This person is oddly familiar... But to answer your question

Blocking someone means that you will not see them in world chat and so on

Like If I person A blocks person B I won't see them but someone like Person C will still see them in their view

However there's still a possibility that you might get matched with them in duels due to the relatively small player base (roughly 50k active players iirc) so unless you're a different tier from them be wary of that

Does the block function hide me from other players on my server?

Let me explain.

A few months ago someone added me in game because I was wearing the Ginny/Ron Yule ball outfit. I know it was for this specific reason because the first thing the person told me was about the outfit and how much they wanted it.

Let me be clear about something: I have dropped real money onto this game because is a way of escapism for me, but I’m NOT a whale that wastes thousands upon thousands.

The thing with this person is that they started bothering me with the old ‘woe me, I’m a ftp player’ and cool, I know I’m privileged enough to waste money in a silly Harry Potter mobile game, however I do work and bust my ass several times to be able to have disposable income for my silly hobbies that make me happy and gave me a reprieve from reality.

Eventually I made the mistake of feeling bad enough for them and gifted them the magic pass that was available during that season.

The sus behavior started when I told them that I was going to make them the gift, however something funny happen. My character was under the effects of the Polyjuice potion, so while the effect was active I wasn’t able to access the Magic Pass. I told the person that information and every five minutes they were constantly asking me if I was able to buy the pass.

When that was done I told them it was a one time thing. That I was a little bit uncomfortable but happy that they were happy at least.

Everything cool, no? No.

Fast forward around a week, we get a new Magic Pass with a new outfit, which honestly was more cute than the previous one. So I bought it for myself. What does this person told me the second the see me around the map wearing the cute new outfit? Paraphrasing: You got the new outfit, I also want it because is green like Slytherin, and the previous one is kinda ugly; you know the one that I gifted them.

I didn’t have words. I froze. I read that fucking message and got so angry. I decided to ignore it, because I suspected that the other person is young and that is why the are acting the way they are doing since the beginning.

An hour passes, more or less, and because this person realize that I didn’t acknowledge their comment, even though I have been running around the map, playing, they decided to apologize. I directly told them their message made uncomfortable and that’s why I didn’t answer, you know because I don’t want to be an asshole.

The problem continues with every single event that involves outfits. The current wheel, I got everything with a small number of spins. I was so happy because of my luck that I made another mistake, shared the news on the global chat without realizing that person was there. Immediately they started to low key complain to me that they didn’t get anything cool with their spins, and I kinda read it like “why was I been lucky but not them” like I didn’t deserve it. So I kind of got stern and told them ‘it’s not completely luck if I used my real money to get extra spins’ so that kind of got them to shut up.

They are constantly send me message that they ‘run out of spins’ and what not and I mostly ignore them but one time after I answered someone on the global chat they basically copy pasted their previous message that they didn’t get the outfit and send it to me. Again.

One day I realized they got the outfit and congratulated them, their answer? ‘But I don’t have the wand and I want it, you got it’

I don’t know if I’m reading too much into this, but it feels to me that this person wants to use me like their fucking wallet.

I don’t want to talk with them about this because they obviously don’t care about me at all, I just want to become invisible to them, make them believe that I abandoned the game entirely. I even have the quill that let’s you change your character name so they won’t be able to look for me.

Was this entire novel necessary to ask a simple question? No. But God does it feel good to get it out of my chest.

I’m being a bitch and an asshole? Most likely, but this game is supposed to be a place for me to have fun, and this person is slowly taking that away from me.

PS: I’m tagging the HL community as well because even though I’m not really active and I’m just in general a lurker, I see a lot of smart people there and I want to hear as many thoughts as possible about this mess (and because I don’t know how Reddit works) and see if I’m just been a paranoid nut job because of a silly game or if I’m not alone in my feelings.
