A Sense Of Time - Queens Park (location 02)
I love that every time I pass this bench in Queens park theres always a new person sitting at it, or a new feeling given by the quality of the light. The first image with the couple sitting on the bench was taken at 11.46am on Friday morning. The sun was shining, setting a romantic scene across the brightly lit park. I think the images contrast each other in terms of the moods they give off.
The first image theres a feeling of romance and love.
The second image with the individual sitting on the bench was taken at 12.34pm on Sunday. I feel like this image contrasts the first, whilst they also compliment each other. I think the exact same location and the bright greenery allows them to sit side by side and work together, while they create different moods. The weather is more overcast, with flat light in the second image which creates a feeling of contemplation, as does the solo figure.

A Sense Of Time 02
Queens Park Flagpole:
Tumblr media
12PM vs 10pm
My original plan was to go up to the QP flat pole when the light had faded and the city would be lit up, however because of the time of year the light doesn’t fully go until about midnight. I went up at 10pm to see how the light would be and how different the view would seem. As you can see it was still too light to get the effect I was after. The main difference was the appearance of the sky and the environment being darker. One thing I can talk about with the different times of day is that even though there was still light as I was walking through Queens Park to the location, I felt more discomfort. There was a path that I walked that was more secluded and during the day, when I visited the location  the first time, I felt safe and comfortable. However, going back in the evening time, even with bright light at the time, knowing it was late, it brought a different feeling. A feeling of being unsafe. Theres a feeling of fear that can come with the nighttime, regardless of the light, when walking by yourself through a park.

A place that is familiar to me is up at the flagpole in Queens Park. It is a common walk to spot and from there you can see out over the city. My plan is to revisit this location as the light falls to get a contrast image where you can see all the lights from the city among a dark sky. I first visited the location at 12pm.

A Sense Of Time
I took the picture of the bluebells in full bloom in a garden close to where I stay. Exactly a month later I took the same photograph at the same location. The first photograph was taken at 8pm and the second at 12pm.
I think these two photographs side by side show the dramatic change in nature in a short space of time. Things are always changing. It’s the cycle of life.
To me, this is still landscape photography as it is a detail within an outdoor landscape, just maybe a more conceptual take on the brief. It is a clear demonstration of the changes that occur over time within nature.
I took the photographs on my phone. In one of our winterfest talks Simon Murphy quoted ‘the best camera is the one you have on you’. I absolutely agree with this sentiment. It is what allowed me to capture this moment and many more.

Landscape Interrupted
Tumblr media
7th June, ‘22
The weather was beautiful and bright so I went a big walk into town and took my camera, with the goal of capturing my landscape interrupted brief. I came across this basketball court just down the road from Eglinton Toll. I had never been this route before so I didn’t know that the court was there but I immediately was drawn to the bright colours and how vibrant it looked in the sunshine. Here we have a man made build in amongst greenery. I think it’s funny how you have a structure in the middle of nature that has a fake grass like ground, like it’s ‘mimicking nature’.
In terms of framing, I like how the bush and tree frames the court in the picture; Nature wrapping around structure as if fighting back for it’s space.

Landscape Interrupted
I didn’t have to edit this photograph that much as I liked the exposure and vibrant colours.
I opened up my image in photoshop and on an adjustment layer I opened curves and increased the whites and added a tad of contrast.
Tumblr media
The colours in photograph were already quite bright and vibrant but I increased the saturation a little by +6.

That was all the adjustments I made for my Landscape Interrupted photo.

Evaluation - Macys Shoot
Overall I think the project was a good experience as it is important to go out of your comfort zone and work on a project that you wouldn’t have set up yourself out with college. I found it to be quite challenging at times as the communication was quite poor between the group. Working with several different individuals can be a challenge as we all have different schedules and different opinions.
One of the issues I came across was getting unwell and having to isolate, meaning I missed being present at the shoot and taking photographs. However I was pleased with my ability to adapt and problem solve by tasking myself with photo editor, so that I could still be involved and pass the project.
I think the photoshoot was a success in the end and there was some nice photographs that were produced from the shoot.
Some of my favourite images from the shoot:

After we had done the shoot and sent over the edited images it was over to the cali students to make their magazines for their final uni project. We offered to help or any advice in the designing of it but they didn’t need it.
Overall, I feel like the planning of the project could have been smoother and easier but we found it difficult to organise the shoot with six peoples work/life schedules.
