helpful reminders for people interested in joining art fight

-artists of any skill level can participate! don't worry about your art not being good enough—people will be thrilled to receive artwork of their characters no matter how "good" your art is. i've been on art fight for three years and spend a lot of time scrolling through the website in the off-season, but i've never once personally seen someone be mean to another person in the comments. sometimes people won't thank you for the attack, but that tends to happen regardless of skill level. (speaking of, there are a lot of reasons why someone might not be able to leave a comment, but if you can, it's always nice to give people a thank you after all of their hard work!) -you can make attacks in practically any visual medium! digital art, traditional art, and 3d models are allowed, but you can also make fun things like stuffed animals, cosplays, minecraft skins, lego builds, or d&d dice inspired by a character! and that's not even all of the cool things that are allowed- go poke around the crafts section of the attack guide for more ideas. :) the main things you can't submit as an attack are composed songs or written works, although you can include them in the attack description of a drawn (or crafted/3d modeled/etc.) attack and mark the attack as polished!

-you don't have to make fancy ref sheets to participate in art fight. throwing random sketches of your characters you've already doodled over the years into their profile is totally fine. you can even make a picrew of your characters and add that to their profiles instead if you don't feel like drawing anything of them at all! (remember that picrew can't be used for attacks, however, and images generated by ai aren't allowed on-site whatsoever.) or, if you don't care about receiving artwork, you can just not make any character profiles! it's not required; feel free to just make art for other people instead. :) + more under cut :]

-you can join art fight at any time, even after the event has started! i joined several days into the event my first year and it was totally fine. however, if you want to be able to pick your team instead of being randomly assigned, you'll want to make an account beforehand and keep an eye out for the early bird team signups once the themes have dropped! -speaking of the themes, the teams honestly don't matter that much. it's all just for friendly competition! the only thing you get out of winning is bragging rights and a funky badge. you don't have to theme your attacks or characters after the themes (although it can be fun!), and getting points only matters as much as you want it to. lots of people make friendly fire attacks (attacks on someone from the same team as you) despite the fact that you only get 20% of the points. (pro tip from a veteran, though: if you make a mass attack containing characters from both teams, the point scoring is based on the main recipient of the attack! therefore, if you put the main recipient as someone on the opposite team, you'll get full points, even if a character from someone on the same team as you is included in the attack.) -you don't have to make tons of attacks to participate. attacking a single person the whole event is a totally valid way to play! plus, while many people enjoying returning fire on people who attack them, no one is required to revenge. don't feel pressured into making more attacks than you want to! this is supposed to be fun. :) (also, this doesn't match the theme of those other points at all, but i see this mistake everywhere on art fight, so i just really want to mention it: characters can be added to the attack field multiple times if they're drawn multiple times in the same attack! you can add them once for each unique image! (make sure to keep the size rating for each individual drawing correct, though!) you can also add your own character in the field for points (although the focus of the piece must be on another person's character) and gain points for random background characters you draw, such a generic waitress in a diner scene! for the latter, you just add the person you're attacking's character another time in the field to represent this generic npc. plus, three-headed characters count as a fullbody plus two additional headshots. please get your points, guys!)
