit acts, this was no easy task however. The unnamed researcher seemed possessed, thinking about nothing but “mounting” David and, to quote the female researcher, “Use him as a sextoy.” After a while, and 4 of us trying to pull her off as David started panicking, we managed to stop her, though she very clearly did not want to stop.
After restraining her so poor David wouldn’t worry for his life, she seemed to calm down slightly, and asked us to take off the collar. Upon doing so, she seemed to calm down more, although the effects on her body and her heightened sexdrive stayed (whether this change is permanent, we do not know.)
About 3 hours after this, she had calmed down enough to where she could once again formulate proper sentences. Upon us asking her what had happened, she explained to us what she felt like, here is what she said about how she felt and what she thought:
“I felt compelled to wear the collar, and when I did this sensation slowly built up within me, this.. desire for sex. It feels like you haven’t had sex in years and someone laced your drink with aphrodisiacs.
Sweet satisfaction, coupled with this intense, powerful craving, feeling so very very good wearing it, yet wanting so much more. I simply couldn’t resist these cravings building up inside of me, when David approached me I didn’t even think about what I was doing, I was like an animal working on pure instinct, and the more I did to him, the more I started craving it.
I could feel my body changing, but that just made me want it more, my mind was filled with thoughts about sex, nothing more. No worries about consequence of any sort, just “I want sex I want sex I want sex I want to fuck.”
Even now I’ve calmed down, I can feel this deeply intense craving inside of me, and it’s hard for me to think about anything other than sex, It like this gnawing at the back of my head that’s constantly reminding me that I should fuck again so I can feel good again that just won’t go away no matter what I do.
It’s.. scary, to know that if you guys untied me, I’d probably jump on whoever gets closest to me immediately, but it feels so.. so intensely satisfying. I want more.. I want more.. Damnit.. I can’t.. “
Sadly this is as much as she could tell us before she succumbed to these cravings she mentioned again and started begging for sex.
We have taken the collar from her and will be sending it to the lab back home, with this journal attached to serve as a warning to make sure nobody wears it, since I fear it might have this effect on anyone who wears it, and we will monitor the changes to the researcher from our remote location and fill you in if there are any new developments.
Thank you for your time, please handle this artifact with great care as it seems highly dangerous.

Anne’s plight
POTENTIAL TRIGGER WARNING (physical/sexual abuse) Edit: Reworked chapter 4 a bit
Chapter 1: The beginning
“Turn down that music, Helen!” Anne screams from her room, “At least put on some good music if you’re gonna be this loud!”. Anne sighs, “Are you really going to ignore your big sister?”.
As Anne becomes increasingly frustrated by the loud music, walking towards Helen’s room, she gets stopped by her big brother. “David, what is it? Why the hell are you stopping me, that music is way too loud!” Anne says angrily.
“Our parents are in there..” David says, in a hushed tone. A visible look of shock springs on Anne’s face “Then what the hell are you doing, let’s get in there immediately, we can’t just let this happen to her!” Anne says in a panicked voice.
“What are you, a fool?! If we go in there they’ll just beat us too! All we can do is make sure she’s okay when they’re done with her!” David exclaimed angrily. “I... I understand, I’ll get the first aid kit, you make sure you don’t draw their attention, okay?” Anne says, with a soft tone.
Anne grabs the first aid kit from a kitchen drawer, takes it to her room and sits on her bed, sniffling “Why can’t we do anything.. why are we powerless to stop this? What did Helen do to deserve this?”.
After some time passes, Anne hears the music being lowered, and the sounds of footsteps. After waiting for a minute, she walks towards her little sister’s room and finds David standing there, “Is she okay?” Anne says. “I haven’t checked yet, I was waiting for you.” David says, clearly distraught.
As the two enter Helen’s room, they see Helen laying on the bed motionlessly. They run over to her as fast as they can, “Helen! Are you okay? Helen please!” Anne shouts as she grabs her little sister close. “I.. I’m fine..” Helen says, sounding out of breath and clearly in pain. “We’ll take care of you, okay? Just hang in there, we’re right here!” Anne says, holding her little sister tight.
David, while grabbing the disinfectant and bandages asks Helen, “Did they just beat you?” Helen looks David in the eyes and quickly looks away, saying “Yeah.. that’s all they did..”
David, clearly angry, bandages Helen while Anne holds her, comforting her. “I’ll get them back for this one day..” David says under his breath before leaving the room.
“Hey, Helen, why don’t you come sleep in my bed tonight? Just to be safe..” Anne says, sounding worried. Helen silently nods in agreement. Anne’s face lights up, “We can go watch netflix together and drink some tea, it’ll be great, I promise!” Anne exclaims, reassuringly.
As the day turns to night, Helen and Anne watch some cool superhero movies, drink some of Anne’s favourite dragonberry tea, and eventually doze off while Anne embraces her.
As morning arrives, Anne wakes up to Helen crying in her arms. “Hey what’s wrong sis?” Anne whispers, as she holds Helen tighter. “It.. it hurts..” Helen says, shakily. “What hurts sweetie, tell me.” Anne whispers, clearly worried. “Dad hurt me down there again..” Helen says, sobbing. Anne, having to fight back the sudden rage building up inside of her, comforts Helen, “It’ll be okay sweetie, I promise.. I’m here for you, I won’t let them hurt you anymore, okay?”
As Anne tells her little sister this, the door opens, “Why the hell is Helen in your room?!” The mom and dad shout. Anne jumps out of bed instantly, “Helen, stay behind me okay?”. Helen nods, looking scared. “Oh? sticking up for your little sister now? I take it that means you need to be disciplined too.” “Do with me what you will, but don’t you dare lay a finger on Helen!” Anne shouts angrily, “I told you Helen, I won’t let them hurt you again, trust me.”
“Big words for a little girl” The father exclaims. “Fine, I won’t touch Helen this time, but you better not think I’ll go easy on you, bitch.” Helen starts crying, screaming “Please don’t hurt her, please!” “It’s okay Helen, I promise. Just go to school okay? It’s going to be okay, I’ll be okay” Anne says, comfortingly.
Two hours pass, as Anne leaves her house, shaken and covered in makeup to hide the bruises, headed towards school.
As she arrives in class, her teacher shouts “Anne! Why are you so late?!” “I’m sorry, I overslept” Anne says, panting. “Oversleep like this again and you’ll get detention!” Says the teacher, while Anne sits down in her seat.
“They didn’t hit you again, did they?” Emily says, in a worried voice. “No of course not! I’d tell my bestie if they did, right?” Anne says, lying through her teeth. “So, are we still on for the movies today then? I really want to see that new superhero movie.” Emily asks. “No, sorry. I have to go work today, they called me earlier. We’ll watch it next time.” Anne says. “Aww come on, can’t you ask them to come later?” Emily pleads. “I can’t! Delilah called in sick, so I have to replace her.. you know I can’t just let those kids be neglected Emily” Anne states clearly. “Fineeeeee, but you better change shirts before you do. Don’t want to scare the kids.” Emily says, pointing at Anne’s shirt. Shocked, Anne sees the bloodstain on her shirt. “I can explain! Ugh.. I’ll just wear my sports shirt I guess.” she says, disheartened.
As school ends, Anne walks towards her workplace slowly, clearly still in pain. On her way to work, she goes to Helen’s school to check up on her, looking through the window and seeing Helen hard at work after school is over. “She always was an over-achiever..” Anne smiles, before deciding to head to work. “Annieeeeee!” Several kids shout, as she walks up to them, “Welcome back!”. “Thanks sweeties” Anne says, as she hugs a few and pats the rest, “Miss me?”. “Of course we did miss Anne! You’re our favourite!” One of the kids says, with a bright smile on her face.
As Anne enters the orphanage, she goes to the bathroom immediately. “Fuck, they really got me good this time..” Anne mutters to herself, breathing shakily. She lifts up her shirt, revealing bloodied bandages wrapped around her stomach, “At least it hasn’t leaked onto my shirt again.. I think it’s mostly stopped bleeding, too.” She mutters to herself, before pulling her shirt back down and leaving the bathroom to go play with the children.
“Anne, when is Helen coming over to play again?” One of the children asks. “Oh I’ll ask her when I come home okay? I’m sure she’ll come play with us again soon, she’s just been sick lately.” Anne says reassuringly, patting the curious child.
During playtime, Anne gets called by her boss, “Anne! Phone for you!”, the boss says. “Who is it?” Anne asks calmly, “I’m kinda busy here winning!” Anne says, smirking and looking at the kids she was playing racketball against. “Hey that’s mean Anne! We’ll show you!” The kids exclaim. “Anne! He says he’s your brother! This seems really important!”
Rushing towards her Anne grabs the phone “David? What is it? Did something happen?!”. “Anne.. it’s Helen.. have you seen her?” David asks, voice shaky. “I saw her about an hour ago, she was still at school. Why?” Anne says, confused. “I just checked.. she wasn’t at school, I can’t find her. We need to find her Anne!” David says, sounding incredibly worried. “Okay okay calm down, I’ll search for her, she can’t have gone far, she might just be on her way home. Tell me if you find her okay? I’m coming your way” Anne exclaims reassuringly.
“Boss, I have to leave, I’m sorry! I’ll come back when I find Helen, I promise. This takes priority though!” Anne says, while running towards the path Helen usually takes to go home.
As she’s running, checking around as much as possible, she sees David. “David? Did you find her yet?” She asks, gasping for air. “She.. she’s not breathing Anne..” David says, crying. Anne looks around and notices David is holding Helen in his arms. “No.. no no no no this isn’t happening!” Anne shouts, Noticing Helen is soaked in water, with her backpack next to her.
Chapter 2: Cause and effect
“Helen!” Anne shouts, falling to her knees, “Why.. why did you do this Helen.. David! Have you called the ambulance?!”. “Of course I did! I’m not an idiot!” David says, crying loudly, “I.. I tried resuscitating her.. but she won’t breathe.. I found her face-down in the water..” “Let me try! I can’t let her die!” Anne says, grabbing her sister’s body, frantically applying CPR, tears flowing from her cheek, “Why isn’t it working?! Work damnit! This can’t be fucking happening!”
The two hear the sounds of a siren nearing them, “Finally, they’ll save her.. I’m sure they will..” Anne says, still trying to revive her sister. “We’re here! Give her to us, quickly!” The emergency responders yell, running towards them.
As the emergency responders try to revive Helen, David says, in a sad tone “I.. I don’t think she’s coming back Anne..” “Of course she is! I promised I’d protect her, she has to come back! I have to protect her!” Anne shouts, trying to keep her hopes up.
David and Anne hug, trying to comfort eachother, while looking at the emergency responders work. Suddenly, the emergency responders stop trying to revive her, and walk towards David and Anne. “No, nonono, you were supposed to bring her back, god damnit! Why are you stopping?!” Anne shouts, as David starts violently shaking. “We’re sorry.. she was dead before we arrived.. there was nothing we could do” The emergency responders say. Bursting into tears, David and Anne both fall to the ground, shaking and cursing, “Why.. why did this happen? Why did she do this?!” David shouts, as sadness slowly turns to anger. “Helen.. she.. slept with me last night, because she was scared. Mom and dad showed up in the morning, to attack her again, and I stopped them.. told her to just go to school and that I would be fine..” Anne says, breathing shakily at the realization.
“That can’t be why, it can’t be..” David says, “Maybe there’s something in her backpack or something that can tell us! There has to be another reason.. we tried so hard to protect her.. this can’t be.. “ David, frantically grabbing the backpack and throwing everything out, finds a suspicious looking piece of paper, “Anne.. I think.. I think this might be her suicide note..” David says, clearly shaken to his core.
“David, Anne, I’m sorry. You all suffered because of me for too long, and I don’t want you to suffer anymore. I love you, and I hope you can move on now.. this is it for me. Helen.” David reads out loud, tears flowing more and more, shaking violently. “God damnit Helen.. This isn’t what we wanted at all! We wanted to protect you because we love you! We didn’t suffer because of you! Fuck.. fuck fuck fuck, why!” Anne shouts, punching the grounds hard.
David stands up, an angered look on his face, “Anne.. there’s something I need to do. I love you, and I love you too Helen..” he says, walking away. “What the fuck do you think you’re doing David?! Helen’s right fucking here, you’re not even going to mourn for her?!” Anne shouts at David, anger causing her voice to shake.
Anne spends the next hour talking to the emergency responders, crying, as Helen’s body gets put in a bodybag and carried off. “I’ll miss you Helen.. I’ll miss you so much.. but I’ll live on, for your sake. I’ll live the life you couldn’t and I’ll make damn sure this never happens to anybody else.. nobody deserves to suffer like this..” Anne states, facing the facts and preparing to start a war when she comes home.
As Anne walks towards home, she sees Emily. Emily, looking at Anne, notices how clearly distraught she is, “Anne? Are you okay? What happened?” she says, rushing towards Anne and hugging her immediately. “Emily..Helen she.. she..” Anne breaks down again, crying and holding Emily tight, “Helen.. she’s not.. with us anymore..” she says, barely able to speak. “Oh god no.. I’m so sorry Anne I’m so sorry, come here, I’m here for you” Emily says, holding Anne tighter still. “I was supposed to protect her, Emily.. I told her I would protect her, I would keep her safe, and now look! She’s dead.. she killed herself.. it hurts so much Emily..” Anne says, shakily.
“David? David are you okay?” Emily suddenly says, having noticed David walking by. David looks at her, then Anne, and walks past them without saying a word. “David? Where are you going? Why.. why do you have blood on your shirt? David?!” Anne shouts at David. “I finished the job, Anne.” David says, stopping for a second, “Now I need to turn myself in.” “Wait.. what do you mean finished the job? David, what the fuck do you mean? Talk to me god damnit!” Anne shouts, scared, as David walks on, not looking back.
“Emily.. he didn’t.. we need to go to my house right now!” Anne tells Emily, panicked. Emily shakily nods her head, clearly distressed, as Anne grabs her hand and they run off to Anne’s house.
Arriving at the house, they notice the door is opened, “I’m scared Anne..” Emily says, breaking heavily. “I’m sure he was just kidding.. he wouldn’t have done anything right? Maybe he just yelled at them and they beat him up again.. maybe that’s why he was bloody!” Anne says, trying to rationalize the situation.
As they enter the house, they encounter a horrible scene. Lily and Aaron, mom and dad, laying lifelessly on the floor, blood everywhere. “Mom.. dad?! Hey, are you okay?!”Anne asks them, shaking their bodies desperately. “Anne.. I think they’re dead” Emily says, tears flowing down her face. Anne, at the sudden realization they are actually dead, looks at her mom’s lifeless face and passes out from the emotional pain. “Anne?! Anne? Wake up, Anne! Please.. I need to call 911 oh god” Emily says, extremely worried, crying as she holds her best friend in her arms.
Several hours later, Anne wakes up in the hospital, with Emily by her side, “Wait.. what happened? Why am I in the hospital?” she asks. “You passed out when you.. saw your mother” Emily says, worried she might pass out again. “Oh right.. are they okay? And what about David?!” Anne asks, worried and looking for answers. “Your parents, they didn’t make it. I’m sorry Anne.” Emily says, shakily. “God damnit god damnit god damnit! Okay, okay so what about David? Is he okay?” Anne asks, trying to fight back the tears.
“David took matters into his own hands.. he went to the police, and confessed to killing your parents.” Emily says, holding Anne’s hand tight, worried. “Y-You’re kidding right? This is a joke? This really isn’t funny Emily, it’s really really not funny at all!” Anne says, falling over her own words. “I’m sorry Anne, I really am.” Emily says, shaking her head, “this isn’t a joke.” “Why?! I hated them too, but surely there was a better way to get revenge for Helen! Now they’ll never get the punishment they deserved..” Anne says, as tears start flowing yet again, “That fucking idiot, what the fuck was he thinking? Now his life is fucking ruined! Helen wanted us to have a good life, and she wanted us not to suffer anymore, but he’s effectively ended his own life! That fucking idiot..”
There’s a knock on the door, “Sorry to interrupt, I was told to check up on you.” A young doctor says, clearly aware of the situation, “It’ll only be a minute, I promise. I just need to see to your wounds and then I’ll leave you two alone.” “It’s.. it’s fine, doctor. “ Anne says, wiping the tears from her face, “I guess I need to start taking care of myself from now on, so might as well have you heal me up right?” She laughs while crying, desperately trying to distract herself from the intense emotional pain she’s suffering.
After the medical examination, Anne gets released. On her way out of the hospital with Emily, she asks “Hey, can I sleep at your place tonight? I don’t think I can go back in that house without breaking down again..” “Of course! You can stay at my place for as long as you want, you’re always welcome.” Emily says, grabbing Anne again for a tight hug, “You’re precious to me, I’ll take care of you for now. I know you’re a tough girl but just for now, let it all out and let me take care of you, okay?” Anne nods silently, as she holds Emily tight. “Thank you..”
As they walk outside, Anne asks Emily, “Hey, do you know where they’re holding David?” “I do.. but are you sure you want to talk to him right now?” Emily asks, clearly worried. “I’ll be fine, I just have to tell him something, and then I’ll move on.” Anne says, sounding remarkably confident. Emily takes a second, then states “Okay, I know which station he’s being held. I’ll take you there.” “Thank you Emily.. I just need to tell him something, before we go to your place and I break down again!” Anne says, putting up a fake smile.
After about 15 minutes of walking, they arrive at the Hundar police station, Anne walks in to the counter, “Hey, can I speak to David Sandria? He’s my brother.” “Give me a second” The officer says, “Okay, he’s in cell C, just don’t make it too long, alright?” Anne nods, heading towards the cell her brother is held in, holding Emily’s hand as she becomes increasingly scared. David..?” Anne says, shaken, as she sees her brother in his cell. “Oh, Anne, I didn’t expect you to come, after what I did.” David says, sounding remorseful. “Of course I came you fucking idiot big brother. How could I not, after what you did?” Anne says angrily, “I just came here to tell you a few things, and then we’ll probably never see eachother again, considering you’re spending the rest of your life locked up.” David scoffs, “Alright then little sis, spit it out. Tell me how much you hate me now.”
“David, you’re an idiot. You threw your own life away, but I won’t. I’ve decided I will use this life to help and protect those who can’t protect themselves. I won’t be like you, and seek revenge. I’ll turn my pain and suffering into something productive, into strength, strength for people like Helen, who can’t protect themselves, and for people like you, who lost their lives because of a stupid mistake. While you’re in prison, I want you to think about your little sister and be proud, because she’s going to do something with her life, she’s going to help people, and she won’t ever give up. I love you, David.” Anne says, as she grabs Emily and walks off.
Chapter 3: Recovery
“Here we are, welcome to my house!” Emily says, “Go lay on the couch, I’ll get you some tea and a blanket, and we’ll watch some movies.” “Thank you..” Anne says, “I really appreciate you taking care of me, you’re all I really have left.”
As Anne goes to lay on the couch, she’s suddenly struck again, by the realization of everything that happened today. “Emily..” Anne says, “I failed to protect her didn’t I? And David.. I could’ve stopped him, but I was too busy feeling miserable.” Emily rushes over to Anne, holds her tight and says “You didn’t fail anyone, you protected her the best you could, you’ve still got the scars to show it.. And nobody could have stopped David, you didn’t know he would do something this crazy.” “But.. I did know..” Anne says, “I heard him say something about getting them back for what they’d done.. I knew he was angry, I knew what he was going to do when he left after seeing Helen like that, but I didn’t stop him.. Because I didn’t want to. I could have stopped him, but I wanted them dead just as badly as he did, I’m a monster.”
“You really shouldn’t blame yourself so much..” Emily says, “You say you knew this would happen, but the look of shock on your face said otherwise. Maybe you thought it might happen, but I don’t think you knew it would. You would’ve stopped him if you knew, you’re too good of a person to let that happen. Maybe you just trusted your brother enough, maybe you were hoping he wouldn’t do anything, and that’s why you didn’t try to stop him. None of this is your fault, you always look out for others, you get hurt for the sake of others, and all you want is to make people happy, so please.. don’t blame yourself for any of this.”
“I.. I’m so sorry, Emily. I didn’t want to make you feel bad.. I’m so sorry” Anne says, clinging to Emily tightly, “You mean the world to me, you’re the only person I have left now.. I don’t want you to feel bad too..” Emily grabs Anne by the shoulders, giving her a kiss on her forehead. “You mean the world to me too, Anne. And I don’t feel bad, because I’m your rock right now. Just let it all out, let all of those emotions flow, I can take it. Let me do this for you.”
Anne spends the next few hours switching between feelings of remorse, regret, fear, anger, and sadness. “Emily.. can I sleep in bed with you..?” Anne says, quietly “I really don’t feel like I could sleep alone right now..” “Of course you can, “Emily says, smiling “As long as you want. I told you, I’ll be your rock. I’ll do anything I can to help you.” As Emily takes Anne to her bedroom, Anne suddenly realizes “I don’t have my pajamas..” Emily giggles, “Don’t worry, you can borrow some of mine. Don’t worry about these small things, okay? I’ll take care of everything.”
They spend the night together, sleeping in relative peace, with Emily comforting Anne whenever she wakes up from the nightmares. The next day, Anne wakes up in bed, alone. “Emily..? Where did you go?” She asks, seeming confused. “Oh! Anne, you’re awake! Sorry, I had to take care of some stuff!” Emily shouts from the living room, “I’ve got some tea and some toast ready if you want breakfast.” “What were you taking care of..?” Anne asks, still sounding tired from having just woken up. “Oh I was calling school and informed them about what happened, they told me that we could take all the time off we wanted, so you had some time to heal.” “We..?” Anne asks, “Did you get time off as well?” “Yep!” Emily says, smiling “I told the principal you were sleeping here for a while, and that you don’t feel safe alone, so they gave me time off as well, to take care of you.”
Anne shows a faint smile, “Thank you.. for taking care of me, again.” “Oh look there’s that cute smile I’ve been missing!” Emily says, giggling “You know, if you don’t want boring toast, I can treat you to some proper breakfast somewhere nice. We all know you deserve to be pampered a bit.” Anne nods, “Can we.. can we go to that pancake house? I’ve always wanted to try it but I never had time.” “Of course we can! I hear they’ve got these delicious pancakes with strawberries and other fruits, it sounds incredible. I’ve never been either, so it’ll be our first time together.” Emily says with a smirk. “I almost forgot what a dork you were, Emily. Thanks for reminding me” Anne says, “But there’s one problem.. I don’t really have any clothes that aren’t dirty, and I don’t think they’d let me in wearing a bloodied shirt..”
“Hey hey hey don’t worry about that, shhhh” Emily says, putting her finger on Anne’s lips, “I told you I’d take care of it, right? So don’t think about all these sad things right now, I’ve got you. I already laid out an outfit for you to wear in the bathroom, luckily we’re the same size, other than the chest” She says, air motioning some big breasts.
“Emily.. you’re such a dork..” Anne says, sniffling. “I just don’t want you to cry Anne..” Emily says, holding Anne tight once again, “I know you’ll most likely never fully recover from what happened, but if I can make you smile, even just a little bit, that makes me happy. Someone as beautiful and sweet as you doesn’t deserve all of this pain.” “Thank you Emily.. again.. I don’t know how I could ever repay you..” Anne says. “You don’t ever have to repay me, you matter the world to me, and I love you.” Emily states, smiling “But if you want to repay me, you could always show me that pretty smile of yours when you start feeling better.. now get dressed so we can get some freakin’ strawberry pancakes, I’m hungry!”
An hour later, arriving at the pancake house. “Welcome to the pancake house! How may I help you?” The waiter says in an excited tone. “Uh.. can I have the strawberry pancake, please?” Anne says. “Oh I’ll have the tropical pancake, that sounds tasty actually!” Emily says excitedly. “Certainly, thank you for your order!” The waiter says before leaving to process the order. “You were shouting about strawberry pancakes on your way here, and now you decide against it?” Anne asks Emily. “Well I had a better idea! If you get the strawberry and I get the tropical one, we can try eachothers pancakes and see which one tastes better!” Emily says, still excited. “I feel like this is just an excuse for you to eat more fruit, miss sweet tooth. “Anne says. “Whaaaat? I would never do such a thing~” Emily says, unconvincingly. “Don’t become an actress, Emily.” Anne says mockingly.
“One strawberry and one tropical for the ladies, I hope you enjoy!” The waiter says and walks off. “Ohhhh they both look delicious! And they have fresh fruits on them too!” Emily says, noticing the fruits on her pancake “Anne! Have you ever had pineapple?” “I haven’t actually..” Anne says, embarrassed. “I never really got the chance to try many different things, we always just had to eat whatever we could get.” “Well open wide then cuz you’re trying out some pineapple!” Emily exclaims, picking up a piece of pineapple with her fork and hovering it near Anne’s mouth, “Say aaaaaaa!” “You’re such a dork, Emily.” Anne says, grabbing the fork from her hand and eating the bit of pineapple, “Ohhh this tastes really nice actually!” “I knew you’d like it!” Emily says joyfully, “Now try some of the pancake!”
After eating their luxurious breakfast, the two walk outside. “What do you want to do now?” Emily asks. “I.. I want to go back to where we found Helen. And I want to buy some flowers.” Anne says. “Well let’s get her the prettiest freaking flowers we can afford then!” Emily says, grabbing Anne’s hand as they start walking towards the path Helen was found. “Before I leave this place, I want to visit her grave, too. There’s not going to be a funeral, but I still want to see her one last time before I go.” Anne says. “Leave..? What do you plan on doing, Anne?” Emily asks. “I’m going to join the military, I’m going to protect those who can’t protect themselves, that’s what I’ve decided. I’ll train my hardest and do my best to get stronger so I can help those who can’t help themselves, and to save as many lives as I can.” Anne states, “We’re at peace anyways, the military spends most of its time with civil affairs now, which suits me fine.”
Emily freezes for a second, then grabs Anne “Promise me you won’t die, and that you’ll come to visit me. I don’t want to be without you..” Emily states, as she starts crying. “What is this so suddenly, Emily? Please don’t cry.. I don’t plan on dying anytime soon, and of course I’d come to visit my best friend as much as I can! Maybe in a few years I’ll come back and you’ll have a cool husband and a kid for me to meet, that’s what you always wanted right?” Anne says. “You’re such an idiot sometimes Anne.. Just promise me you’ll come to see me.” Emily says, visibly more upset than before. “I-I promise Emily.. please stop crying.. you’re the only person I have left, remember? You mean the world to me.” “You don’t realize what you’re saying at all..” Emily sniffles, “When I said I loved you, I didn’t mean that as a friend.” She says, before loosening her grip on Anne, “Let’s go.. to the florist.” Anne, speechless, starts walking along with Emily and grabs her hand silently.
“Welcome to my little shop!” The lady working at the florist says, “How can I help you today?” Anne freezes up at the thought of talking about what happened, and clenches Emily’s hand. Emily, realizing the situation, speaks up “We’d like some beautiful flowers to place where the life of a beautiful young lady was lost, please.” “Oh I’m so sorry to hear that.. do you know her favourite colours?” The lady asks. Emily looks at Anne reassuringly. “She really liked red, pink and orange..” Anne says sniffling, “She said it reminded her of autumn and all the beautiful leaves.” “We can definitely work with that! Just give me a second and I’ll make a beautiful bouquet for her.” The lady says with a smile.
After waiting for about 10 minutes, the lady comes back with a giant bouquet of beautiful flowers. “I wanted to make it look more like autumn, since that was her favourite season.”The lady says. “T-Thank you..” Anne says. “I’ll pay for them” Emily says, reassuringly “You just find a nice place to put them for her.”
“Good luck.. and sorry for your loss.” The lady says as the two leave.
“Here we are..” Anne says, as they arrived where Helen was found, “I didn’t think I’d be back here so soon..” She says, laying the flowers where David was holding Helen when she saw them “Too bad he can’t be here for this..” “She’d have loved these flowers” Emily says, “Maybe she’s still loving them, from someplace else.” Anne grabs Emily’s arm tight “I’ll never forget about her.. I’ll be a better person, for her. I’ll help people, I’ll live the life she couldn’t.” She says as tears flow onto her cheeks. “You’re a good person, Anne.. A good person, and a good sister.” Emily says, hugging Anne. “Thank you Emily.. I’ve been saying that a lot..” Anne says, with a faint smile. “I wonder what Helen would say, if she knew what was going through my mind right now.. She’d probably laugh at me and tell me to just do it and be happy, for just a second.” Anne says, looking at Emily. “I think she’d be happy, as long as you’re happy. All she wanted was for you to be happy, just like you wanted her to be happy. I’m sure no matter what kind of thing you’re thinking about, she’d be fine with it, as long as it made you happy.” Emily says, comfortingly.
“Yeah, you’re right..” Anne says, as she suddenly goes in and kisses Emily. “Thanks.. that did make me happy.” Emily, flabbergasted, stares at Anne “I-I’m glad.. I’m glad that made you happy! hahahha.. I don’t think Helen would be mad at you for that” She says, still in shock. “Let’s go home.. I want to relax a little” Anne says, “I love you Helen.. I’ll never forget you. Thanks for allowing me some happiness, I promise I’ll be happy from now on, like you wanted.”
Chapter 4: A New Beginning
Upon arriving at home, Anne and Emily spent the rest of the day relaxing, allowing their emotions to cool down.
As the next day arrives, Anne is woken up by shouting “Anne! Wake the frig up!” Startled, Anne jumps out of bed “What is it?! Are you okay?!” She shouts. “Breakfast is ready, and we need to talk about some stuff!” Emily shouts from the other room, “Now get that cute butt over here!”
“I’m here..” Anne says, still tired. “Good! Now come sit with me, I made us some omelets.” Emily says with a smile on her face. “So what is it that was so important you had to wake me up?” Anne questions. “We’ve known eachother for a long time now, haven’t we? I think, with everything that happened recently, you deserve to know more about me, and about this world.” Emily states
“What do you mean know more about you? Don’t tell me.. you like girls!” Anne says sarcastically. “Haha, very funny. No, it’s something more.. fantastical, I guess you could say. Do you know anything about the gods some people worship?” Emily asks. “Only a little bit.. there’s one of those worshipping things nearby, for some Lyralei goddess or whatever. Why?” Anne asks confusedly. “Well, there’s quite a few gods out there that people worship. Some of them fake, some of them real. The reason I bring this up is because it is said some people are blessed with the power of the gods when they are born, we call these people sky-born.” She says.
“Yeah, I know there’s these fabled super-humans, what about them?” Anne asks, looking at Emily with questioning eyes. “Well, suppose these fabled super-humans were actually real. And if you join the army, there’s a good chance you might end up running into one. If that were to happen, you’d want to know how to survive against them, right?” Emily asks. “Well yeah.. I’d rather not end up dead because of some magically powerful person shooting me with lightningbolts or whatever, but that’s not really a thing so why should I worry about it?” Anne asks.
“Beating around the bush is pointless, I guess..” Emily says, sighing. “Very well then, I’ll show you. But only because.. you’re you.” She says, standing up as a gust of wind suddenly flies into the room. “These sky-born aren’t just fables, we’re real. Some of us, like me, get paid to stay silent about this and to occassionally work for the government when needed. Others, they use their powers for their own good, or for the good of others, but don’t take the government’s hush money.” Emily says, creating what seems like a miniature tornado in the palm of her hand.
“Uh.. this.. this is kinda surreal. How the hell are you doing that?” Anne says, struggling to talk. “It’s said that all of us are bestowed with the power of a god, in my case that’d be Davina, the sky god who is said to control the weather. I can change the temperature, humidity and flow of the air to create natural phenomena on a smaller scale. I’m not very strong though” Emily giggles. “S-So.. why are you telling me all of this surreal stuff now?” Anne asks. “Because you have something that few people have, and when you join the army, they will surely assign you to the anti-magic division because of it.” Emily says, grabbing Anne’s hand and making her grab onto the wrist of her other hand.
Anne stares in disbelief, as what seemed like a miniature tornado suddenly disappears from Emily’s palm, and the gusts of wind stop. “You can cancel out other people’s magic, and weaken even some of the strongest magic. They call it Nullification, and you’re not the only one who has this ability, although it is far more uncommon than even sky-born are.”
“Y-You’re kidding right? All of this is crazy.. I’m nobody special in any way, I’ve never even heard of any of this before!” Anne says, sounding shocked “The only reason I bring this up is because you deserve the truth sweetie, and not the lies the army might tell you. Many people have some kind of ability they will never realize they have, because they don’t want people to know. They would feed you lies about sky-born, and the magic they hold. Tell you that they’re all evil and have been taken over by some kind of wicked creature so you’ll be more motivated to fight. I.. I care about you deeply Anne, and I just want you to know what you’ll be getting yourself into. They will undoubtedly recruit you and make you fight sky-born who chose to use their powers for their own gain.” Emily states in a serious tone.
“Okay okay okay, so you’re telling me I kissed some kind of superhuman girl, and if I join the army I’ll have to fight other superhumans? How did I end up here.. I just wanted to protect people.” Anne says “You did indeed kiss a superhuman!” Emily giggles, “We should do that again sometime. Anyways! You can protect a lot more people this way. A lot of the sky-born you might end up having to take on will have taken the lives of many others to support their own goals, and will take many more if nobody stops them. You’re one of the few people who can stand a chance against them, if you train hard enough.”
“So.. are you going to help me then?” Anne asks “Yeah, I am.” Emily states, “Until Helen’s funeral, I will tell you all I know about sky-born, how to counter them, and how to train yourself. After that, I’ll be your gym partner! We can get all muscular together” Emily giggles. “Seems like a plan.. I’m sure I can make Helen proud, beating baddies that other people can’t.” Anne says, shakily.
4 days later, Emily and Anne prepare for the funeral of Helen.
“Helen deserved better than this..” Anne says, putting on her finest black dress. “All we can do now is say our last words, and cherish her memory.” Emily states calmly.
Anne and Emily arrive at Helen’s gravesite, just the two of them.
“I wonder if anyone from her school came earlier.. I hope so.” Anne says “I’m sure some people will come to say their goodbyes, even if there was no real funeral.” Emily says “This is her funeral to me,” Anne says “I’m the only family she has left, and you’re the only friend she has. That’s good enough.”
“We brought you some flowers, Helen.” Emily says, as she lays the flowers near her gravestone, “I hope you like them, we got them from the same florist as last time.” “I’m sure she’d say she loves them even if she didn’t like them at all..” Anne says, working up a faint smile. “That’s the kind of girl she was, always looking out for other people’s feelings.”
Emily embraces Anne, “She’s in a better place now. Probably surrounded by cute animals all the time, knowing her” Emily says reassuringly. “Probably yeah.. She always loved animals. I remember taking her to the petting zoo when she was a bit younger and she had the time of her life there, among all the animals. She didn’t want to leave” Anne says, laughing faintly. “I’m sure Rani is taking good care of her up there, letting her play with all the animals, she’s probably having a blast.” Emily says “You and your gods..” Anne giggles, “I hope you’re right though, I really do. She deserves to be happy wherever she might be... I just hope she doesn’t end up with my parents..”
“If any of these gods exist, they’d make damn sure that Helen was protected from them, I’d say. And if they aren’t protecting her I’ll come up there and give them a piece of my mind until they do protect her” Emily giggles. “You always manage to find a way to make me laugh, no matter the circumstances.. I really like you.” Anne says. Emily, suddenly blushing says “I like you too! But that’s not what we’re here for right?” She says, laughing nervously. “You’re right.. I just thought Helen would like to see some happiness for a bit, instead of all this sadness.” Anne says, “Anyways..I think we should leave soon, before my brain fully comprehends she’s not coming back.” “That seems like a good idea.. let me treat you to dinner so you can cool down a little.” Emily says, “Goodbye, Helen. we’ll miss you, and I hope you’re happy, wherever you might be.” “Bye sis.. I love you.” Anne says, tears flowing.
The day after, Anne and Emily further their training, 2 hours at the gym every day and then sparring until they’re both too fatigued to keep going.
“I’ve been meaning to ask..” Anne says in a hushed tone, “How do you even know all of these exercises and fighting techniques?” “Couldn’t resist anymore, could you?” Emily giggles, as she brushes the sweat off her face “My parents were a bit overly protective of me, and made me take self defense lessons because they were scared I’d get hurt.” “Oh so that’s why you had to leave so often! I thought you had a secret boyfriend with how regularly you left me hanging back in the day. Why did you never tell me?” Anne asks. Emily sighs, “I could tell you but it’s kind of embarrassing to be honest..” “Ohhhh?” Anne says with a smile, “Now I really want to know!” Emily starts to blush a little, “It’s because.. I was afraid you’d be scared of me if you knew all of this. I wanted you to think I was a cute girlygirly because I thought that’s the kind of girl you were interested in, and knowing I took self defense classes, and knew all these fighting moves could have intimidated you, or so I thought when I was a bit younger. When I finished self defense lessons, I just never felt the need to bring it up again, and I was content with you liking me superficially.” “Oh Emily..” Anne says as she starts to blush “You shouldn’t have hidden those things from me. I’ve always admired strong women who knew how to fight and defend themselves.. If anything it.. it makes me like you even more.” “W-Well good! I guess I better get super fit and muscular so you’ll like me more!” Emily says, laughing embarrassedly.
“A-Anyways! Let’s train some more shall we? It’ll be a good excuse for me to touch you” Emily giggles. “You’ll be touching my arm as it wraps around you and throws you onto the ground cutie” Anne says teasingly.
As the appointed day arrives for Anne to talk to the recruiter, and start on the next big phase of her life, Emily shows some worry.
“So.. it’s almost time for you to leave, isn’t it?” Emily says softly, “There’s no way I can convince you to stay with me?” “Don’t make this harder than it already is Em.. You know I have to do this. I’ll try to visit you whenever I can.” Anne states.
“I-I know I’ve been helping you train and stuff but.. I’m really scared, Anne.. I don’t want to lose you, and even just the thought of not getting to eat dinner with you anymore, not getting to watch cute shows together, not being able to hear your cute laugh.. it’s really difficult for me. I know I should be encouraging you but I really don’t want you to actually leave..” Emily says, crying softly.
“Em.. don’t say these things.. you know I’ll miss you as well, right? You’re the only one I have left, but I have to do this. I have to help people, I have to protect people, I have to prevent the things that happened to me and my family!” Anne says.
“You can protect people in other ways! You can help people, you can prevent what happened to you and your family in a way that doesn’t put your life at risk! I.. I really don’t want you to do this anymore. This entire time, I was hoping you would change your mind, that you would think of a different way to help people, one where you don’t have to leave me alone, one where you can live a normal life and be happy!” Emily shouts
“Then what? What do you want me to do? Sit here and hope the opportunity arises to help people? When I can be out there helping people, protecting them, by putting my life at stake? I don’t want to leave you, Emily. I really don’t! But what the hell else am I supposed to do?! I want to protect those who can’t protect themselves! I don’t have magical superpowers like you do, I can’t just magically help people with my super human strength or anything, I’m a normal girl and this is the only thing I can think of that a normal girl can do to protect people!” Anne shouts.
“Anne.. I..” Emily struggles to say, before she falls to the ground. “Em? Emily?! What’s wrong?” Anne says shocked, as she grabs Emily, “Are you okay? Emily!”
“One target down, sir.” A voice from outside says.
