one buddie dynamic that is very interesting to me is how they go about giving information to each other. they are almost complete opposites

buck has never articulated how much eddie means to him (even though he shows him repeatedly!), but keeping information from eddie makes buck feel like he is lying. we see that in 7x05 when he doesn't even care about accidentally outing himself to maddie, but he is losing it over the fact he has not came out to eddie and told him that he was on a date with tommy.

meanwhile, eddie has told buck repeatedly how important he is to him (there's no one i trust more, you are not expendable, you do matter to me), but when it comes to big things, eddie is quick to hide them from buck. i said this in a previous post, but telling buck makes things real for eddie, so he tries to avoid it when he is avoiding how he is feeling about something (tying into eddie's repression). the panic attacks, the ptsd breakdown, kim, moving to texas, the texas job... eddie was just pushing through and being avoidant until buck knew about it. then in almost every scenario, as soon as buck found out, eddie had to confront the issue... break up with ana, therapy, end it with kim, etc.

i find it really fascinating they are polar opposites in this way. and how the things they are repressing within themselves are the things they keep from one another. eddie feels secure with his love for buck (even if he hasn't confronted HOW he loves buck), but he doesn't let himself feel most other things that cause big emotions. buck tells eddie everything, except his own feelings for eddie, which buck is avoidant of

it adds a layer to the blaze thing when eddie is moving because buck tells eddie everything... except when it comes to how he feels about eddie... and as we know, blaze was a symbol for eddie. 'you'd move for a dog?!' but eddie's betrayal was very real because it broke the pattern

Okay, the thing that pisses me off about the narrative that Eddie doesn't talk about his feelings and Buck is the one saying things that some fics keep trying to push while trying to shove Buck and Eddie into the Grumpy and Sunshine trope, is that while Buck is a yapper, there isn't a single thing Buck tells Eddie that can be read as a roundabout way tell Eddie how he feels. You can have my back any day? Eddie said it. There's nobody in this world I trust with my son more than you? Eddie. You act like you're expendable but you're wrong? Eddie. What you always do? Eddie. I don't know what I'm gonna do without you? Eddie. You do matter to me? Eddie. Right in front of you? Eddie. All the fucking lines we use were said by Eddie. Hell, even the I love you to the core was something Ryan said. Buck is the action guy. Carla, pushing his way back in after the lawsuit, the skateboard, stepping up with Chris, tracking down Charlie, renting the house. Buck acts and Eddie talks. It's why flying Chris from Texas is as impactful, because Buck is an act of service person through and through and words were not gonna solve the situation. And it's why Buck is the one who needs to use his words because Eddie always does. The other day, I was trying to make a set but I would need a moment where it feels like Buck is saying I love you without saying it, but there isn't a scene where Buck says something like that to Eddie, the closest I can get is a few scenes where he says something to Bobby and the "I don't have to want to sleep with everyone I have feelings for" that didn't involve him telling Eddie. Maybe the "I'm having more trouble dealing with the idea of you not being around than I like to admit". Why are we still saying Eddie is the one who's bad with words in the year of God 2025, 8 seasons in?????

something about buck being the first person maddie told about nursing school. maddie agreeing to run away with buck. maddie making sure that even when she couldn’t leave, buck knew exactly what kind of good and happy life he deserved even without her (via the note). when she thought she was just passing through, the first place she went after fleeing doug was to buck. maddie only telling buck that she was leaving when she was suffering with ppd. something about how maddie always reassures her little brother before they separate. and something about how maddie will always come back home to buck.
