i’ve been smelling the ocean lately
it will come out of nowhere, on a breeze. most often at sunset when the sun dips west, towards home. the salty taste that hits the senses the moment you step out the doors of the san diego airport, the morning air heavy with fog that kissed me each california morning.
i’ve been smelling the ocean lately, smelling home.

there are times that i am almost certain i am a telescope.
times when i am stretched, extending and elongating.
looking farther than i should, unblurring the bright lights, making the mysterious, the frightening, seem tame.
times when i shut up, fold inside myself, unable to see, my eye piece hidden away.
i cant look at anything, except perhaps the shelf in the shed where i sit, unused.
i dont know what it is that folds me, that opens me. i am only a telescope.
