Answered here!! But basically: Bobby, which ended canonically badly. Which it was always going to: Avery got into it for the wrong reasons (hungry for love, see below) and Bobby had ulterior motives too (passing astronomy).

⚰️ - Someone they lost (not necessarily dead)

Rook. but also Rebecca. And she feels the loss of Rebecca even more acutely because she should be there, she's not dead, she just isn't there. (At home. At the science fair. At the hospital when Avery broke her arm.) And never will be. Avery spent her childhood trying and trying and trying to get her mother to care about her, to no avail. She doesn't care anymore (she says). So if Rebecca wants to get closer (does she, does she really, is she really going to come through this time?) it's whatever, it's no big deal, Avery doesn't care. The ball's in Rebecca's court; is she even going to come to the game?

Canonically, I think there's an "Uncle Gary" who lives in an anti-Ment commune? I expect she isn't too close with him because of his attitudes towards Ments (which include her parents and her brother, her most favorite people). But he is also a "safe" relative in the sense that she isn't afraid of him hurting her (but I also expect they don't see each other much if at all).

I think even if her other aunts and uncles (which I headcanon that she and Nick have, and whom I headcanon are all Ments) are friendlier like on social media, Hope and John have probably made their excuses to keep them distant (just in case) and have kept her Pollard Zero a secret; so they may not see each other much either. So Daph doesn't know them well, wishes she did, but might be apprehensive about seeing them. (This kind of contradicts a fic I wrote, but I feel like this makes more sense.)

Canon NPC important to them: Uncle Lev! And Murph! Maybe because of that distance she feels from some of her biological family; she likes having honorary uncles! I hope they don't turn out to be evil lol.

For Avery:

First relationship and ex: Answering both at once because Avery has dated one (1) person before Nate, and it was Bobby Marks. She wanted to be loved so badly. (And felt like she was contorting herself into something else. To like holding hands and little pet names and being referred to as a collective "we".) She was kind of relieved when the plagiarism scandal gave her an excuse to break it off. She felt kind of...broken about not being able to reciprocate his feelings, so it was a relief that his feelings were a lie (as far as she's concerned). And she didn't date anyone else after because, look what you get for trying to be something you're not, trying to be loveable and loving. Still unloved.

For Deidre (I called her Deedee before. but have decided that only Sally is allowed to call her that lol):

Pu-erh: What does your OC do when they’re stuck indoors for a day or two?

Not a problem 👍 Alina will happily spend the whole day curled up on her couch or in her bed reading. She would prefer this probably. She's also (at least pre-canon, when she had more time) taken up trying to learn fibre arts like knitting or crocheting, so this is a perfect opportunity for her to try her hand at that!

Lemon Balm: Does your OC have any bedtime habits or rituals?

I've mentioned before that, once Alina and Nate are together (and sharing a bed regularly), Alina really prioritizes in-bed cuddle time. She and Nate will (usually, if their patrol schedules and duties permit) go to bed together and just cuddle and talk and have this kind of emotional and physical intimacy that's really important to her. Sometimes they both sleep, sometimes Alina sleeps and Nate reads. She does keep this up after she becomes a vampire, even when she doesn't need to sleep as often.

On her own, Alina reads before bed if she can. Some nights (especially recently) have been too busy or she's just so tired that when she climbs into bed she falls asleep almost immediately, but she likes to have time at the end of the day to decompress before she sleeps.

Jasmine: Does your OC like flowers? Which type of flower is their favorite?

Alina loves flowers! She's not much of a gardener, so it's in more of a being-given-flowers kind of way, lol. It's kind of a novel experience for her, since I don't think she's ever really received a lot of flowers (Bobby wouldn't have gotten her any when they dated. Rebecca might have gotten Alina flowers when she graduated, but honestly she strikes me as more of a take-her-out-to-dinner kind of mom (if they did anything extra to celebrate at all). If Rook had lived, I think he would have given her flowers all the time - graduations, birthdays, major milestone celebrations). Nate would give her flowers, though, and it's this kind of cliche romantic gesture that she thought would never really be meant for her.

Alina would say that she doesn't have a favourite flower and is happy with whatever anyone gives her. Red roses have a classic romantic appeal to them that I think she would appreciate, so she might tell someone they're her favourite if she was pressed to pick. Her actual favourite flowers are peonies, especially the soft pink ones.

Oolong: How does your OC decorate their space?

I don't have any pictures of what really fits my image for what Alina's apartment looks like. All of the pictures I find online look too put-together, if that makes sense. I know she has the cozy house style (out of all of the options in Book 1) and I think she has a few vintage pieces she found at estate sales or antique stores, but it's kind if mixed eclectically in with Ikea pieces or something new and cheap, because sometimes you can't find a beautiful 50-year-old hardwood table and all you've got is a $130 dining set from Ikea. I imagine her room at the Warehouse is much prettier and has nicer pieces in it (from Nate's own collection, maybe?) than her apartment does.

Alina leans towards softer or deeper colours (not in the sense of pale, necessarily, but just... not bright, if that makes any sense. I don't know the word for it. She wouldn't have something as bright as a cherry red, for example, which is very strong). There are throw pillows and quilts on her couch.

Lapsang Souchong: If your OC was a scented candle, what would they smell like?

I know nothing about candle scents so this may be my weakness, but I can picture her as something kind of floral? Something soft, but not overly strong. I had considered vanilla for a bit, because it's sweet and warm, but vanilla-scented things can often be overpoweringly sweet and present. A lilac or a lavender, maybe? (<- I don't know if these are overpoweringly strong candle scents). Her scent would need to be pleasant but unobtrusive.

English Breakfast: What is your OC’s morning routine?

On weekdays/workdays/days where she has to be somewhere and do something: Her routine is pretty simple. As much as Ellery would love to sleep in, we all know there's not a lot of that that can be done if Nick is in the house and acting as her alarm. So on a weekday morning, it's up and then showered, dressed, and down to breakfast. She has left herself almost exactly just enough time to get everything done, so after she eats it's right out the door and on her way.

On weekends/holidays/days where she's got nothing to do and nowhere to be: She will lounge for hours in bed, reading or watching something typically. When she's hungry, she will get up and eat something. When she decides she's 'up for the day', either to go about doing whatever she needs to do that day or to go lounge in the living room instead of her bedroom, she'll go take a shower and change out of her pajamas and into proper clothes for the day. (She lounges around like this on weekends and such, but I don't think she would actually lounge like this every day if this was her norm. I think it's only because there are two days that make up 'the weekend', so it's more of a decadent thing).

Green: What is your OC’s favorite piece of clothing?

FERRO'S HOODIE

Ellery is a horrible terrible no-good hoodie thief, especially because Ferro has so many to choose from. She makes him alternate them out so that they always still kind of smell like him.

In seriousness, though, she has a pair of green pants kind of like one of these (probably more so the left image than the right) that she loves. She found them at a thrift store about a year before Mind Blind started.

Ginger: What always brightens your OC’s day?

Hanging out with her friends :) I don't think Ellery realizes how much having good company (and being surrounded by people who love her, especially on a bad day) actually really uplifts her mood.
