Here are my pieces for this year’s @capri-bigbang2k21 This year was a reverse bang and so I got to do the prompting! I came up with a vague idea for a modern au kidfic and @captiveprince1984 wrote an AMAZING fic out of it. There’s cats and Damen being a Sports Dad and healing from trauma, what more could you want?

Delighted to finally share my first work for the Captive Prince reverse Big Bang, 2021 @capri-bigbang2k21!

As a child I read and reread Favorite Greek Myths by Mary Pope Osborne many times, mainly because I was entranced by Troy Howell’s vivid and emotive illustrations. This picture of Damen and Laurent is based off Troy Howell’s painting of Cupid and Psyche from that book.

I thought a story about Damen and Laurent inspired by the legend of Cupid/Eros and Psyche would well suit their characters. Like Psyche, Laurent has good reason to mistrust, and has the expectation of having to rely entirely on himself. Both characters are willing to resort to violence. Both are wrestling with their confusion about their growing attraction to the person they also fear the most.

I love the moment captured in Troy Howell’s painting when Psyche sees Eros for the first time under the lamplight and realizes maybe everyone hasn’t been entirely telling her the truth, and Eros is about to wake up to see her holding the dagger meant to end his life. I wanted to recreate that pivotal moment in a Damen/Laurent AU, and @thelibrarina took on the challenge and built an entire world around the image.

This was my first time joining the Captive Prince fandom for a fest - I fell into the fandom by accident when I kept confusing fan art of Damen and Laurent for some sort of historical Drarry AU (incidentally also how I got sucked into Yuuri on Ice). I’m glad I discovered the series, which I found impossible to set down, and hope you enjoy my and @thelibrarina's additions to the fandom.
