coming out of my cage and i been doing just bad. going back in my cage because i like my cage
#sarkposting#alethrielposting#gotta say...#making two characters that start with disadvantage on wisdom saves and eventually GAIN advantage on them?...#hmm... wonder if there's a pattern...#wonder if there's any conclusions i could draw about myself...#that being said- sark would classically bully alethriel#those two WOULD NOT hang...

I LOVE using this in my campaigns.
There're some examples that I can't give, just because one of my players follows me, lol.
But I love using this as a tactic to make them think critically about who they're aligning with early on.
For instance, on one quest they had to go to a kingdom they'd only been in briefly before- and all they really learned from that is that the people they were supposed to visit had formed a pretty dour culture- so one of my players wanted to go to the library ahead of time and try and learn something about them.
So, he goes to the library, and learns all these facts about how they're isolationists, and ruthless, and only care for martial prowess, and also that they had no written language, so all their actual history is stored orally, and historians in other kingdoms have no access to it.
So, he leaves a little frightened of this place, and convinced he might not be able to learn anything of note about their history- and heads off to the new kingdom.
Except when they get there, there's an obelisk with the names and titles of all of their past kings in the center of their city... Not something a kingdom with "no written language" would have...
This serves 2 purposes in an interactive medium
1) it causes tension, because the players no longer know the factuality of the things they've read or heard, and are now afraid they've walked into something they haven't prepared for. It puts them on their back foot and reminds them to keep their guards up.
And 2) it makes them think twice before they just accept things as being true... Especially from a royal library in a kingdom that they ALREADY KNEW LOOKED DOWN ON OUTSIDERS AND LOVED TO PUSH THEIR IMPERIALIST PROPAGANDA...
Obviously you shouldn't ALWAYS lie to your players
But think about who they're getting their information from, and the narrative they would want to push... And push it...because you're them... For 5 minutes you want what they would want... And you will say and do whatever they would to make sure you get it...
I would love to see a fantasy novel where the lore that the reader / protagonist learns at first is not true
#DnD homegame hell#sometimes i do it because a player is being obstinate or refusing to use critical thinking#sometimes it's a necessarry skill or moral i need to emphasize for the table#SOMETIMES its's just fun to lie

Florence, trying to keep the party from being killed: just SHUT your BIG FAT MOUTH! I'm going to muzzle you!!!
Alethriel, trauma dumping: I'm sorry... It's been nearly 1000 years since I've been able to talk to people that could respond...
Florence: KEEP IT THAT WAY!!!

This is unironically one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. It stuck with me from the moment I first read it. The art, the story of it...

THE GOBLIN
A short comic about a mysterious creature living with the monks of a secluded abbey.
I made this comic five years ago, and it's still probably one of the most personal things I've written.
If you'd like to support more of my comics, consider preordering my new graphic novel, THE PALE QUEEN, wherever you get books.
#It feels almost like defiling it to have it on this blog#and yet...#Sarkposting#no cause like... listen#THEY PROVOKE HIM!!!#they FORCE HIM to act like the monster they accuse him of being in an act of self defense#its so terrible#and it happens every goddamn day

He's a goblin
He's a cultist
He's a teen dad
He's a Barbarian
He's a Warlock
He's a Sorcerer
He's a Paladin
He's only SOME of those things at the same time
He's got demons in his blood
He's an amnesiac
He no longer has permanent disadvantage on wisdom saves
He sold his soul to a lich
He was trapped in stone for 25 years
He gave up godhood to give it to his dipshit little brother
He kept his friends head in a jar for 20 years
He's an absent father
He's the nosiest man in the world
He almost caused a tpk
He's Middlesdwell's worst dish washer
I didn't say his name, but you thought of him, didn't you?...

Welcome
This Is my side-blog for me to put all of my DnD thoughts, memes, etc. For a little background about me: I'm 22, I've been playing ttrpgs since high school, in 5e I'm a divine caster main (just say you're having an identity crisis and roll the damn dice (¬_¬")...), I'm currently working my way through a bhaalist!durge run on BG3 (sorry to anyone who reads this and didn't know what durge's deal was ig...), and I'm an avid liar- considering my bio says I'm a DM and I'm actually running a CyberPunk RED campaign rn... Call me nothing, but ask me anything! Seriously! You don't have enough money to make me shut up! Ask me questions, tell me about the game you're playing, start a fight, find love, the world is your oyster!
To anticipate some questions before I potentially receive them...
Where did you get your header? Through the power of photo editors, all things are possible... And your pfp? That was actually my first 5e character, drawn by my lovely roommate @synarthrosis Why do you call this a DnD account if you're also talking about other ttrpgs? Are you a cop?
