can we please talk about the parallel between "i'm ok in see through skin, i forgive what is within, cause i'm in this house, i'm in this home, all my time" and "it's warm, the skin i'm living in. it creates and shapes what is within" and how of monsters and men open and close this album by proudly and openly saying "i love myself! i have no choice but to love myself because im stuck with me and at the end of the day i like who i am" and even though there are themes of mental illness and self doubt in beneath the skin more than any of their other albums they're still determined to tell us to love ourselves because life's too short and i love this album and i love of monsters and men and i love myself

im definitely being dramatic but i feel like all of omam's musical career has kind of been building up to where they are now. visitor borrowed themes from my head is an animal and beneath the skin, and was (i assume) written on a laptop like fever dream instead of an acoustic guitar, resulting in a similar style. in my opinion, though, it had an entirely different sound and energy than any other project they've released, and it felt like the introduction to something entirely new. destroyer feels kind of the same, in that the lyrics remind me a lot of beneath the skin, the composition, with raggi singing the verses, the INCREDIBLE BREATHTAKING SHOWSTOPPING harmony in the chorus, and the repetition towards the end of the song reminds me a lot of my head is an animal, and the more alt-pop style reminds me a lot of fever dream. but, again, even though i can track influences from their entire discography, it still feels like something they've never really done before. god im just so excited to see what they release next
