looking back on the two events about n25's origin story, i've realized a certain distinction between the four members.
at their lowest point, kanade and mafuyu wanted to die. they didn't care about their own lives one way or another. whereas i think mizuki and ena, at their lowest point, still wanted to live. they just wished the world wouldn't make it so hard for them.

normally I'd say shippers should be allowed to have fun as long as it's harmless and if they wanna take things from canon and make it something ship related thats fine but there is no way people unironically think that passion at 25 is meant to be a kanamafu love song just because it has the word "love" in the chorus. kana4 is about a lot of things but the crux of the event is about kanade remembering the love she had for music after her savior complex turned it into an obligation to her for years and the song is about this.

the 1st verse using the theme of memories as reference to kanade remembering the memories of the day she made her first song and discovered her passion for it (hence the song title). kanade has been making music her whole life but after the incident it stopped becoming a thing she made out of love and instead became a thing she did to repent for what she did to her father. the passion in question refers to her way of creating music back then, something she did out of love, something she enjoyed doing because it made her and her family happy. that's the passion she is yearning for, she yearns for the day that music will return to being something she truly loves. a day in which she can be free from her savior complex and go back to making music because she loves to, not because she needs to.

the pre chorus references themes of growing up which parallels the start of the event in which kanade’s grandma reminds her that she is getting older and is going to graduate soon and thus needs to start thinking about what she wants to do for the rest of her life. this one question is the catalyst for the existential crisis she has for the rest of the event. the line "the youth you were allowed to be" directly alludes to kanade's child self who was able to have a care free approach to music which is why she was able to have fun with it. child kanade was care free and happy because isn't shackled with the savior complex she has now. in this event kanade is forced to confront her true feelings and its here where she realizes just how unhappy she actually is, something kanade tries to repress because she believes she doesn't deserve to he happy. the youth she was allowed to be was someone who was happy, something kanade doesn't allow herself to be now. understanding the contrast her child self has with her current self is how she is able to discover her true feelings.

the words "i long for you, i love you" isn't directed towards a specific person, it's referring to the happiness that kanade wants but represses because she believes she isn't allowed to have it. for all of kanade’s self-punishing nature, she's still human who wants to be happy like anyone else and she longs for that happiness and loves the feeling of it. the lesson kanade learns here is to acknowledge her true feelings and to never let it go and wonders if this lesson will someday be something that permanently resonates in her heart, if there will ever come a day in which she can be true to herself. kanade wants happiness but can't accept it so even when she does feel it, she can't fully love it because she's convinced herself that she doesn't deserve it and wonders if someday she can let go of the guilt that plagues her mind and fully embrace and love the happiness she wants. the last line of this chorus is the only thing that could allude to kanade's goal of saving mafuyu but imo I feel like that contrasts what the event is about. while kanade doesn't give up on saving mafuyu, its not really a theme present here. instead it's about kanade learning to prioritize herself for once and understand that she's also someone who's worthy of saving (albeit she still has a long way to go). paired with the context of the actual event, the last line feels more like kanade talking to herself. as said before, kanade making a song to comfort herself is such a huge step for her because it's the first time in which she's making music to make herself (and only herself) happy instead of someone else and after that she allows herself to hope for a better life. she's far from being saved completely and properly but wonders if she can someday by facing her own internal struggles moving forward

it's crucial that this verse has everyone in niigo singing alongside kanade. one of the reasons as to why middle school was the lowest point in kanade's life is because she was alone with no meaningful connections or support system she can lean on and finding that in niigo gave light in her life the she had lost. the lyric "you aren't alone in the world, don't forget that as well" is such an important line because it's niigo reminding kanade that people care about her, want the best for her, that whatever she's dealing with she doesn't have to do it alone. it's a reminder that kanade needs because she's forcing herself to deal with everything on her own which is seen in this event in which she tells rin that her problems aren't that bad so she doesn't have to tell her or anyone about them, she resists help because she doesn't believe she needs it but also because she feels she doesn't deserve it until ena firmly validates her feelings and helps her come to terms with them which is what leads to her making a song for herself, her way of helping herself for once. it's a line that emphasizes how important it is that kanade has niigo in her life to support her

the bridge before the final chorus has a more depressing tone for it as it talks about the inevitable unhappiness kanade will fall into as her savior complex gets worse and her relationship with music becomes corrupted because of that but even through all that she will still find herself thinking back to the happy memories she made when she was a kid and having fun making music and she will continue to do so over and over again. the very end of the event has kanade accepting that it is okay to hope for a better future and allowing herself to do which she did by clinging onto the memory of her very first song, this memory is the "night" she returns to which the last line talks about.
this is mostly meant to be a passion at 25 appreciation post because it almost never gets talked about which I think is a shame because of how well written the lyrics are and how well they tell kanade’s story and I'm really glad this song got picked as kanade’s word link 3dmv because of how personal it is to kanade as a character.
