The death of Princess Diana
Tumblr media
The Royal Family has been known as one of the most prestigious families in the world. It is one of the most respected monarchies in the world and has ran the British democracy for ages. Imagine being a normal girl and one day living a real life fairy tale. This is exactly what Diana Spencer did. From 1981-1992 Princess Diana served as a member of the royal family.  She was married to Prince Charles and had two children, Prince William and Prince Harry. The Princess of Wales was a British icon and loved by the people of England. She was known for her charity work and big heart. After being married to Prince Charles, they divorced due to marriage problems. It is a rule when marrying into the royal family, that if you choose to divorce, you can not remarry until your former spouse has passed away. After the divorce, Prince Charles was not allowed to remarry. Princess Diana soon then moved out and lived as normal of a life as she could. On August 31, 1997 the princess was driving in Paris with her partner, body guard, and driver. Following their drive the car was being chased by paparazzi and acting out of control. The driver took a different route in hopes of getting away from the paparazzi and ended up crashing the car. The car crash took place under the Pont del’ Alma tunnel in the early morning. The only person to survive the crash was the body guard. Princess Diana was 36 and died at the hospital. The death of the princess shocked millions and left all of England devastated.

Summary
My topic is relevant to social studies education because it brings in different politics and cultures that are used throughout the world. Children will be able to learn about the history of the British monarchy and the important people that have impacted it’s history. The story I am trying to tell through my journey box is how much of an impact one person can have on a country. This is shown through the way she was treated after divorcing the prince. The death tells an important story of a woman who captured the hearts of many all around the world. I would teach this topic in an elementary classroom by going into the history of the British monarchy. They will then have the opportunity to learn about different ways countries us their governments. They will then learn about the royal family and the history certain members. This can be integrated into other subjects like English. English can incorporate this topic when writing papers or reading books. The death of Princess Diana plays a pivotal role in English society.
