As a wheelchair user I'm trying to reframe my language for "being in the way."
"I'm in the way," "I can't fit," and "I can't go there," is becoming "there's not enough space," "the walkway is too narrow," and "that place isn't accessible."
It's a small change, but to me it feels as if I'm redirecting blame from myself to the people that made these places inaccessible in the first place. I don't want people to just think that they're helping me, I want them to think that they're making up for someone else's wrongdoing. I want them to remember every time I've needed help as something someone else caused.

I got an ask from someone who felt timid about drawing curlier hair and wanted some advice! This is by NO means exhaustive and is mostly just my thought process for my own stylization. There are tons of resources for drawing more textured hair, so for this I just wanted to focus on curls. hope it helps!

When people get a little too gung-ho about-
wait. cancel post. gung-ho cannot be English. where did that phrase come from? China?
ok, yes. gƍnghĂ©, which is
an abbreviation for “industrial cooperative”? Like it was just a term for a worker-run organization? A specific U.S. marine stationed in China interpreted it as a motivational slogan about teamwork, and as a commander he got his whole battalion using it, and other U.S. marines found those guys so exhausting that it migrated into English slang with the meaning “overly enthusiastic”.
That’s
wild. What was I talking about?

in light of police across the country cracking down on pro palestine protests with brutal force, it feels like a great time to remind everyone to shut the fuck up around cops. don't make small talk, dont act friendly, don't fucking engage with them!! if you are arrested DO NOT speak without a lawyer present. protest organizers, get into contact with local pro bono lawyers who can be there for your arrested comrades. no matter what, if cops are there, shut the fuck up unless you are actively doing a protest chant. dont tell cops why you were there, dont tell them if you're affiliated with the school you may be protesting at, dont tell them if you came there with anyone, dont tell them anything!!!

important ! In recent years especially this year I’ve noticed a lot that the internet language picked up so many Islamic phrases and, from a muslim perspective, it makes the internet a little more welcoming. the thing is, a lot of the time with Islamic phrases you have to be careful about when and where to say them they hold their own weight and demand their own respect so here is a list explaining each phrase and some notes about it.
In sha allah
It means “ If God wills “. Muslims say it because we’re unaware of what future holds it’s actually blasphemous to claim to know the future, so saying so means “ If it’s the will of god it will happen if not it won’t “ and you’d say it about future events. side note, it’s also a polite way of saying No. for example, someone asks you to do something and you say in sha allah. Technically you’re not saying yes or no, and if it’s not in god’s will it won’t happen.
Ma sha allah
It means “ this is what god intended “ and it’s a compliment. Saying so is like saying WOW! But it’s also kind of a prayer of protection? If I see someone with pretty hair I should say “ Ma sha allah your hair is very pretty “ the ma sha allah protects the person from the evil eye. By saying that I’m also saying I’m not jealous I’m genuinely enamored and I don’t wish any harm to go to it.
Astagfurullah
it means “ to god I repent “ or “ from god I seek forgiveness” it’s usually used when you make a mistake but people also use it when they see something bad or when they want to avoid saying something bad. Like once my card refused to work and I’d say that so I won’t say any curse words and to calm down my anger
wallah/wallahi
okay this one is important. This one shouldn’t be used so lightly. It means “ by god’s name “ and it’s basically swearing in Allah’s name. You are only supposed to say it if you genuinely mean what you’re saying. It’s such a heavy word that I only say it very rarely and if you say it and don’t follow up on what you said you have to fast for three days as repentance.
One more note is that with the name of Allah you should also be careful it’s not supposed to be written on papers that’ll get stepped on or lightly used in art because it also has its own weight it’s regarded heavily. Like even in home decorations it should be elevated and not overshadowed. If I have to throw away a paper I have to sit down and color over the name of Allah or burn the papers so it won’t get thrown in trash.
another note is that those phrases aren’t Muslim exclusive. Some Arab non-Muslims use them as well. This is only my explanation from a Muslim perspective.
Another another note is this is what I can remember at the moment but if you have additions or enquiries let me know

heLLO!!! YOUR ART-!!!!!!!
how do you draw fat so beautifully???? i want to get better! your work makes me feral!!!!
hiii omg yes to getting better at art!!
uhMMMM God i always find any variation of this question super difficult to answer because there is no quick trick....its practice and studying references....
idk i guess ive simply been chubby ever since puberty hit so i am intimately aware of how a certain amount of fat sits on a body already? and honestly at some point i was like....okay i already stare at the mirror scrunching my nose at how my arm looks bigger and flabbier when i have it pressed against my body, might as fucking well learn something about it and use it in art.
its just a lot of observation and just really LOOKING at how fat folds work and not just assuming you know how they work. the other day i was mid-cuddle with my gf and i had an aha! moment about how breasts and those little chub bits at the apex of your armpit work together. my brain just does that in the bg i guess
but, for a concrete example. i wanted to draw aziraphale kind of tucking her chin to her chest. i know, from having looked at gifs and pictures, that this is what michael sheen's chin/neck does in that position:
Tumblr media
do you see the V of his chin elongating up into the cheeks? and how there isnt really a visible jawline but fold of fat?
voila
Tumblr media
its not a perfect replica, but my aziraphale isnt a perfect replica of michael sheen either, even if it is heavily based on him.
BOTTOM LINE (and a bit of a tangent): drawing fat is not easy a) bc a lot of reference material doesnt even cover it and b) because it is a personally loaded topic for some. but if there is ONE takeaway ive learned it's that: draw what you see. even if you think it looks cringe, even if you dont associate it with being attractive, even if you are insecure about it on your body. it gets easier.
look at that triple chin!!! by all accounts this is not a face we usually associate with erotica but ill be damned if this is not the face of someone really really into what they are doing right now. and thats attractive. so, draw the weird fat flaps and thrive <3
