Planning an Awesome Trip to Leh Ladakh in 2022
Tumblr media
Because it has recently become such a popular travel destination. Everyone I have spoken with India only intended to ride a motorcycle to Leh Ladakh. As a result, it made me a little less inclined to travel there as I like less commercial places. But it wasn’t until I had the opportunity to go there in person as part of a cooperation that I truly appreciated how fortunate I was.
Because I would have undoubtedly missed out on seeing one of India’s most beautiful hill stations if I hadn’t discovered this cooperation. Given the fact that I do not enjoy riding a bike, I did not do it that way like other people.
However, I did travel locally and had a true road trip in this section. And I discovered on my trip that Leh does actually have a lot to offer if you have the time.
I’ve covered all the crucial information in our Leh travel guide that will help you organise an amazing vacation to Leh Ladakh.
Plan a Trip to Leh Ladakh
Now, Leh Ladakh is all anybody seems to be talking about at once. However, very few individuals genuinely understand what it means. Ladakh is essentially a region of the northern Indian subcontinent that is currently a union territory.
But the Ladakh region is not just in India; it is also found in China and Pakistan. Now, Leh is actually just a city in the Ladakh region.
It is the largest town in Ladakh bike trip and is your starting point to explore this beautiful mountainous region.
How to Reach Leh
The main question at hand is how to get to Leh before moving on to the other regions of Ladakh.
Leh is the biggest town in the Ladakh region, as I have indicated.
As a result, it has easy access to transit to other locations like Srinagar, Manali, Spiti, and others. Delhi is approximately 1000 kilometres away, Manali 470 km, Srinagar 420 km, and so on.
Here are a few options for how you can go to Ladakh bike trip from your particular city.
Air
There is only one airport in Leh from which you can take a flight: Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport.
Different significant cities, including New Delhi, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Amritsar, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and others, are well connected to it. This route is also served by numerous airlines.
Therefore, getting a flight that will get you to Leh city won’t be tough. You may take a direct trip or a connecting aircraft to the city of Ladakh package, depending on your starting point.
Typically, if you don’t have much time and are travelling from a far city, taking a flight is a fantastic idea.
But keep in mind that while convenient, the flight to Leh is also very pricey.
Note: Flights to Leh often get canceled due to bad weather conditions. So, be prepared for this scenario as well.
Road
The most environmentally friendly way to get to Leh is by road if you don’t want to raise your carbon footprint.
The cities of Manali and Srinagar are both easily accessible from Leh.
You may therefore select any route that suits you. Here are a few different routes you can take to get to Leh city.
Motorbike
An very common way to get to Leh is via motorbike.
But if you’re not used to spending extended periods of time riding on motorcycles, let me tell you that this trip can be extremely taxing and uncomfortable. Although the road from Manali to Leh is passable, there are a few rough spots.
Don’t trust Google Maps; it could take you anywhere from 18 to 20 hours to get there from Manali.
This is due to the fact that you must pass via the Rohtang Pass, which might be challenging to cross. Additionally, you should drive slowly as you travel from Manali (2050 m) to Leh (5328 m) via Taglang La Pass (5328 m) and Rohtang Pass (3978 m) (3500 m). Driving from Srinagar, the rise is primarily gentle. So, you won’t really notice the consequences in this place. However, riding a motorcycle will still take you about 20 hours to get there.
Given that there is so much to see and do in Ladakh group tour, a visit there may be quite memorable.Additionally, there are so many breathtaking locations close to Leh that you’ll never get bored. However, be careful to thoroughly plan your vacation and reserve all of the appropriate accommodations in advance. Aside from that, Leh is a really secure place to travel and you will undoubtedly enjoy yourself.

Best Time to Visit Spiti Valley
Tumblr media
On the surface, Spiti valley is quite a remote place that is away from Shimla and tourist destinations. In fact, it is one of the best time to visit Spiti Valley. This is because of heavy rains and snow fall in Shimla area and interiors of Himachal Pradesh. The best time to travel to Spiti Valley also depends on your itinerary, where you are traveling from and destination! The beauty of Spiti Valley is beyond description.
The best time to visit Spiti Valley is generally April and May when the weather is pleasant and you can choose to trek between the villages or stay at a hotel in Tal, Manali or Kinnaur. You can also stop by at McLeod Ganj, the capital city of Himachal Pradesh where it’s lively with great shopping options and good food. You can travel to Spiti Valley all through the year and continues to Dharamshala.
Rohtang pass remains remaining open in the month of April to October, while Shimla — Kinnaur remains open. This is a comprehensive travel guide for trekkers visiting the road to Spiti Valley. In this article, I will try to share my inputs on the best time or season to travel the road to Spiti Valley bike trip or in other words what is the best time to visit Spiti Valley.
When is the best time for Spiti Valley road trip?
Spiti Valley is a land of high altitudes and alpine meadows. If you want to experience the beautiful world of Mother Nature, then Spiti Valley will be a great destination for you. You can reach Spiti Valley by two routes — one traverses the road from Delhi via Manali to Kaza, or other one goes via Shimla — Kinnaur Valley as Shimla — Kinnaur — Nako — Sumdo (Spiti Valley) — Tabo
Shimla to Kaza Route
The route via Shimla — Kinnaur is also known as NH-05. This is one of the best ways to reach Spiti Valley tour package and Kaza via Shimla. The highway remains open during the whole year as there are no high mountains that come in between. From Shimla to Kaza Route and via Kinnaur Valley is a popular route. There is no high mountain pass that comes on this route, it remains open throughout the year. You can make a journey to Kaza or Spiti via Shimla — Kinnaur all around the year because there is no high mountain pass that comes on this route.
Traveling to Spiti group tour, especially in the winter months, is not as easy as it reads. However, with the road conditions in winters on the Hindustan — Tibet highway being quite challenging and tough, one should be aware of them before planning a trip to this beautiful area. Traveling to Spiti Valley during winter is bliss, however extreme cold and cold winds can be devastating. Hence, if you are traveling to the Himalayas in winter and want some adventure experience, check our Shimla to Kaza Route.
Manali to Kaza Route
The Manali side of the road is not yet open till June month. You need to travel via Kullu route and then you will be able to reach Spiti Valley. However, you will have to face lots of snow fall or even blizzards during winter months in this region. Rohtang Pass first opens as early March and closes in May end. The route to Kaza is opened in June the first half of the year by which time the road is snow free. We recommend you book early if planning to travel via Manali side.
The Manali to Kaza route is one of the most beautiful, scenic and quite popular set of trekking routes in India. It is situated at an elevation of around 34,000 feet and also passes through some waterfalls and mountains. The trek covers a stretch of 18 to 19 km and takes about 5 hours to complete. If you want to cover every little point of interest in the Spiti bike trip circuit, this trip is for you! With a personal guide, it’s not only possible, but very easy to enjoy this journey with your family.
When is the best time to visit Spiti Valley?
Plan ahead to visit Spiti Valley in the month of February and March. The weather in Spiti Valley during these months is ideal for all kinds of outdoor adventures. Moreover, the valley’s marshes add to the beauty and make it easier to spot wild life. You can also enjoy the different season of this place from early October till January or February. Weather in Spiti Valley is always beautiful and clear. Winter is a season with low temperatures and clear sky. The weather in summer is mild and humid. The best time to travel to Spiti Valley is during spring and autumn.
Spiti Valley in January — February — March
The Spiti Valley is one of the most astonishing destinations you can visit. The road from Manali to Kaza is closed and the winter months are upon us when there’s a dense blanket of white snow all around you in Spiti. We recommend reaching base camp either in January or February, but March is better if you want to go in the morning.
It is advisable to go to Spiti Valley in January-February-March only if you are well prepared. During this time, the temperature of the valley can go well below 0 deg C, so proper clothing must be worn. As snowfall can happen any time during this period and road closures may occur due to heavy snow, you must make sure there are buffer days for routine maintenance tasks.

How to Travel through White Spiti Valley In Winters
The Spiti Valley is one of the most amazing travel destinations in the world. You will find no place similar to it. The valley sits at an elevation of 3200 ft. above sea level and gets very cold during winters with temperatures dropping below negative degrees Celsius. It remains mostly covered with snow during winters but there are places which remain green even in summers. It is also known as a “green-white” kingdom due to the presence of many forests, grasslands, and alpine meadows. The Spiti Valley is one of the most visited destinations in India with the view to adventure.
The Spiti Valley is located on the foothills of Himachal Pradesh, with an altitude of 12800 ft above sea level. It is surrounded by snow peaks, and it was an isolated place until recently few trekkers marked this place as a must visit spot. Specially if you are planning to travel to Spiti in winters or even during the summertime, you will get a chance to visit this place. Spiti tour package is known for its wonderful history, culture and adventure trails that can be explored during your winter travels. The best time to visit this place is from October to March but that does not mean it is only restricted for these months only.
There are many routes available for you to explore during any time from June through November. — Travelling to White Spiti, a place with spectacular views, amazing places and extreme adventure. You can travel through the entire Spiti via jeep or motor vehicles but if you wish to get an unforgettable experience then you have to travel on your bike. You can also take a day ride by using bikes. The winter season is the best time to enjoy your adventure through Spiti Valley.
Some of the other reasons like no good mobile connectivity, steep roads, water crossings, slush, acute mountain sickness and no traffic at all make this journey more challenging and adventures. Now keep this thing in your mind these factors are related to summer season.
On the other hand, if you plan this trip in winters, then this adventure can be tagged as “crazy”.
1 — How to prepare for a road trip to White Spiti Valley in Winters?
Let’s start discussing about each and every thing you will be require for the preparation of White Spiti.
Adventure: If you ask us what is White Spiti or Winter Spiti Valley tour package, our answer is “Adventure”. There is no other word which can describe a ride to spiti in winters. Don’t even think this trip is like your weekend gateway with friends or some family vacation trip. It’s not your regular trip, this is going to be a hardcore adventure trip from start until the end. So, you must prepare accordingly and prepare this entire trip from this perspective only.
Winter Spiti Route: As per the above explanations and warnings, it’s time to work out your itinerary. You can go through Jade Cultural Trek in winters or explore Kaza Village in summers. The two major passes “Kunzum Pass” and “Rohtang Pass” remain closed in winter. So, one cannot go through Shimla — Manali route in winters as roads from Manali to Kaza keep closed during the winter season.
You can head towards Shimla and drive down to Kaza village or start your trip from Shimla and reach Kaza via Rohtang Pass in first week of June each year.
Time: In Summer, you can reach Kaza from Shimla like in 2 days if you drive without taking much breaks. And if you want to see the beauty at its peak and want to enjoy the landscape with photography, then you need around 3 days to reach Kaza from Shimla. So basically, 3 days to reach kaza, 3 days to come back and 1 day to stay in Kaza.
Total 7 days of trip from Shimla to Shimla. The condition in winters changes like 360 degree from summer time. BRO keeps the road from Shimla to Kaza open for all 12 months, however, a fresh snowfall can block the way temporarily for a day or two as well. In fact sometime this blockage remains there for weeks as well.
Consider such situation while travelling to Spiti bike trip in winters. Such situation might add up more time in your planned days. To be honest, it’s not wrong to say, if you are planning for white spiti then consider it like 10 to 15 days of trip.

How to Travel to Spiti Valley in the Winters?
Tumblr media
The only way to reach Spiti in the winter is by road from Shimla via the NH-22 highway through Kinnaur. Rohtang Pass and Kunzum La are both closed in the winters, making travel from Manali an unviable option. Here are some tips on how to travel to Spiti Valley during the winters. It was a great idea to acclimatise to the cold and altitude of Peo before reaching the unbearable cold of Kaza at 3700m. The best way to visit the beautiful Spiti valley is by bus.
You will get to experience the scenic green valleys, teahouses, snowcapped mountains and the friendly locals. The bus will also be your connection with the rest of India. Book your ticket online and enjoy a comfortable journey. Discover the beauty and wonder of Spiti valley during the winters. Trains, jeeps and buses are the most preferred way of reaching this beautiful destination. You can also take a shared taxi from Rampur to Kaza (12 hours) for 1000- per seat, or make the return journey from Kaza to Rampur via this mode.
Weather Conditions and Important Precautions
As the air in Spiti is very cold and there is only little at high altitudes. It is great to rest a while there before proceeding further. As winter is approaching and temperatures drop, it’s important to take action. The Ladakh group tour winters are harsh, long and cold. By planning ahead, you can decrease the chances of suffering from altitude sickness and also reduce your risk of getting black-outs (prolonged lack of oxygen).
The most important way to prevent the development of altitude sickness is by wearing a face mask, mask and gloves to protect you from inhaling cold air. Traveling in the winter months can be drastically changing depending on where you are traveling from and to.
In order to keep the body warm, it is advised to take short walks and eat meals frequently. My guiding principle for drinking more water was to regularly consume water and butter tea. Additionally, I enjoy nuts and dark chocolate, and I always use them in the winter. Toilets have no water supply because all of the pipes are completely frozen.
In the majority of locations throughout the winter in Spiti tour package, traditional dry compost toilets are the sole option. I was careful to avoid using the restroom in the middle of the night when the cold air could cause problems by going only once before bed after dinner.
Ways to Travel Within Spiti
In Spiti, there are essentially no buses that run throughout the winter. The only option for transportation is to ride in shared taxis (campers or sumo) with locals; the frequency of these rides depends on the quantity of snowfall and the number of passengers. My favourite mode of transportation was a shared taxi, and the natives made sure I felt secure in their presence. Even if the cost of taxis in spiti valley packages during the winter is relatively high, it is also feasible to rent SUVs (Innova or xylo) for travel.
When you travel with locals, you can always enjoy the warmth of a homestay even in the iciest weather. By pure luck, I managed to locate a shared cab departing from Kaza bus station towards Losar. I had orally reserved a seat in advance for the same, as indicated by locals. Near the bus stop, there were also shared taxis that went to Pin Valley and other tiny settlements in Spiti. It is best to get advice and recommendations from locals.

Accommodation in Spiti in the Winters
In Spiti, the majority of guesthouses, homestays, and hotels are closed throughout the winter. There are only a few establishments operating, so it is better to consult the locals about your best lodging options. For winter lodging in Spiti group tour , prices per person, including food, will vary from 500 to 1500 Rupees.
In Kaza : Sakya Abode – owned by Tsering. Enquire at homestays near the bus stand in Kaza, a few of them are open in the winters too.
Langza, Hikkim, Dhankar, Demul, Komic, Lhalung, Tashigang : Tanzi Homestay in Langza is open. Anmo homestay in Lhalung. Komic Gompa in Komic. Most families in these villages live year round and thereby the possibility of homestays to stay.
Kibber : Norling Homestay is open in the winters. Kibber is a big village and families live there throughout the year, that means other homestays are open too. It may also be possible to persuade the monks to let you stay at Ki Monastery, even in the winter cold!
Shoes & Socks : Needless to say, this is one of the most important things to keep in mind for travel to Spiti in the winters. Shoes should be ice and snow proof and should have good traction for walking on slippery frozen surfaces.
