I love Star Trek with a burning passion and there aren't enough people in the real world my age to talk to about it so I thought I'd give tumblr a try and then became upsettingly obsessed. It is definitely an issue in my life. I also have become obsessed with Marvel and just started reading the comics, beginning with young avengers and it is fantastic and a problem so message me if you want to talk Young Avengers or have suggestions for what I should read next

are you having fun coming up with elaborate worldbuilding/character justifications for inconsistent writing, or are you desperately trying to convince yourself and everyone that the text makes perfect coherent sense actually and you are uncovering the deep truth of what the author meant all along and anyone who criticizes it is Wrong

Rewatching amok time so now I’m mad about the T’Pring /Spock relationship in SNW again (and also voyager a little for what they did to Ponn Farr)
#st:tos#like let’s leave out that the way the act around each other is often incredibly unvulcan#like the full on makeouts instead of quiet touches#but amok time literally says it’s an arranged marriage by their parents#while SNW has her family disapproving of the match#because he’s half human#as if they didn’t know that when he was born!!!#it’s acted like she had a choice#when again it’s clear in TOS the only choice she had was to call for ritual combat#and they act like they got engaged in episode one#when Spock says in Amok time they’ve been more than engaged since they were children#and I’ll never forgive voyager for making the combat enough to end Pon Farr#it’s definitely close to fitting with the Amok time canon than SNW#but it makes that last line of Amok time not make any sense in context#like if it was known ritual combat released pon Farr why would Spock not just say that#instead of acting like what happened was surprising#I guess you could claim that since no one had done ritual combat in a long time that it was forgotten#and between tos and voyager it becomes more common and the phenomenon more known#or maybe post Spock it was researched#but it is a stretch

Sometimes you have to take a step back and remember that same-sex marriage has only been legal in America for ten years.

im going crazy you have GOT to decouple romance/amatonormativity and marriage in your mind. you have GOT to understand that marriage is a legal document that protects you from exploitation especially if you are a woman or a stay-at-home anything. it is not some evil unique to heterosexual people. it is a legal document that says 'this is who i want in my hospital room when i die, this is who i want to have my stuff when i die, THIS PERSON OWES ME RECOMPENSE IF THEY KICK ME OUT OF THE HOUSE I LIVE IN"
You are not immune to being taken advantage of by your partner if you are queer. do not wind up homeless because your garbage live-ins name is on the lease and they decided to drop you like hot coals.
#this is actually the hill I’ll die on#I HATE when people say marriage isn’t important#or it’s just a legal document#like you cannot understand it’s not#it’s full of rights and protections#and they are important#yeah some of those rights can be guaranteed with other paperwork#but for you to “not define your relationship on a piece of paper#you better be defining it on several others like a HCP

Someone was asking in a thread what kind of people could work for ICE right now.
I think it's a good time to remember that the image above are the people who put children into gas chambers.
When I was little, I asked what kind of person could work at a concentration camp.
The answer to both questions I think is "normal people who have accepted the dehumanization of another group of people."

"It doesn't help your credibility to exaggerate, most employers wouldn't literally work you to death" like, I used to work in distribution. If booking a truck driver for back to back shifts until they fall asleep at the wheel, crash, and die counts as being worked to death, I have personally met employers who've worked employees to death and gotten away with a slap on the wrist. It may not be universal, but it's a hell of a lot more common than a lot of us would prefer to think.
#tell me you don’t know anything about workers rights without telling me you know nothing about workers rights#there are SO many laws in basically all industries because companies were working people to death#that’s the only reason it doesn’t happen now
