Discord and Fandom

I would highly, HIGHLY recommend that if you are a part of a fandom, you join Discord. It is an interesting blend of community instant messenger and forum, in that it allows for content separation but all content is instantly messaged, and servers can contain hundreds (if not thousands) of people at a time.

What does this mean? Why is this useful?

This means that fandoms, as a huge group, can stay in contact while we all try to regroup. If your fandom already has a Discord server set up, GREAT! Find it and join it!! Pass the link around! Make sure your friends are a part of it!

If your fandom does not have a server you’re aware of, it’s SUPER easy to make one. Even if you all have several servers going for a fandom, that’s better than no servers; you can always condense/migrate to a single server as you reconvene post-purge, and delete ones that are no longer needed.

The thing is; it’s live. Your fandom can decide, as a group in real time, where the best place to settle is going to be. You can stick together through this! Some of you may belong to several fandom servers, and that will allow for cross-referencing– if X fandom is going to Dreamwidth, maybe Y fandom will want to find a home there too. At the very least, you stay in contact with your own folks.

i just saw a fb post where a man was arguing with a woman about the best way to make macarons and he kept insisting that she was wrong, and then eventually he was like “I’ve never personally made macarons, but if you think about it what I’m saying makes sense, i’m simply stating the obvious. i’m sure there are plenty of youtube tutorials that would show you the same thing.” and the woman replied by linking him to her instagram business page and she makes fuckin macaron towers for parties for a living and i’ve been laughing about it for a solid 5 minutes.
