Final, Part 3: The Marra Athletic Complex
I chose to paint the Marra Athletic Complex because I am on the Women's Lacrosse team and have spent a lot of time on this turf. I love being able to see the mountains behind the field, especially in the winter when there is snow on the trees. Every day I get to practice my favorite sport with my best friends, and I have created a lot of memories here. Painting this picture made me excited for my senior season coming up in the Spring!

Final, Part 2
I created this holiday card and put it in the lacrosse offices in the Reilly Center. I'm a member of the Women's Lacrosse team, so I hope one of my coaches or teammates read the card and smile.

Final, Part 1: "Sun of Leaves"
Using Andy Goldsworthy's artwork as a reference, I created a sun out of leaves. The concept behind my outdoor work was to incorporate the sun in our assignment for nature. The leaves on trees grow because of the sun, so I wanted to relate the two.

My still-life drawing was inspired by Picasso’s abstract art style. The various lines and symbols with lots of color resembled Picasso’s style. To represent Gen-Z, I drew an iPhone with five apps: DoorDash, Venmo, TikTok, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Above the iPhone, I wrote “Gen-Z” in cursive, which is ironic because most of our generation did not learn cursive and does not know how to read it properly.
All five of these apps play a large roll in our generation as we revolve around the internet. DoorDash represents our dependency on fast food and fast delivery. Some of those restaurants include McDonald’s and Taco Bell. Venmo represents online banking and the increasing popularity. TikTok has consumed our lives with the addiction of watching videos for hours. Instagram has been a consistent social media platform for years. LinkedIn has shown the importance of online interaction in finding a job and networking with companies. I think all 5 of these products represent my generation.

I chose Matisse to inspire my portrait. I enjoyed how simplistic this style is with symmetric lines and alternating colors. I really enjoyed being able to use different colors that wouldn’t normally be used in a portrait. I also like how this assignment used cardboard as a reusable material during climate change!

For this assignment, I chose an elephant as my spirit animal. I learned a lot about the mythology and symbolism of elephants. For example, the elephant symbolizes power and invincibility. It is also symbolic of wisdom and longevity. Many people see elephants as a symbol of protection and strength to guide them through difficult times in their lives. Elephants can lift or carry as much as 16,000 pounds, and they can also run at speeds of up to 40 miles per hour.
I connect with elephants because it is a symbol used to become more aware of our own power. The elephant is my reminder to recognize my inner strengths. Becoming aware of my abilities allows me to become more secure, knowing that I have the power to create what I want my life to be. We all have power and we can use it for good, making our lives and the world a better place. We just need to be aware of this power and take control of it.
My drawing was inspired by Roy Lichtenstein's Pop Art style. The elephant is the primary focus of the drawing, so I colored the blue skies and sun around it. I attempted to make the gray elephant stand out in contrast to the bright colors in the background. The shading in the elephant is similar to the shading in the bull example on the PowerPoint slides.

The Alchemist
An alchemist is defined as a person who practices alchemy. Alchemy used to be a form of chemistry during the Middle Ages that attempted to discover an elixir of life. I thought that this definition was perfect inspiration for a skull because death is inevitable, and there can be no elixir of life. No matter how hard the alchemist tried, eventually they reached the end of their life as well. In this drawing, the skull lies in an elixir inside a flask, and is presumably being studied by an alchemist.

The Haunted Garden
I took a picture of the garden behind the Swan Business Center. This garden is beautiful and eerie at the same time. I often walk by it on my way to practice, and each time I imagine the statue coming to life. The trees in the background add the effect of hidden mysteries. This specific photo became more creepy in black & white with the extra shadows.

For this assignment, I chose the Akua Ba fertility figure from Ghana. The emphasis on the flat, disk-like head is associated with the sun. The flat shape of the head represents beauty in the Ghana community. The chosen medium includes wood (sticks), beads (rocks), and string (leaves). I tried to choose a stick that was thicker at the top to represent neck rolls. I enjoyed being in nature creating this figure!

For this assignment, I chose the quote “step into your greatness”. I gave this advice because I think it is important to remind people of how great they are. In our society, it is easy to compare your success to others. Success comes in many different forms, as does greatness. Everyone has their own unique greatness that they need to embrace! I enjoyed doing this assignment outside in the nice weather.

In this picture, my friend Hailey is wearing a complementary color combination. Her blue sweatshirt and orange shorts contrasted with the white background. I really enjoyed this assignment and learning about different color combinations!

My drawing represents my career as a student athlete at SBU. Last year, I had a concussion during a majority of my lacrosse season, which was a setback. However, this year is my senior season and I will turn it into a comeback. The heart between the lacrosse sticks represents my love for lacrosse returning after last season. I am much happier this year as shown by the smiley face because I am able to play alongside my teammates again. The second picture is on my team’s locker room door. My team was very supportive all last year. I am excited for this chapter of my life to continue!
