Due to bright light and heat, Sarracenia in Southern California come out of dormancy very early in the year. However, that also means that they peak earlier in the season. Many of my greener plants - oreophila and flava rugelii - are already crispy around the edges, yet are still producing new pitchers. https://www.instagram.com/p/CQeN-p0r1jl/?utm_medium=tumblr

Had a wonderful visit with Don Elkins of Mesa Exotics, yesterday. Don is one of the best sarracenia growers I know, and the plants in his collection are absolutely incredible. Some future cultivars alongside some current cultivars in these photos. Fun fact: Don is the breeder of the famous King Henry flytrap! https://www.instagram.com/p/CPyaZIpLwbQ/?utm_medium=tumblr

Alucard has a wonderful combination of shape, size, and color. Now, if only I could get it to produce more than one pitcher per crown per season… https://www.instagram.com/p/CPlgQ8nLZgK/?utm_medium=tumblr
