Our class visit to Max 104.9 (local radio station)

Before leaving my expectations were; the building would be fairly big, lots of equipment. Very quiet, low music in the background and that there would be very few people.

My expectations were met, for the most part. The building was smaller than expected. There was light music playing from outside, there was a lot of equipment but only in the recording studio. They also had a very small staff of nine people.

Here are some questions that were asked;

Q: When do you pre-record? Is there a ‘’set day” to pre-record everything? Or do you pre-record everyday?

A: In the morning everything is live till nine o’clock, after that we pre-record and complete other duties.

Q: Have you ever had technical difficulties while being live “on air”?

A: Of course, anything can happen when we go live, we have to just stay professional and go with it.

I had a great time, it was an awesome experience!

misheard lyrics

Have you ever had a song stuck in your head that you thought you knew the lyrics but, later played the song and realized you were completely off? This is called a mondegreen or misheard lyrics.

This happened to me all the time when I was younger. For years, I thought the chorus of “Empire State Of Mind” by Alicia Keys was:

“In New York, concrete jungle where we dream tomatoe.”

Turns out, the lyrics were:

“In New York, concrete jungle where dreams are made of”

Why does this happen? There are probably lots of explanation for why this happens. For me, this happens most when I hear a song somewheres busy. For example, a grocerie store, there are so many things going on I don’t fully understand what the singer is saying.
