Where the fuck did some of you see that Aline hates Alicia ?

Because, to me, the journal entry and the game sounded like this :

Aline : I’m completely depressed and despondent bc my son is dead and I preferred when I was irrationally angry at everything bc at least I felt something.

Aline : I’m kinda chasing the heights of my anger back you know.

Aline : Except from my youngest daughter because just seeing her being as sad or even sadder than me makes me even more depressed so I’m avoiding her right now.

Aline : However I’m not avoiding my fucking husband unless it’s about my latest project to get in touch with feelings that are not complete apathy nor despair.

Aline : So I drew my perfect family, it’s my husband who’s there for his family, my eldest daughter who’s not a murderous genius on the path of vengeance, my son who is alive and my youngest daughter that I kinda didn’t change.

Aline : So my real husband kinda nuked my drawing like a jealous kid scratching another’s paper and my son went AWOL and my eldest disappeared. It’s not perfect but at least I can still play family with my imaginary husband and my second daughter. If my son ever comes back I am gonna open the door wide so he knows he’s still welcomed.

Everyone : She hates her daughter.

I don’t really get the anger/vengeance thing. One thing someone who really hated her would have done : simple remove her. In a « nothing would have happened if you didn’t exist way ». A « my family could have been perfect and alive if not for you so in my perfect family you wouldn’t be there ». Like maybe I would fantasise about killing them one or twice but afterwards I would live my bestest life without them in it. I wouldn’t make the effort to have them live with me and my husbando in our big mansion and I wouldn’t care enough to make them immortal and keep them immortal even when they are made of and powered by the very chroma that could help me keep my dream world running longer.

Also she worries when she realises the real Alicia is in the Canvas.

Other argument I heard : she took Alicia’s colours.

Pure speculation. Renoir’s Axon that represents Alicia is also monochrome which is a bit big to be a coincidence imo. The Chroma that « made » Maelle a part of the Canvas had to come from somewhere so why not the painted characters that are already associated with her essence ? Speculation again but it’s as valid.

Also, Verso says to Monoco that Maelle just looks like Alicia and it’s not that obvious with the scar and without the colours (see all the tricked people who played the game). I’m also not sure Monoco ever saw the real Alicia before meeting Maelle so the painted one would be his reference.

Other argument 2: the scars. Why keep them ?

Aline can’t stand to look at the real Alicia because their suffering is echoing and making her feel worse. She could either be trying to get used to looking at her without the pain or she chose her as an anchor to remind herself of the fire and her woes so she doesn’t lose herself in the Canvas dream or she thinks Alicia is the only person in the family who’s actually grieving properly and doesn’t have to be changed. I think it’s a combination of all three.

Aline is not dumb. Aside from her blunder with Verso at the top of the Monolith, there’s not much to prove she completely lost the plot. And tbh, it feels a bit patronising to say a woman is crazy with grief because her husband said so when she’s literally screaming that she knows what she’s doing.

(I’m not saying Aline is perfect because all Dessendre are flawed and kinda fucked up but Aline hating Alicia/Maelle doesn’t makes any sense to me unless you’re watching the situation from Maelle’s POV. In which case, seeing your mother actively avoid you after having her super angry at everyone after your brother’s death, is 100% chances to be sure she hates you)
