You’re paying a bit extra for the light show, so if you prefer a more standard looking subwoofer enclosure, there are other options, but if you enjoy the look of this, and are looking for a very affordable place to get started, you can build a really nice system with this at the heart of it.

The first subwoofer we’re featuring is not for everyone, but if you like the way it looks, it offers some pretty incredible value and a very unique style. Some people want something a little more subdued, or simply don’t care about appearance since they’re not going to have their trunks open to show off their system.
This is an awesome system that’s a notch above bare entry-level, and the unique enclosure with glowing lights and plexiglass almost makes it look more like a gaming computer than an enclosure.
Now, it’s worth pointing out that despite the aesthetics, this isn’t the most elite subs out there. It does take 600w RMS so it’s no slouch, and it claims to hit as low as 30Hz (mind you, not at the loudest volume when you start getting that low.)

All that’s missing is an amplifier, and your favorite songs. It’s big, it’ll take up a good chunk of your trunk space, but it’s well worth the sacrifice if you’re looking to add some great bass to your car without breaking the bank.

If you saw that first option and want something a little more subtle, where every single penny is going towards extra power and performance, but you’re still looking for great value at a good entry-point… here it is. This is the subwoofer set for you.
Part of the Terminator Series by MTX Audio, the TNE212D is a more traditional dual subwoofer enclosure with a pair of very nice drivers installed. You just need to hook it up to an amplifier that can dish out 200-400w RMS at 2 ohms.
The frequency rating is 37Hz on the low-end, which is more than others we’ve looked at, but we always like to remind our readers at 37Hz at a good, strong volume is always better than something that can hit 30Hz at a whisper quiet volume.
These subwoofers come installed in a classic enclosure with MDF and carpet, nothing fancy but it’s very sturdy and gets the job done

Now it’s time to look at some heavier-hitters. We’ve looked at a few less expensive options that come complete with the enclosures, all wired up and ready to connect to your amplifier, but now let’s look at a standalone subwoofer. You’ll need to find an enclosure to pair up with this subwoofer, but if you’re willing to roll your sleeves up that extra little bit, and to spend a bit more here, you’ll get a lot of bang for your buck.
American Bass is bringing some serious muscle to the table with this offering. The cone is kevlar-enforced, but we don’t recommend using it for target practice. With the ability to comfortably accept 1000w RMS, with 2000w max, you can have the dual voice coils of this sub dancing around like crazy inside of it’s cast aluminum basket.
This sub needs just about 8 inches of depth in order to mount it, and weighs nearly 40 pounds so it’s got some serious weight to it. This is a very impressive sub from an up-and-coming brand that hasn’t been around for as long as some of the others on this list, but that have already been making big waves in the world of sound. One of the advantages in dealing with a brand that isn’t a multi billion dollar worldwide corporation is that it’s easy to get help when you need it, and there is some great value to be had because their operating costs are a lot lower than mega-corporations, and they’re able to be a lot more agile and to push things forward at a faster rate.
In other words, we don’t necessarily see a ton of innovation coming from some of the huge brands, it’s more about keeping things chugging along. This is why it’s exciting to see options like the Bio 2.0 from CT Sounds.
This sub won’t break the bank or chew into your budget, but it will bring you the bass you’re searching for. You’ve got a ton of wiring options with the dual voice coil, so you can easily string this subwoofer together with additional subs, and you’ll have no problem finding an amplifier that can handle whatever configuration you’ve got in mind.
The high-quality magnet allows this sub to react quickly while maintaining a clear, clean sound. It can handle a max of 500w with an RMS rating of 250w. Make no mistake, pair up a couple of these with a good amplifier and the correct subwoofer enclosure and you’re going to feel it.

Let’s change things up a bit and go a different route for this next recommendation. If you know anything about car audio, you’ve heard of Rockford Fosgate.
This time around, they’re offering up a loaded subwoofer, which means that the speaker itself comes pre-installed into an enclosure, which also has an amplifier built-in. Going this route means that you don’t have to worry about matching up your amplifier and your sub, nor building/buying an enclosure and having to measure it to make sure it’s the correct size.
Basically, Rockford Fosgate offers the P300-12 for people who want to boost their audio system’s bass capabilities as easily as possible, and quite affordably, too.
Unlike some of the more compact underseat or free air subwoofer configurations we’ve featured in the past, this one still has a decent size to it, which means you’ll get deeper bass frequencies and better volume, and better overall sound, since the bigger enclosure gives you more control over the movement of air, and that’s what bass is all about.
Instead of all of the above, you’ll only need to run power to this enclosure, a ground wire, and a source cable to connect it to your stereo. Despite the ease of installation and the all-in-one nature of this product, it brings you excellent sound quality and volume that’s been fine-tuned to optimize all 3 of the pieces of equipment to make them work together (subwoofer, enclosure, amplifier), which isn’t always easy to do if you’re getting each piece on its own.
Now, there is a ceiling to loaded subwoofers like this, and you do pay a bit of a premium in some cases, but for the average listener who wants to fill out their sound, and isn’t looking to compete in any bass competitions or to go too hard, this sub can absolutely bring the thunder.  
You’ll just need to get a simple wiring kit to connect this loaded subwoofer to your car’s electrical system and audio source and you’re off to the races

Here’s a budget subwoofer from Pioneer with some high-end specs behind it. If you just looked at the numbers, you’d think this was a real heavy hitter. It’s not the greatest sub out there, we’d probably take the Bio by CT Sounds above this for just a bit more money, even though the Bio doesn’t handle as much peak power (which really doesn’t matter).
The peak or max wattage doesn’t tell the whole story, it’s not just how much power the subwoofer can accept, but what it does with that power.
For a 12” subwoofer in an average car audio setup, 300w RMS is going to get the job done. If your amplifier choice can handle it, you may want to consider grabbing two of these. Keep in mind that your wiring options are going to be more limited with this single voice coil, it just means you’ll have to plan things out better ahead of time since there isn’t as much leeway to change your plans once you’ve got things started.

The general response to the Anarchy by Planet Audio is “Wow, I didn’t expect it to sound that good.” It’s not a perfect subwoofer, but we can overlook some of the areas that it lacks in by taking into account that it’s priced accordingly, and still infinitely better than not having a subwoofer at all.
This is a fantastic starting point for someone on a budget who wants enough cash leftover to buy a decent enclosure, and an amplifier, and doesn’t mind rolling up their sleeves and putting everything together themselves.

This dual voice coil subwoofer from Planet Audio gives you a lot of options and versatility. You can pair it up with a monoblock amplifier, with another identical sub, and even other styles of amplifiers. The DVC opens up a lot of doors, or you can keep things simple, too. It’s your call.
It boasts a realistic 32Hz on the low-end, but you have to dig a bit to find the RMS wattage. This product can handle an RMS wattage of 900w, depending on how you’ve got it wired up. 900w is plenty, especially compared to some of the other options on this list, but you’ve also got to keep in mind that this is a budget subwoofer so you probably want to pull back a bit and not drive it at a hard 900w all the time, it’ll help increase the longevity. If you want something you can push that hard, consistently, you’ll probably want to look at some higher-end options.
Having said that, this sub sounds great for the price. More experienced bassheads will be able to notice where it falls short with some more nuanced listening, but for most people, you’ll feel the hard bass hitting and be more than happy.

We’ve taken an in-depth look at all sorts of different subwoofer configurations to help our readers make informed decisions. From massive competition subwoofers, to modest underseat units, we’ve seen it all… but some of the most unique car stereo setups involve free air subwoofers. With a free air sub, you don’t have to buy or build an enclosure.
Going this route saves you some trunk space. Instead of needing an enclosure, you’re using the whole of your trunk instead, which means you can still fit nearly just as much in your trunk, because you won’t have a giant, heavy, wooden box taking up room.

This particular subwoofer offers an amazing value for anyone who is looking for a big upgrade over their stock audio, but without committing to a massive, expensive setup.
This subwoofer works great in an enclosure, but if you’re looking to free up more trunk space and to take advantage of the other benefits of going the free air route, it is up to the task. This is one of the best deals in car audio when it comes to entry-level gear that’s going to make a huge difference. This package comes with two of the CS1214 subwoofers from JBL, so you can set them both up as free air subs, and get a lot more movement than you normally would with just one. On top of that, they’re both twelve inches, which is plenty big to make a serious impact.
Once again, it’s a totally viable strategy to start with a simpler free air configuration to test the waters and see how you like it (especially with a pair as inexpensive as these), and if you decide that they just aren’t giving you that oomph you’re craving, adding an enclosure will likely take care of that. It’s a good path to take in terms of upgrades, but also having something that hits in the meantime.

Let’s be totally upfront here. If you aren’t looking for an absolute bargain, and willing to sacrifice quality in the name of getting the lowest price possible, this one is worth skipping. For all intents and purposes, this is not a great subwoofer until you factor in the fact that it costs about as much as ordering a pizza.
We recommend it for someone who wants to experiment, maybe you’re wiring up your first subwoofer and you want to do a trial run in case something goes wrong or just for practice, or if you’re looking to play around.
It’s not super well made compared to most of the other options, it’s not going to push as much air around, it’s not going to handle power as well, but it is rated for 400w RMS which definitely gives it more push than you’d expect for the price.
Here’s the deal, don’t buy this subwoofer and expect peak performance for years to come. This gorgeous looking subwoofer is just incredible. It’s rated for 400w RMS with a peak of 1600w. Unlike some of the shallow mount subwoofers, this one has some more depth to it.
This is a fantastic choice for free air subwoofer systems because of that extra depth and the way it’s built. In the grand scheme of things, it’s not the same as having an enclosure, but if you’re going the free air route you may as well go with something that’s this well-suited to it.
This subwoofer handles the power very well, and it’s well above some of the more entry-level options we’ve featured previously on this list. It’s a great compromise if you want solid bass and you also want to go free air, it fits in that exact segment of the market perfectly and it’s easy to recommend if you’ve got the space for it.

Here’s another fantastic subwoofer from Infinity, this one is meant for a shallow mount, so it’s not as deep as the previous. It’s pretty light, at around 8 pounds, but it can still cause a bit of commotion.
This isn’t the craziest sub out there, you usually have to give up a bit of juice in exchange for the more shallow mounting capability. The nice thing here is that it’s a 12” sub, so you’re still getting a fair amount of surface area, even if it doesn’t have as much depth.
If you’re putting it in a setup where you’ve got the extra space, consider getting the Kappa model above, but if your space is more limited, this subwoofer is more than capable of getting the job done.
It really comes down to how much space you’ve got in your trunk for your subwoofer. Free air saves you room, and having this thin design saves you room, but it comes at a cost. It’s not physically possible for free air to hit as hard as something with a ton of power in a great enclosure.
On the plus side, free air is easier to power. This particular model is perfect if you want something thin, the top mount depth is only 3.25” so that gives you tons of options for mounting.

The Orion HCCA154 is not for the faint of heart, none of the subs on this list are. Picture an extra large pizza, and that’s how big this thing is. This is a building block for an insane car audio setup, but even if you’re only planning on using one subwoofer, this one will still be the craziest subwoofer that 99.9% of people that get into your car have ever heard.
This sub can handle 2000w RMS and 4000w max. You’re going to need a solid amplifier in place to power this beastly subwoofer, but thankfully there are a ton of powerful monoblocks that are suitable choices, and they aren’t as expensive as you might think… but anyone looking for a competition-grade 15” subwoofer probably isn’t worried about being as frugal as possible, so make sure you get yourself a proper amplifier and don’t cut corners in that department.

We often view Pioneer as a brand that delivers great quality in the entry to mid tiers, but can also hit it out of the park in their high-end product lines. In this case, this subwoofer falls somewhere in the middle of the pack. It’s far above the entry-level 12 inch subwoofers out there, but it’s also a notch or two below some of the heavy-hitter we’ve featured today.

This subwoofer is here specifically for people who see something like the Pioneer TSW311, but wish they could push a lot more power to it. As such, it’s going to get louder, it’s going to hit harder, but it’s not necessarily going to have better overall sound quality if you’re listening at more reasonable volumes.
Between the MOFO and the Pioneer, we are featuring two more entry-level choices when we’re talking about “competition subwoofers”, even if these last couple are more meant for personal use rather than trying to impress enthusiasts or to break SPL records.
This is the lightest subwoofer we’ve looked at today, coming in at just over 25 pounds. Weight doesn’t always tell the whole story, but it does start to paint the picture. When you’re getting a big 12 inch subwoofer that can handle 1350w RMS at such a lower price, obviously there are going to have to be certain sacrifices in other areas. Alternatively, taking the Pioneer for example again, the sacrifice in that case comes to the RMS rating being only 400w.

This is a component set of speakers, which give you a more complete soundscape than you’ll get from a simple coax set. It’s a little more work to install, and very well worth it. If that’s not what you’re looking for, something else on this list will be a good fit for you instead.

We’re very impressed by this pair of coax speakers from Polk because they offer quite a punch for the price. If you were to make no other changes except popping these in to replace some stock speakers, you would definitely hear a difference (But you’ll still want to strongly consider adding an amplifier to get louder volume and better sound out of them.)
These speakers are marine certified which means you can use them in boats, motorcycles, and other installations where they may come into contact with moisture or water, but we aren’t giving them extra points for versatility because it’s only relevant if you plan on using them in one of those applications. These speakers are made with Polypropylene and are UV resistant which, once again, only really matters if they’ll be exposed to the elements.
The simple drop-in installation process makes them fairly easy to install without any help, but if you haven’t done this before, you should definitely watch some videos first just to get the hang of it.

DS18 makes subwoofers that run the gamut from as budget as budget gets, all the way up to competition grade. Their EXL line represents the higher-end, peaking at 2500w, and gets down to 25Hz with the newer model.
We need to point out that the final sub on this list that we’ll be checking out in just a moment claims to reach 25Hz as well, but not all Hz are created equal, and the DS18 EXL-X15.2D sounds objectively better, so you can’t always rely on the specs to tell the full story. There’s a difference between being able to hit a frequency at a loud volume, or only being able to hit it whisper-quiet.
With that out of the way, the DS18 is a great alternative for someone who was looking at the Kicker 11S15L72 but was turned off by the square shape of it. This subwoofer is built like a tank. The dual voice coil gives you more flexibility for wiring your system. At 35 pounds it’s definitely heavy, but not the heaviest.
It’s big and powerful enough to easily replace a pair of 10” or 12” subs with just one 15”.

The first thing you’ll notice is that the Planet Audio AC15D is considerably lighter than some of the other beasts we’ve featured here. It comes in just over 15 pounds, compared to some that are upwards of 50. That’s going to leave you with a significantly less dense, less powerful, and lower quality output.
Just because it’s in the budget-tier, it doesn’t mean it’s a bad sub, it just means you get what you pay for. You can’t reasonably expect this to perform the same as a sub that costs 10x as much, but if this is what you’ve got room for in your budget, then it’s a good choice in this price range.
Peak power of 2100w and a frequency response of 25Hz is nothing to scoff at, but keep in mind that not all power ratings or frequency response charts are created equal, either. 25Hz on a competition-grade sub is not going to sound the same as 25Hz on a budget subwoofer, so it’s all about managing your expectations.

There’s something to be said about getting the biggest subwoofer that you can possibly stuff into your trunk, and letting it loose with a giant amplifier.
But do you really need the same size sub you’d have in a huge home theater, for your small vehicle?
We’re making a few small assumptions with some of these recommendations, namely that you are looking for some excellent bass to round out your favorite music in the car, but you aren’t looking to go completely overboard or to spend a fortune.
Generally speaking, if you wanted to invest a lot and to get competition SPL, you would be looking at something larger than a 10”. Adding an amplifier really isn’t that much more complicated than having an enclosure with a built-in amp, in the grand scheme of things. If you’ve been skimming this list thinking, “I don’t want the easy option, I want some killer bass,” it’s finally your time to shine.
The P3D4-10 by Rockford Fosgate doesn’t come with an amplifier, it doesn’t come with an enclosure, you just get the 10 inch subwoofer itself and you’re responsible for the rest. You’ll need to build or buy an appropriate enclosure, you’ll need to get an amplifier for it, but in the long run it’s worth the effort.
You can get one of these, or even two of them to slap inside a double-enclosure. That versatility, along with the ability to upgrade or replace the amplifier if anything goes wrong, or to replace the sub itself and pop a new one into your enclosure, is a major advantage compared to getting all-in-one units.
Having separate components keeps the door open for upgrades and replacements, without having to replace the whole shebang. Granted, some of the all-in-ones are so cheap they’re more or less disposable, but you do pay a premium for the convenience and small form factor, both in terms of price and in terms of sound quality.

Here’s one more subwoofer where you just get the speaker itself, and you’ll have to track down your own amplifier and enclosure. In this case, it’s slightly different than the P3D4-10 we looked at from Rockford Fosgate, because this Pioneer product is designed to fit into a smaller enclosure.
It’s a shallow-mount sub, so it’s not as deep in size, making it more versatile, but you do miss out on some of the punch you’d get from a full-size subwoofer. Remember, in the 10 inch size, there’s always a trade-off.
This sub claims to hit as low as 20Hz, but that doesn’t mean it’s hitting 20Hz at a high volume. Pioneer doesn’t show a frequency response chart, but it’s safe to assume that the volume drops of drastically before it hits 20Hz.
That’s to be expected, and we just wanted to give some context to those numbers, since they can be a bit misleading at times when you’re trying to compare subwoofers. If you can find something that hits 30-35Hz with high volume in your price range, it’ll almost always sound better than something that can go lower, but only at very low volumes.
Perfect option if you need a slim sub to fit into a tighter space but still want the benefits of buying the subwoofer on its own.

It only takes a few minutes of using it to see how much thought went into the implementation of different features, and the overall ease of use. The touchscreen is a dream, it’s very sensitive and we didn’t find ourselves fighting with it at all. This is important when you’re on the road and you need information fast.

The hands-free functionality works great, it doesn’t feel like a chore or a hindrance to control things while staying safe and keeping your attention on the road. Being able to make calls and control audio streams hands-free is a big plus because you don’t have to pull over to take a call, nor do you have to try to discreetly select a new song with your phone on your lap at a red light.
Sony reminds us why it’s nice to have the extra double DIN space for a big screen by allowing you to connect your reverse camera, if you have one. The 7-inch screen is quite a bit bigger than most cellphones, making it super easy to lookup maps, see what’s going on in you camera, and more.

Pioneer is one of the rare brands that manages to serve both the higher and lower ends of the market when it comes to audio. They can go from making incredible budget speakers like their home theater line designed by Andrew Jones, but they can also take off the gloves and go all-in like with this head unit.
This is Pioneer’s most feature-packed and best quality deck from 2016. Like the Kenwood DNX994S deck that also appears on this list, this one isn’t the latest year’s release which presents a perfect opportunity to save a ton of cash while still getting a flagship deck.
One thing that can get really frustrating with some touchscreen head units is when you’re sitting there, trying to use the navigation, and the screen isn’t responding to you. With a capacitive display, controlling the Pioneer AVIC-8200NEX feels almost exactly like using the touchscreen on your smartphone, and the interface is familiar in that same way.
It really feels like having a top-tier navigation system was a priority when designing this deck.
Apple Carplay and Android Auto work but you’ve got to plug in via USB (which isn’t uncommon), but wireless car controls are obviously better when they’re available.
The first time that you use Siri to send a text message using your voice is pretty exciting, we’re always on board for anything that makes driving safer.
We appreciated the auto EQ mic input that hides behind the display, it’s nice to get everything EQ’d properly with the wizard, especially for people who don’t have a trained ear to be able to do this manually.

Alpine is one of the leading brands in car audio, and you would be hard pressed to find any list of top car stereos that doesn’t include at least one of their offerings. Anyone who installs car audio has put in hundreds, if not thousands, of Alpine head units. When you’re getting name-checked by NWA, you’re probably doing something right.
Right off the bat, this deck works great with Apple Carplay and iPhones, but the results can be mixed with Android. If you’re an Android Auto fan, it might not be worth the risk, but if you’re in the Apple ecosystem then it’s full steam ahead.
This stereo supports a ton of different audio sources from Spotify, Bluetooth, Pandora, AM/FM Radio, iPod, HDMI, SiriusXM, and HD Radio. To be fair, the vast majority of high-end head units that we’re featuring today can also support these formats.

Keeping in mind that a great deck can last you for many, many years… does it really matter if you don’t have it during the first couple of years that it’s released? As long as all of the features you need are there, and it has the correct connectivity, this is a bullet-proof way to get a great deck for much less expensive. You also have the advantage of knowing that this head unit has been around the block a few times, and has stood the test of time.

The first thing to catch your attention is the style of this unit. It’s one of the most aesthetically pleasing head units that we’ve seen in quite a while.
The screen is a bit smaller than the standard 6.9 or 7 inches, coming in at 6.4 inches. You don’t miss the extra size, it’s mostly occupied by the buttons to the left of the screen, and those buttons are fantastic so it’s well worth trimming a bit off at the side to make room for them.
Another plus is that the CD/DVD drive is right at the front, instead of hiding behind the screen, which makes it easier for people who are changing CD’s or DVD’s more often.
Now, if you’ve moved past physical media and will be streaming from your phone instead, there’s another model, the AX100, that doesn’t have CD/DVD, and also lacks XM Sirius.

Right off the bat, we have to mention that this is a more affordable option, and you get what you pay for. Don’t get the wrong idea, this is a solid unit if you’re looking to spend a bit less and still want something above-average with a decent set of features. For starters, the touchscreen is a noticeable step down compared to the other Pioneer decks, but for the most part it still holds its own.
There are some quirks to this device, as you would expect from something in a lower price range. For example, Mixtrax is a feature that adds in extra sounds, effects, and transitions while you’re listening to your music. It’s hard to imagine anyone that invests in great aftermarket stereo equipment being okay with a “feature” that messes around with their music like that.
With that said, even a mid-tier Pioneer deck is going to blow the budget brands that try to do everything (and don’t execute any of it well) right out of the water. If you have sticker-shock after looking at some of these flagships, the MVH-1400NEX is a very suitable candidate.
We’re impressed to see that it supports DVDs, since plenty of higher-end units don’t have that capability anymore. Some brands are phasing this out, or only offering it on select models, as people turn away from physical media.

 What are flagship model double DINs? :
Most of these are what we describe as a flagship model, which means it’s the marquee offering from that particular brand, for that particular period of time. These are the head units where manufacturers don’t pull any punches. It’s a chance to show off their latest technology to consumers who are looking for the very best.
Flagship models will often allow you to easily add a tuner for SiriusXM, to connect 1 or 2 cameras, to control Bluetooth features with your voice, to connect Apple Carplay and Android Auto (however some work better than others).
Sometimes, they’ll have support for FLAC and other premium audio formats. You’ll often be able to stream from your favorite music apps like Spotify and Pandora.
Most of the aforementioned head units have most of these features, even if we didn’t list all of them for each and every deck. We focused on highlighting the features that each deck excels at the most, to make it easier to choose one based on your priorities.
What about some of the budget brands out there? :
There are some brands out there selling head units for surprisingly low prices. These are always brands that nobody has heard of it, and even if the specs seem similar, the quality just isn’t there.
We’re talking about the BEST double dins today, and it’s expensive to make a top-quality flagship stereo. Some of the biggest brands in the world of audio are fighting neck-to-neck, and always trying to leapfrog the competition with incremental improvements. It’s just not fathomable for a no-name brand to come out of nowhere and sell anything even remotely similar for a fraction of the cost.
By sticking to leading brands like Sony, Pioneer, Alpine, and Kenwood you’re going to have reputable support if you run into any issues. They’re not going anywhere anytime soon.
There are too many horror stories of people using these off-brand stereos and running into all sorts of trouble. If you’re looking to spend a bit less, you can still find some decent lower-cost and mid-tier options from reputable brands (like the Pioneer MVH-1400NEX that managed to squeak it’s way onto this list as a value pick). You may miss out on some of the fancier features here and there, but it’ll be worth it to go with a reliable brand.
Will my steering wheel controls still work?
This depends on your vehicle, and compatibility with the deck you choose, but for the most part you can keep your steering wheel controls, you’ll just need an extra wiring kit.
What if your head unit controls things like climate, how your door locks work, etc?
Things get a little more tricky when we look at modern vehicles, because the head unit controls a lot more than just the stereo. There are a few ways to eliminate the static problem emanating from your speakers yourself. The multiple fixes available depends on what is making your speakers malfunction.
To get a better idea of how to fix the problem, it’s best to understand a bit more about how car speakers actually work. Next time you start to hear static, take the problem into your own hands.
How to Fix Static Noise from Car Speakers

    1. Start with Your Speakers :
    While there could be several reasons that your car’s speakers are emitting static rather than great sounding music, the best place to start is with the speakers themselves.
Factory speakers are usually the most basic type of speakers, so they tend to malfunction more quickly, especially if the music in the car has been played increasingly more loudly. They also run the risk of having been installed improperly.
Your speakers are most likely located on the dashboard of the car and in the doors. They are generally connected via soldering to speaker wires or what is called a spade connector. If they are in fact soldered, reheating the joint with a pencil-type iron will fix the problem.
However, if you find that the connection to the wiring was already faulty, this will give you the chance to rectify the situation. The wiring could also be loosened or severed and not properly connected to the solder joint. Getting inside the problem will allow you to see the best way to fix it.
On the other hand, if your speakers are connected via spade connectors, one way to fix the problem is with a wiggle test. The other option would be to sever the old connectors, replace the wires, and reconnect. This should solve the problem.
2. Fix Speakers with No Connector :
If your speakers are unconnected and still sound off, here are ways to fix them.
The simplest factor affecting them working properly is that the connection from the speakers to the music is poor or off. The first step to checking if this is the problem is by wiggling the wires. If that doesn’t seem to work, then you should disconnect the wires one at a time. Inspect the wires before reconnecting them.
    You can also look at the condition of your wires to solve the problem. If the wires are frayed, stripped, in pieces, or generally look in poor condition, they can be fixed. You can do so by removing the ends and re-striping the wires.
You can also “tin” the wires, which means you solder the strands and make them one again. This way they are easier to reconnect.
The reason that this will fix the quality of sound is because the old wires could be corroded and not able to amplify or transmit the sound properly. Repairing the wires will fix the static sound if that is the cause.
3. Check Your Speaker’s Cones :
    Your speaker might not just be emitting a static sound, there could also be a prevalent buzzing that comes from other parts of your speaker’s mechanics. This buzzing sound could be hinting at an issue with the cones or the parts that surround it. A conal issue is a deeper issue than that of stripped wires.
The best way to find out what the problem is is by looking inside the speaker. Once you remove the front of the speaker, you should inspect how the inside looks.
There is a cone inside that is essential to the quality of sound, and if damaged or bent, needs to be fixed or replaced. Look to see if the cone has a tear or puncture, which is likely the culprit of a buzzing noise.
You can re-cone your speakers with the help of an audio technician, but it’s best to simply replace the speakers entirely.
4. What About the Ground Loop? :
The sound coming from your speakers might not be a static, and it might not be a buzzing either. What kind of problem it could be is a ground loop problem.
This type of hum happens when the components in the speaker aren’t grounded correctly. Depending on your car and your speaker system, you might need to be using a shorter or heavier ground wire.
If that doesn’t seem to be the exact problem you are experiencing, there could be a bad connector to one of the patch cords of the speaker. What is recommended is to purchase and test a new patch cord in each of the outlets and turn the sound on to see which one isn’t working correctly.
It might seem tedious, but it’s the best way to find the root of the problem.
5. What if Nothing Works? :
If you find that none of the above fixes works for your speakers, there might be more complex issues causing the noise. One is something a little out of your control, which is interference from other mechanisms, power lines, and appliances interrupting the supply of sound.
The way to fix this is by buying a power bar and installing it in your car to stabilize the interference and make sure the interruption won’t happen again.
Another symptom that is beyond your control is a wireless interruption in your speaker system. This can be caused by wireless devices and radio signals, which you will have a harder time trying to get rid of.
There are shielded cables you can purchase which are thicker and more heavy duty to protect. They cost more than regular wires and will be a harder to hide or place in the car, but ridding your speakers of unwanted noises could be more important.
