The Vault - Breakers by Ade Rahmat - A Review Video Download
This is the Ad Copy:
A playing card, key, coin, or even a borrowed credit card melt right through a solid deck of cards!
After doing a card trick with a regular deck of cards and with no switches you offer to show them an amazing optical illusion. You borrow a key or credit card, drivers license etc. and make it melt right through your solid deck of cards.
As soon as you show the illusion you can show them every card in the deck one by one and they can see the cards are real and that there are no holes in them.
The gimmick is easy to load on and off the deck which allows you to hand the deck out for examination if you would like, or to continue with other effects using the same deck of cards.
Easy to build. Fun to perform. Download it today!
My Thoughts:
I have a soft spot for pocket illusions. If I can take an illusion that fits in my hands.. and fool you with it.. there's room for it in my repertoire. Since my principle performing venue is a restaurant, BREAKERS is an ideal effect.
I also have a real appreciation for inexpensive magic that works. BREAKERS is very inexpensive and does everything advertised..
Ade Rahmat has created a very functional illusion. You can seemingly pass a selected card completely through a deck of cards. Actually, you can apparently pass any small, flat object through the deck.. including keys, coins, business cards.. and whatever else inspires you.
Notice the key word is 'apparently'. That's where the illusion portion comes into play.
Ade's effect is a download. That means to create the illusion, which in this case is another word for a prop, you'll need a bit of DIY. Although the prop is reasonably complex.. it's not complex to construct. Ade uses almost the entire sixteen minute tutorial carefully constructing the prop/gimmick, and walks you through each twist and turn in real time. All you'll need is a sharp razor and clear double-sided tape. You'll also need a straight edge (ruler) to assist with accurate cuts and a pencil. That's it…
You're taught the basic handling and positioning. There is a bit of angle required.. but your hand should conceal most of the gimmick. Ideally, perform BREAKERS straight on and you shouldn't have a problem. The gimmick is designed to, basically, fold flat to aid in concealment and ditching.. although you don't have to ditch it.
The video tutorial is well filmed and wordless. The video image is quite sufficient to construct your gimmick..
For eight bucks.. you can't beat the price. Go watch the demo video and see how it looks. If this is your type of magic.. you'll appreciate all the effort Ade put into BREAKERS.

BOUNCE - by Juan Luis Rubiales - A Review Magic download (video)
This is the Ad Copy:
This is the type of hyper visual effect that makes you stop in your tracks. The type of magic that you just can’t help but smile when you see. “Bounce” is a super fun and innovative technique for making playing cards seemingly appear out of thin air with the bounce of a ball.
“Bounce” by Juan Luis Rubiales (the creative mind behind our bestseller "Debajo") allows you to add a super visual element to all your favorite card magic tricks. It is one of the most memorable ways to find a selected card, produce a four of a kind and so much more. While “Bounce” is designed to be visual, it can also be performed with face-down cards. That means you can also use it to secretly add on cards in the innocent action of bouncing the ball.
Here’s the craziest part…”Bounce” doesn’t use any fancy gimmicks or special cards. It’s all sleight of hand using a novel technique that can be done with any regular deck of playing cards. While it will take a little practice to get down smoothly, it’s way easier than you might think. Well within the range of any card magician. Multiple ideas are included with your download to get you started.
My Thoughts:
I truly appreciate effects that make you think and expand your creative reach. BOUNCE does just that.. and for the price.. you can't beat it.
Juan Luis Rubiales has created not just an effect, but a method. You can use his method to reveal cards in any number of ways. Produce four Aces. Turn a face-down card face-up in a group of face-down cards. Secretly add a card to a group of jumbled cards. Reveal multiple cards. All from a simple bounce of a rubber ball.
I know this is a review, but sometimes the best way to get an idea of 'how' an effect looks to an audience is to watch the demo video. I encourage anyone with curiosity to watch the video on the Vanishing Inc. site to get a grasp of how good this looks. I can't truly do it justice with my words… and I'm hard-headed enough I'd certainly try if I thought I could pull it off. I hate to say '..just go to the site..', but sometimes it's best.
OK.. now that you've watch Juan magically produce Aces, I can talk about the fine print.. Juan readily admits learning this is not instantaneous. There's a bit of a 'knack' to releasing four Aces in single file. Releasing one is not hard at all, and you'll quickly add the others.
I don't think you have to be a genius to figure out the basics. What Juan teaches you is the subtle nuances to make Bounce look like real magic. For $11.95 you certainly can't complain about the price. You get a fourteen-minute plus download that teaches several effects and explains the proper type ball to use/buy. Vanishing sells the balls separately.. but I've noticed they are out of stock.
Technically, the rubber ball is a juggler's bounce ball… 140 grams weight and 60 mm diameter. The size of the ball and the composition of the rubber matters. The proper size helps conceal the hidden cards.. and the composition provides the proper surface tension to 'drag' the hidden cards into play.
The download itself is a well-filmed, better than most, video. Nothing negative to write about. Juan doesn't over explain, and makes good use of his 14 minutes of instruction time.
Again.. if you watched the demo, you have a good understanding of what to expect. Personally, I can do one card OK.. with only minutes of practice. My magic cohort, who has practiced somewhat longer, is looking good producing multiple cards. I will definitely recommend BOUNCE to my friends and readers. It's a great utility move, with a flair, that opens a new avenue to produce or reveal selected cards.

Haunted Key Deluxe - by Murphy's Magic - A Review Gimmicks and Online Instruction
This is the Ad Copy:
Description: Murphy's Magic is proud to present the Haunted Key Deluxe!
Effect: Imagine placing an old Key on the palm of your hand and without any strings, wires, magnets, electronics, etc. the key starts to move on its own!!! Turning 180 degrees right in the palm of your hand!! A seriously spooky and mystifying effect that can be handed out at any time for complete inspection. You need NO body-hook-ups, NO extra gimmicks and there are NO lighting issues.
The problem with most haunted keys is that they don't look old or "Haunted"… The Haunted Key Deluxe looks and feels the part.
BONUS! Also, included is a full tutorial on bonus effects that can be performed with the Haunted Key Deluxe. With some of these effects you may need extra items to perform with.
The Haunted Key Deluxe fits right into your pocket and can be performed in many different environments, making this one of the most versatile gimmicks you can have on you. Aged Patina Perfectly Balanced Large Size Multi-Effect Tutorial Fits in Pocket Take Anywhere
My Thoughts:
The Haunted Key is a classic.. and this is a review of the classic. Seeing as how Halloween is right around the corner, I thought this would be appropriate. I think most of you understand -how- the HK (haunted key) works. There are no electronics, strings, pulls or magnets. It works totally via the power of telekinesis… sort of. Well, saying it APPEARS to work with telekinesis might be more appropriate.
You lay an old-fashioned skeleton key on the palm of your hand.. and with the proper amount of mental power and finesse.. the key slowly begins to turn. It will roll over a full 180 degrees with zero apparent physical help from the magi.
Just for the record.. the three parts of a skeleton key are: Bow The bow is the “handle” of the key. Often, antique keys will have a circular shape or design to them.
Barrel The barrel is the longest part of the key; it’s the component that connects the bow to the bit.
Bit Bit and teeth go hand and hand. The bit of a key is the teeth at the end, which are inserted into the lock.
Generally, you place the key across the palm of your hand, with the Bit facing you. As you focus your concentration on the key, you'll see the bit start to move. Slowly, the bit, (and the rest of the key of course..) will begin to turn, and the bit will go from facing you to facing away from you.
How does the key turn? It's called the 'ideomotor effect'. If you aren't sure the meaning.. google it. Let's just say it's self-powered. It works, and it REALLY looks good with a little bit of practice.
Murphy's Magic 'Haunted Key Deluxe' is the perfect key for this effect. It is a large key.. which makes it extend the full width of your palm.. and then some.
It is aged properly.. to look like a really old, really spooky accessory.
It is balanced better than any other haunted key I've ever used.. and that's very important.. as you'll see.
And it drops neatly in your pocket.. to use at a moments notice.
You're also provided all the instructions you'll need to get the most use out of your key.
You can't beat the bang for you bucks. This is so little to spend on something that will bring you such satisfaction as a performer. This isn't just a Halloween effect. You'll use this throughout the year, although Halloween gives you a great reason to perform it..
I highly recommend the Haunted Key Deluxe… it's one of my very favorite bits of magic and mystery.

The Vault - Sand Deck by Martin Braessas - A Review
This is the Ad Copy:
From The mind of Martin Braessas comes Sand Deck. You will be able to produce a whole deck of cards from a single card! If you are looking for your perfect opener this is it! Once you produce the deck you can continue using it for your favourite routines!
Easy to do! Super visual! You will learn all the details to perform this effect. Fun gimmick to make with things you have at home.
My Thoughts:
Yes.. I know my comrade Jim Canaday just reviewed this effect.. but I suppose great minds think alike. We both selected Sand Deck from a stack of Vault items because we liked it, and then we both wrote our reviews, simultaneously, but independently.
Sand Deck is the latest effect from Martin Braessas, who also created Fire Phone Case, Fire Kit, and The Only One, plus, was featured in his own Penguin Live Lecture.
Since this is part of Murphy's 'The Vault' selections, it is an instant download and very affordable. So.. the question is.. is it any good..?
It is a convincing visual. If you watch the video, you'll see what the audience sees. Not really suitable for a stage, it's ideal for close up and walk around. I can't really call it an effect, but more of a cross between a flourish and a sleight… It's a visual demonstration.
You show a single card, held between the thumb and fingers, and with minimal movement you can dribble an entire deck -or- change the single card into a full pack of cards. The ad copy says you can then perform effects with the deck you produced.. True.. but you will have to deal with a gaff. Not a big deal, but just keeping it real.
There is a little DIY involved in creating a gaff card. It's nothing major, and can probably be completed by the average user in less than ten minutes with material around the house.. assuming you have a bit of double sided tape.
The only other thing not mentioned in the ad copy is… you will need a certain type of background. Although this is not a major production, you will have to be aware of it when making your gaff. It's not a deal breaker, as the majority of the sleight occurs under cover provided by the performer and your close-up pad provides the necessary background..
The video tutorial runs about 21 minutes and explains everything you need to know about both performing Sand Deck and creating the simple gaff. Video and sound quality are fine and you should have zero problems with it.
I encourage you to go to Murphy's and watch the video. A short video provides a better 'picture' than I can paint with words. I agree with the ad copy that Sand Deck can make for a great opener. It's a dramatic method of introducing a deck to your spectators. I'm sure it's not for every performer's taste, as I know some of you are anti-gaff, and that's OK. I'm not trying to sell you.. only trying to get you to watch the video and see if it's for you..

Papa Rabbit Hits The Big Time - by DARYL - A Review
This is the Ad Copy:
There is not stronger magic than something that happens in the spectators hands! Daryl's timeless sponge routine is perfect for ALL venues! The fun begins when a sponge rabbit and a little bird are magically produced. A super-clean and baffling transposition is performed between the rabbit and the bird followed by a hilarious comedy routine that will get your audience on their feet!!
Mama rabbits and Papa rabbits appear and disappear in the hands of both the magician and the spectator in this beautifully thought out routine and story. At each step the audience is caught off guard. For an unforgettable finish, a large handful of baby bunnies magically appear in the spectator's tightly clenched fist! Comes with everything you need to get started today!
Includes: All of the Sponge Bunnies and Birds! Daryl's hilarious routine! Word for word script! Detailed Handling!
My Thoughts:
You can't beat a classic. Daryl's classic Papa Rabbit routine is truly a thing of beauty.. It is magic at its most basic and entertaining level. I don't care what you think of sponge bunnies, or silks, or linking rings.. or any of the tried and true tricks that have served as the framework for many a magicians. Yes, it's easy to mess up any of the above.. but if you take Daryl's sponge bunny effect, combine it with a hilarious routine he honed through years of hard work, and add the crafted bunny and bird sponges he created just for this effect… you have several minutes of a super routine it would take you years to develop on your own. Honestly…
It's unusual for the manufacturer to encourage you to use someone's word for word script.. But.. with Daryl's untimely passing, Murphy's has decided one of the best ways of honoring him is to republish several of his most popular effects and sell them at a fair price. Papa Rabbit Hits The Big Time is, I think, the third special reissue I've reviewed… and this is one of my two favorites because it can be performed anywhere, at anytime, and without preparation.
Not only do you get all the rabbits and birds (sponges) you'll need, but you get a box to keep them in and, most importantly.. forty minutes of instruction from Daryl and Javier Fuenmayor.. with both giving their thoughts and secrets. Daryl performs his full routine for you to see the entire effect from start to finish.. and then offers his special take. I sure do miss Daryl…
" Mama rabbits and Papa rabbits appear and disappear in the hands of both the magician and the spectator.." I don't have to tell you of the power you instill in an effect when you can perform it in the spectator's hand. This is a strong as it gets.. and has always been the strength of bunnies or sponge balls. Things disappear.. and reappear.. the audience laughs.. more things vanish and reappear. the audience laughs even more.. and you catch yourself laughing, even though you know what's about to happen.
Aside from a 40 minute tutorial, the performance is, I'm sure, from one of Daryl's L&L videos. The audience is a familiar crew from years past. Both the sound and video are what you would expect from Murphy's Magic. No problems and no unexpected surprises in the production dept.. Thankfully, I rarely encounter a video now days that gets bad marks for production. I think the magic world has adopted a certain standard that 'almost' makes this paragraph unnecessary.. but… I still feel obligated to say it.
All I can say is.. spend the twenty bucks and help keep the legacy of Daryl alive while you enjoy the resurgence of a classic. Thanks to Murphy's Magic for reissuing Papa Rabbit and for sharing it with me.. so I can share my thoughts with you.

SOLE SNATCHER - by Joel Dickinson & Joe Givan - A Review (Gimmicks and Online Instructions)
This is the Ad Copy:
Trainers & Shoe's
A miracle at your finger tips that starts at your toes.
A routine that lives up to the 'no pocket space required' hype -- with NO damage or permanent alternation to your shoe needed!
Sole Snatcher is the ultimate signed card to shoe yet so much more.
Reappear signed bank notes, business cards, playing cards, paper or cardboard in your shoe.
An amazing tool to add to your repertoire.
Yet still, it's even more than that.. imagine vanishing a signed banknote and you explain it's in your shoe, you remove your shoe and monopoly money appears inside, then, when you remove it, it instantly changes at your finger tips in to their signed bank note.
Sole Snatcher is limited to your imagination. It's also ideal for predictions and billets. Suitable for close up, strolling, cabaret and parlour.
Joel Dickinson goes all out and shares his secrets that take the card to shoe plot further than it's ever been!
You receive everything required to perform Sole Snatcher. Including a HD tutorial video with various handlings & countless ideas to get you performing this miracle. Also included is a performance breakdown of card to shoe.
Sole Snatcher is interchangeable, you can add and remove your cards/paper super quick!
You also receive FISM Close up Champion, Joe Givan's lecture note section with his amazing variation of Card to Shoe.
My Thoughts:
Joel Dickinson, creator of Sole Snatcher, has been a very busy guy for a number of years. He's created a number of very popular effects, like Foreseen, Bulldog, The Trix, Volition.. and written best selling books like Head Tricks and Tricking The Brain. You can't argue with success.
With Sole Snatcher, Joel has created a utility that makes it appear as if a signed card, inserted in a deck, suddenly falls out of the performer's shoe. I don't have to tell you how visual this can be. It borders on the impossible.. but as magicians.. we also know the impossible isn't all its made out to be. Joel makes this particularly impossible trick… possible.
Sole Snatcher is a gimmick. It comes in an envelope and you can create your own gimmick/utility in a few minutes. Everyone knows I dislike DIY, but this is simple DIY.. and I'm not going to hold it against Sole Snatcher. All you should need to create the gimmick, aside from what's provided, is a little glue or double stick tape.
If you watch the performance video, you'll see the magi get a card signed, apparently insert it into the center of the deck, and after a bit of conversation, drop the entire deck into his jacket pocket. Another bit of conversation.. and the magi tells the spectator his card has vanished from the pocket. To prove his point, he gestures to his shoe, removes his shoe, shows the inside of the shoe to the spectator just as a folded card drops from the inside/toe of the shoe to the inside/heel of the shoe. The magi dumps the card into his free hand, unfolds it, and shows it to be the signed card.
The performance is filmed straight on, for the viewer, and isn't an actual live performance.. Although live performances are always a plus, nothing is lost in filming Sole Snatcher this way. I want to say this because I'm going to say something that I probably shouldn't.. but I feel I have to say it to be fair to everyone. Sole Snatcher is a great idea, for sure, but it does not do ALL the dirty work for you. You are responsible for getting the card out of the deck and into a state to make it appear as if you produced it from your shoe. There is an additional method to make this more simple, but the basic control is a necessity. Enough said…
If course, there are many things you can produce with Sole Snatcher.. cards, bank notes, business cards and billetts.. among other items. Anything small enough to fit inside a shoe, along with your foot, can be produced at a moments notice.
Pros: Startling production. Can produce any number of different items. Can be used in a variety of different settings. Additional six minute video and PDF with info not included in the main tutorial.
Cons: Must walk around with the gimmick in your shoe. Not sure if this is a forty dollar effect. ( Definitely worth it -if- you use it regularly ). Designed for shoes with laces, not loafer type shoes, although I'm sure there's a work-around.
The tutorial is a HD online tutorial that runs almost 30 minutes. The quality is very good and you'll be comfortable watching and learning Sole Snatcher. If you enjoy this type of magical production, you will get a great deal of satisfaction from Joel's latest creation.

spRING - by Joonas Mengel - A Review Props and Online Instructions
This is the Ad Copy..
spRing is a long-forgotten puzzle that's been reworked into one of the most classic and iconic plots in magic - the linking rings.
Imagine being able to effortlessly melt a solid ring into the very coils of a tightly wound spring with a visually pleasing and buttery smooth penetration that's done without any help of the methods typically seen in the traditional linking rings.
In fact, there is nothing to ditch or hide, and you can hand out spRing immediately before, after, and even during your performance if you so choose.
spRing is incredibly easy to perform - it will take you minutes to understand the secret and only hours to master. It's also suitable for any type of performance and venue.
Here's what you get: 2 high quality props 45 minutes of expert instruction that includes a multi-phase routine and many alternative handlings to craft a performance suited for you. Peace of mind of knowing that you'll never have to hide any gaps or extra rings. spRing has not been made for everyday carry in mind but this is something you'll want to carry every day!
My Thoughts:
You have to love old things made new, and the nostalgia that comes with it. I remember playing with a 'ring on a spring' when I was in single digits. Now, Murphy's Magic, creator Joonas Mengel, and presenter Javier Fuenmayor have reintroduced the Ring on a Spring with a little more sophistication and handling.
The premise is… a solid metal ring, approx. 3 1/2 inches, is handed out for inspection. A solid metal spring is also shown and inspected. With little fanfare, the magician links the ring onto the spring, appearing as if he melted the ring onto the spring. He then hands the ring and spring, still linked, out to the spectators for examination.
Although the basic method is super simple, the creators have gone to the extra effort of creating a tutorial, complete with three different full performances, to demonstrate the nuances needed to make this seem to be more of a 'linking', as in linking rings, than a puzzle. The extra effort makes this something you can perform close up and during walk arounds. It becomes an effect.
I'm slightly torn because I like quick and easy effects that actually fool a spectator.. but.. You're going to need to pick your audience carefully. I'm afraid the ring on a spring may be available at too many online locations and you're going to encounter a lot of folks that are familiar with it. I suggest simply asking a spectator.. " Are you familiar with the ring on a spring effect?"… and if they say 'No'.. go for it. If they say 'Yes', change course.
If you present it as a linking effect, you may avoid the puzzle crowd altogether. I think that's the strength of spRing, and that's the point they teach in the tutorial. They have repurposed a classic puzzle into a new effect.
For the price.. you are paying for two quality props, and primarily, the almost one hour online tutorial. The props can be bought for a few dollars at varying places online, but all you'll receive is perhaps a minute and a half of instructions. So… decide what the additional instructions are worth to your performance.
I know some of you would like a firm recommendation.. or rebuke.. but you're not getting that today. Like so many other effects, your satisfaction will depend on whether you USE spRing.. or toss it in your 'magic' drawer. If you take time to develop your moves and patter.. it has plenty of potential in the hands of a dedicated magician. If you aren't willing to give the time to spRing, you're better off moving along.
spRing, although very simple, isn't going to do all the work for you in the real world. Our audience is way more sophisticated than audiences forty years ago.. and you have to provide a well-polished effect.
Pros: Nice props. Much larger than normal spring and ring. Easy to learn. Fully examinable. All the dirty work performed under the spectator's nose and nothing to ditch or conceal.
Cons: The only statement I disagree with in the ad copy is.. "spRing is a long-forgotten puzzle.." Considering the number of video tutorials I found on a certain online video platform.. I don't think it's long forgotten. Some spectators will be familiar with this effect beforehand. Price tag.. I'm starting to get comfortable with thirty dollar price tags on magic products.. and I'm guessing that's the whole point.
This effect can be performed by any skill level magician. You'll be performing spRing's basic handling in ten minutes. The Video and sound quality are typical Murphy's Magic, nothing negative to write about, and you can either watch the tutorial online or download it. Either way, you'll have no trouble learning this easy-to-perform effect.

ORBIT by Mark Parker & Jonathan Fox - A Review
This is the Ad Copy:
This is exactly the type of magic effect that peaked your interest and served as the gateway to the art. Why? It's super visual, super fun and pulls people in like a magnet. Even better it's EASY to perform allowing you to focus on the most important aspect of any effect - the performance! It also has the advantage of quick reward - which makes it perfect for street magic, strolling. It gets right to the point.
Imagine making - Mobile phones, glasses, dishes, wine glasses, credit cards, CD's any suitable object float between your hands! Orbit is a revolutionary levitation device!
-Super Visual -Easy to do -One size fits all -No threads or magnets -Completely self-contained -Robust and heavy duty (THIS IS NOT A TT) -No set-up, the gimmick is always ready -Comes with special gimmick ready to go
Please note angle considerations during performance. Every detail is covered in a step by step online instructional video. Nothing is left out.Now go out there and blow your spectators away! Idea for Orbit by Illusion Designer Mark Parker brought to life by Jonathan Fox and Global Magic Shop..
My Thoughts:
ORBIT is a levitation gimmick device. You can 'levitate' almost anything with weight.. from cell phones to packs of playing cards to glasses of wine. Thankfully, Orbit does NOT employ threads or magnets, and can be brought in and out of play with almost a moment's notice..
There was a time twenty years ago when I performed my 'magic' in a public setting.. for anyone who would watch. One of my favorite devices was a suction cup attached to a thumb tip. I would attach it to a cola can and casually wait until I thought someone was watching. The can would suddenly 'get away from me'.. and I'd try to reel it back in, indiscreetly, as if I hoped no one saw my misfortune. I've had literally dozens upon dozens of folks walk up to me, perplexed, and want to know how my cola can 'appeared' to take flight.
I loved it…
Well.. it's been long enough that it was time for someone to bring this cool little device back for a new generation. Illusion Designer Mark Parker and Jonathan Fox with Global Magic Shop have done so.. and I'm glad.
I'm not going to tell you this is a thumb tip, because, in the traditional sense, it's not. But it does go on the thumb.
Orbit works on the same principle as the original device. Fortunately, Orbit is adjustable to fit different size thumbs, and comes with shims to make it customizable. It is NOT latex or soft plastic.. but a very hard plastic to last a very long time. It also features ball bearings between the connection points, joining the thumb holder to the suction cup. This is a very important feature, as it allows for hand movements far outside the boundary's of the original.
Jonathan Fox goes into considerable detail in the almost 50-minute tutorial, teaching how to properly handle the gimmick to get the proper balance and appearance to make your performance 'magical'.
Special sections are included for attaching to playing card boxes, cell phones and wine glasses. Quick note: To attach to a card box, you need a box with the cellophane wrapper.
ORBIT comes with a heavy-duty gimmick holder for easy retrieval and ditching. The holder has a clip to attach to your pocket or belt. The holder is also close-able to simplify carrying the gimmick.
The last two sections of the tutorial include a section on maintenance and a bonus section on early prototypes and the thought processes that went into designing the new version.
Jonathan doesn't call ORBIT a stand-alone effect, but an enhancement device to add an additional level of sophistication to your performance. Knowing me.. I'm just a step away from 2002 all over again.
There isn't a real skill level. Even a beginner, if you watch the instructions and pay attention to your positioning, will be able to perform in short order. Obviously, you cannot perform surrounded. So a little audience management will be necessary.
As I mentioned.. the tutorial is approx. 50 minutes and you can watch it online or download it to your desktop. The quality is good, the sound is good, and you'll have zero problems with the video.
The performance visuals are something special, and ORBIT is definitely a device you need to give serious consideration to purchasing. If the price seems a tad steep, it's not. It's built to last. And once you're comfortable with the handling, you'll be glad you listened to me. You'll find yourself using ORBIT over and over… I promise.
I recommend it…

Includes sleight free routines for beginners Includes advanced routines for magicians looking to easily level up. Use it as a card steal, card control, in mentalism, card penetration, and a super easy peek Instant reset The power to control their signed and selected card is now in THEIR hands! But what you do with that, is entirely up to you… This is UNHANDED!
My Thoughts:
I recently received a number of items from Murphy's Magic for review. I was impressed by all the items, to some degree. But.. THIS item.. UNHANDED by JP Vallarino, was my favorite. My mind has been racing with the many possibilities and different ways this can be personalized by the performer to suit his style.
My goodness.. I don't know where to begin. So… lets start with a basic performance/handling and go from there..
JP has created a utility device that allows the magi to allow his audience to perform much of the magic.. and he can still take the credit. I don't want to say TOO much, but I want to say enough to answer your basic questions about Unhanded.
The magi, with a very slight bit of prep, can hand a deck of red Bicycles to a spectator. The spectator can then open the deck at any location and make a 100% free selection of a card. (The magi has his back turned during the effect) The spec then signs the card and places it face down on top of a face down deck. The spec is then requested to cut the deck, and he can then cut it a second time or allow a fellow spec to cut it. He then places the deck inside a red Bicycle card box. The deck is handed to the magi, he recaps what just happened, and opens the card box.. dumping the cards back into the spectator's hands. The spec is asked to look through the deck and find his signed card. He cannot find it. The magi can then produce the signed card from any location he chooses, including a pocket, a hat, or a wallet.
This is the most basic performance, and you can expand in so many directions from there.
The basic performance is created so a beginner can perform it for friends. More advanced performances include techniques like palming and double undercuts to achieve wildly different reveals. The advanced sleights are NOT required, and are made available so the magi can perform the same basic effect, with the same props, for the same audience, at different times.
Aside from the basic handling, a second method involves the cards being dumped into a paper bag, after the 'magic' moment, along with the card box, and the signed card is found inside the box.
Another involves a 'do as I do' plot and a second, ungaffed deck.
A third effect is a sandwich effect, using a second Joker. And a fourth and fifth effect include an ACAAN effect and a card penetration effect.
This is only the tip of the iceberg.. as you will adapt effects you use in your current routines to these props. I would say '..the possibilities are endless', but that's so cliche.. although it's sorta true…
What's included? You receive a red Bicycle gaffed card box, a gaffed card (Joker), and approx. 2 hours and 15 minutes of video instructions. You supply a normal red Bicycle deck. Although the video may seem long.. it is full of additional handling ideas and additional effects. The basic effect is covered completely in the first 20 minutes.
The last portion of the tutorial video includes a section of 'Ideas' the Murphy's team developed to add even more versatility… Maintaining the specs card on top. Double Undercuts Basic spread controls and bottom steals Applying key card principles A special section on 'peeking' the selected card.
The video quality and sound are typical Murphy's Magic quality. No problems at all. You can watch everything online or download the video.. (1.93GB)
Needless to say.. I highly recommend UNHANDED, and at $34.95 it is a real bargain.
JP published a compilation of performances to Youtube.. you can watch it at: https://youtu.be/UgXqNbSA1D0

Mental Dust by Quique Marduk - A Review
This is the Ad Copy:
The spectator selects a card and write the number and suit on a sugar envelope. The magician opens the envelope, pours the sugar on the spectator's forearm and the selected card appears written on the skin.
It is the old and great "ashes on arm" trick but on the spectator's skin, and can be done with ashes, salt, sand, pepper or any dust.
You receive a special gimmick and a holder to get the trick always ready to be performed.
3 patterns available: 8 of Spades, King of Clubs or Waves (ESP cards)
Includes a video download with explanations and ideas.
My Thoughts:
Mental Dust is a smart take on the classic David Blaine 'Ashes on Arm' effect. It was a sensation when it was first introduced.. and I can honestly say I've truly amazed spectators with this trick.
It is being offered by Quique Marduk.. creator of Osmosilk, Human Slot Machine, Portable, and A Bar Kadabra.. plus utilities like Triple Thumb Tip Holder, Harlequin Cigarette Holder, and Fake Egg.. among many other creations.
David's Voodoo Ash was dependent on the magi being able to determine a name selected by a spectator, and then writing that name on his own arm with soap. Marduk's method results in the magi placing the identity of a card on the SPECTATOR'S arm.
He has created a special 'stamp' that can be kept in the performer's pocket until needed. A substance, provided, is placed on a small stamp which has one of three patterns.. 8 of Spades, King of Clubs or ESP Waves.. (one choice per purchase). This stamp is secured in a well-designed holder to keep safe until you're ready to 'stamp' your spectator. Of course, this is accomplished in stealth mode.. following suggestions from Quique.
Once the spectator has been stamped, the magi can force any of the three selections, and eventually reveal the 'prediction' on the spectator's arm by rubbing any one of a number of different substances over the unseen pattern. The promo video shows the magi rubbing a sugar packet or salt over the pattern to make it visible, but you could also use darker substances for fair-skinned spectators, like ashes, when available.
Training is via Youtube video, about 9 minutes in length, and an enclosed instruction sheet with pictures. Also included is a Spanish video and written instructions.
Watch the Murphy's video to get a good idea of the outcome.
Included are one stamp of your choice, a stamp holder, a substance holder to allow you to rub the coating on the stamp, and a special holder to hold the stamp in position as you 'stamp' the spectator.
The price is $35.00, which is not too much to pay if you're excited about the possibilities. I don't think many performers will purchase at this price-point out of curiosity. 20-25 may have been a better price.
This is a straight-up effect, adding a nice twist to a classic. Good thinking and fairly simple handling make it desirable for all those who remember the reactions they received from the original Blaine effect.

The Vault - Moving Pen by DingDing - A Review
Video Download
The Ad Copy states simply...
"This is a visual effect: a pen through a hole on the card and moves freely.
No magnets, no thread, easy to learn!"
My Thoughts:
DingDing is a young performer/creator who to date has created about 20 different effects for The Vault. This is his latest.. and definitely one of my favorites.
The magi shows two cards with a small hole punched in the middle of both cards. The two cards are shown front and back, and then one card is placed on top of the other with the holes aligned. A pen is stuck through the holes and, again, shown front and back. The magi then moves the pen up and down. As the top card moves with the pen, the bottom card remains stationary... which -should- be impossible. Afterwards, the magi removes the pen and again shows only two small holes in each card.
DingDing has published about 20 Effects with Murphy's 'The Vault', including...
Hijack
Hijack 2.0
Sink Coin
Ink Permeation
Amazing Straw
Dice Through Card
Each effect ranges in price from $6 to $12 and involves a bit of DYI.. but not too much DYI.. as I am not a fan of creating your own gimmicks and probably wouldn't review Moving Pen if I were "put off".. Actually, it's not a bad idea to know how to create your own gaff from scratch.. providing it doesn't take hours to construct.
The Moving Pen tutorial video carefully explains everything you need to know in about 13 minutes. You will need a hole punch, some repositional glue, an Exacto knife or razor blade, and a couple of playing cards. The tutorial uses two Queens and a blank card, but you do not have to use a blank.
The gimmick can be created in 20 to 30 minutes. DingDing does a good job explaining and demonstrating everything you need to know. The video is a single shot and not overly sophisticated, but it doesn't need to be. No problems with the video or the sound.
Can you hand the gimmick out for inspection..? After your performance, you can openly show both sides of the gimmick.. but you cannot hand it out for close inspection.
Should you buy it..? Since this is a quick, visual effect.. I suggest you go to the Murphy's link and watch the video performance. It gives you everything you need to decide whether this is something for you. If you perform effects like the pen thru dollar, you'll enjoy performing Moving Pen. Remember, there's NO threads or magnets involved, and you can easily create several of these gimmicks at a time and they should serve you well through many performances.

Rewrapped.. by Brandon David and Chris Turchi - A Review - Gimmick and Online Instructions
This is the Ad Copy:
ReWrapped is the ultimate chewing-gum life-hack!
Imagine this. You take your old, chewed piece of gum. You stretch it and snap it back into a brand new gum stick. Then, the gum stick visually wraps itself in its original packaging! Now you have a fresh, 100% real gum stick ready for you to re-chew or save for later!
Devised by the creative duo behind "Envy-Lope" and countless other amazing effects (Brandon David and Chris Turchi), ReWrapped allows you to take a familiar everyday object and perform a mind-bending visual chewing gum restoration! Your spectators will think you've discovered a real-life infinite glitch!
Customizable to assorted brands of gum across the world!
Detailed instructions with Brandon and Chris
Resets in seconds
Easy to perform
Takes little pocket space
Perfect for socials and professional occasions
Highly Visual
Restore your gum again and again and again with this refreshing take on visual gum magic!
This is ReWrapped, by Brandon David and Chris Turchi!
My Thoughts:
First... After creating my own gimmick and performing for both friends and strangers, I can say the ad copy is fully correct. There's NO stretching of the truth to hook us poor magicians. That said.. here's my thoughts.
ReWrapped is very strong transformational/restoration magic. A piece of gum is removed from the mouth. You stretch the gum between the fingers to display its malleability.. And in a blink of an eye.. you show the gum to be fully restored to its original stick form. Then, almost as quickly, you show the stick ReWrapped.. You can then unrap the gum and put it back in your mouth. Don't believe me? Watch the video...
ReWrapped is a quick trick. You know... one of those tricks that's over before you have time to realize you need to pay attention. There's nothing wrong with that technique, and its suddenness certainly catches the spectator's eye.
ReWrapped is a remake of Sticky Situation by Andy Leviss. I've seen Andy's effect performed by both Justin Flom and Rick Lax with great success. The difference is ReWrapped claims to be a more advanced version. I can't say for certain as I am not familiar with the handling of Sticky Situation.. other than the promo trailer, which on the surface looks very similar to ReWrapped. I'm making an educated guess when I say ReWrapped probably offers a more sophisticated gimmick and 'possibly' eliminates a switch. Forgive me if I'm wrong...
Everything is carefully and meticulously explained in the 44 minute video. A gimmicked piece of 'gum' serves as the base, and you are shown, step by step, how to create the finished gimmick. There IS some DIY involved.. although it's primarily wrapping the gum with your favorite brand of chewing gum paper. Provisions are made to allow you to use different brands from different parts of the world.
I'm going to publish the table of contents from the instructional video. I think I can do this without giving away too much. It will give you a good understanding of what's covered....
What's in The Box
Dressing The Gimmick
The Gimmick
Different Handling
Performance
Explanation
Paddle Move Details
Angles
Patter
Toss Display
Mouth Stretch
Simplified Version
Snap-Restore Details
Again, the video is 44 minutes, and taught by Brandon David and Chris Turchi in an informal setting. There are close-ups of any critical construction, and you should only need gum, a pair of scissors, and a little double sided tape to complete any and all work.
If you like quick magic, I could almost say 'startling magic'.. definitely consider ReWrapped. There's no doubt you'll have some very surprised and astonished
spectators.!!

What's in the Box?
1 Untouched Instructional DVD
(Please note that this Instructional DVD has English subtitles with Japanese audio.)
My Thoughts:
SansMinds presents UNTOUCHED by Ryuhei Nakamura. I was not familiar with Ryuhei before watching this DVD, but it became obvious he is one of a number of Far East performers with great technical skills. SansMinds chose him to teach this DVD because of his use of invisible thread while performing an entire street routine, consisting of a number of spins, floats and flips with glassware and silverware.. all wrapped in a telekinetic performance. He literally goes down to street level, no table, and performs for his audiences.
I am going to tell you what you'll find in UNTOUCHED. I am not going to tell you how easy or complicated it is.. as I have never performed thread work to this degree. My personal knowledge is limited to small pieces of thread and a few loops. I do own an ITR (invisible thread reel).. but I have a perpetual fear of failure.. and that's on me.
First.. Is there an elephant in the room? Sort of.. The entire DVD is recorded with subtitles. I think Ryuhei's skill level is such that SansMind couldn't resist the opportunity to get this on video. As so much of the DVD is technical skill, and as so much of that skill can be demonstrated in virtual silence, I personally don't have a problem with subtitles. The translation is correct and readable.. even for someone like me.. who has a problem with small lettering. They do not 'hurry' through the subtitles, and give you ample time to see what you need to see. Again, this is a very 'visual' subject.. and the quiet times and careful demonstrations are somewhat more important than the words.
Ryuhei explains his choice of clothing, flooring, and locations. There are good reasons for making good choices.. and he explains it all. He is well known for his outdoor work in broad daylight, which can be quite challenging -if- you are not familiar with the subtle nuances.
Yes, Ryuhei uses ITR's.. sometimes two for safety sake.. and goes into detail about what to expect from small reels, medium reels and large reels. He covers where and how to place your reel to maximize its use and protect the thread. He gives time to wax, portions and placement.
In his personal performances, and most of his demonstrations, he uses a plastic, long stem glass and a fork. Ryuhei devotes a portion of the DVD to demonstrating his street routine... which he then breaks down, move for move, through much of the video. He wears black clothing and uses white, thick thread to give you a strong visual of exactly where and how he makes each connection and all the appropriate hand movements to sell his telekinetic premise. The DVD is filmed using a table, although he prefers to perform on the floor in real life. This is the crux of the teaching.. and why the subtitles are not a problem.
Part of the demonstration includes metal bending (the fork), which is not covered in this DVD.
About twenty minutes of the DVD is Ryuhei demonstrating how he makes connections with items borrowed from spectators. Ink pens, cola cans, bottles, mint packs, coffee cups and glasses are covered. Glasses are particularly interesting because of their ability to fold and unfold. My favorite is his hookup of a deck of boxed playing cards. He spins the box, opens the flap, and pulls the cards from the case.. and it's a very convincing visual.. Probably my favorite moment on the DVD.
The final portion of the video is a section on troubleshooting. Ryuhei deals with using multiple reels in case of thread breakage.. and how to deal with tangles. My personal fear has always been breakage, unwarranted I'm sure, as there are several ways to deal with it.
Total run time is about one hour and five minutes. UNTOUCHED is sold as a DVD, and not a download, which is a plus for me. The video quality is good and the sound is good. No complaints.
If you have an interest in thread work or learning thread work from the ground up, this is an ideal DVD. I don't know where else you can learn an entire thread routine from one source. You'll learn a number of tricks and tips from UNTOUCHED.. and I'm pleased to recommend it to all you invisible thread guys and girls out there...

MAGIC - Harvey Raft - A Review
Ebook Download
This is the Ad Copy:
This book mostly deals with decks of cards that Harvey has designed over the years. We have included with ALL of the effects in this books the graphics needed to print YOUR OWN DECKS. The face of the cards have been designed to be seen on a large stage. Harvey gave these faces a lot of thought and discovered that if he had lots of pips on the cards people could easily see them from a distance.
The backs might be different with different marking systems, but these are explained with each trick. You are supplied with downloads as PDFs so you have FULL ACCESS to print the cards yourself and can upload them to the various printing websites that offer this service. If you do print them off, you will have a unique deck of cards that most magicians will not own and will fool not only lay people but also your magic friends.
My Thoughts:
Harvey is a unique guy.. in that he spent the earlier part of his life performing as a clown. Not magic or mentalism, mind you.. but as a clown.. associated with the Shriners. Aside from voluntary work to raise money for Shriner hospitals, Harvey began to perform house parties and corporate events. He also co-wrote two books dealing with change bags and Christmas routines as well as co-created a number of different magic effects.
An untimely illness almost twenty years ago put Harvey out of business. But, you know what they say about keeping a good man down.. He attended a magic club meeting loaded with both magicians and mentalists, and the fire was re-lit.. Not just for magic.. but for his new-found appreciation for mentalism and mental magic.
During the past twenty years, Harvey has become, in my personal opinion, one of the foremost authorities on Zener cards.. and the use of Zener cards in mentalism. He has also created many other effects using his own specially crafted decks. I have spoke with Harvey numerous times via phone from his home in Toronto, and he has a mathematical mind to rival anyone I know. Period..
Aside from performing mentalism shows, he has over 50 effects published by Murphy's Magic, which probably led to the publication of this ebook and it's sister publication.. All For Fun and Fun For All..
Magic Squares, Zener Cards, Book Tests, Mnemonica - without the Mnemonics, Memorize TEN decks of cards, Shell Games, Image Cards, Super Zener, Flag Recognition, More Mental Picture Effects, Afghan Bands, Custom Zener Card Effects, Color Changing Water, Change Bag Effects, Movie Magic, Card Forces and Dice Tricks.
This is a partial list of the many different type effects in "MAGIC". Most are number based and require mathematics to work properly. -But- they do not necessarily require you to use mathematics. Many use principles that require you to learn a basic method to derive the solution. For instance, a number in the first spot of a three digit number may represent a suit. The second and third numbers may represent a location. Using the numbers are a simple process and don't require mental finesse on your part, only remembering a basic order or placement. As many effects use marked props or decks, the handling is simplified even more.. making your job an easy one..
A number of effects require a special deck. Harvey has designed the decks and included templates for you to have printed. He has also included printers he has used who he knows to be both reliable and affordable. For Harvey to provide all the decks in your purchase would cost hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Instead, you read the effects and decide what YOU like, and what you need to complete the effect. This allows you to have custom props and custom decks that make your performance an individual event.. something probably never seen by your audience.
With approximately 50 different effects in MAGIC, covering a very broad spectrum of performances, I can't be overly specific with a wide array of examples. What I AM going to do is publish one of the many effects to give you focus on the type and quality of Harvey's work. This effect, titled CARD SHARKS, shows the thinking behind the curtain. It allows ANY average magician/mentalist to know the identity of ANY one of over 500 cards in a stack. Personally, I think this is an amazing feat of memory.. that's actually NOT a feat of memory, but appears to the audience to be just that..
(This effect will be available in Special Issue #12 of The Magic Roadshow.. which will publish around the end of February, 2022. Sign up now to receive this issue for free.)
I am recommending Harvey's ebook to my friends and readers -if- you have any interest in performing mental feats, card magic with unique cards, or parlor magic effects with a very unique twist. MAGIC is one of the most original works out there, and
as such.. will be one of your best magic purchases ever if you're willing to create the props and practice the magic.
MAGIC's Editorial Director is Paul Romhany and all Artwork and Magic is courtesy of the author.. Harvey Raft.
I've included a short list of SOME of the many effects.. to give you a general idea of the content... (This is approx. half of the many effects)

Princess Card Trick by DARYL - A Review
(Gimmicks and Online Instruction)
This is the Ad Copy:
A mindreading trick that will blow your audiences away!
A packet of cards is fanned before a spectator's eyes. The spectator is asked to merely think of ANY ONE of the cards (NO FORCING). At no time does the spectator tell anyone, write down or indicate his mental selection to anyone.
The Magician removes one of the cards from the pack to commit himself to a specific card! The magician shows the remaining cards and the thought of card WAS the selection removed from the pack.
This SELF-WORKING miracle is extremely easy to perform and instantly resets.
Princess Card Trick cards are printed by the United States Playing Card Company on red, Bicycle Rider back cards.
Note: written instructions no longer included. All instructions are via video link.
My Thoughts:
The Princess Card Trick is a classic of magic. It was probably created by Henry Hardin around the first of the last century.. as reported by T.Nelson Downs in The Art of Magic.
At some point in time, it has been performed by many of the great performers, including Dai Vernon, who influenced Daryl to market this effect using Bicycle brand cards. This release is part of The Legacy Line, which includes several of Daryl's classic effects. ( The Whole Thing, Jumping Jacks, Ultra Monte, Bizarre Assembly, Morphed, Presto Printo, Papa Rabbit, Rainbow Ropes, Crossed Thought, Ultimate Ambition, Red Prediction, Enchanted Cube, and The Amazing Acrobatic Knot )
This release is a stylized version of Daryl's effect.. intended to support Daryl's family since his tragic passing, and to re-introduce a new generation of performers to several of his more popular effects.
The magi shows a spectator five different face cards and asks them to mentally select one. Afterwards.. the magi mixes the cards, removes one and puts it in a pocket. He then asks the spectator to reveal their selection.. and after they do, he removes their selection from his pocket.. while showing the four remaining cards in his hand to NOT be the thought-of card.
Many folks are familiar with The Princess Card Trick, as it has been published online as an app and/or program. That doesn't change the fact that this is still, after all these years, a strong effect that requires very little practice. In fact, the instruction video for this effect includes a method that adds an extra layer of magic to PCT. The magi, after the card is named, pulls the named card from his pocket.. before showing the card missing from those in his hand. I've included a link to a performance video below.. giving you a chance to view the complete effect.
Video demo of this effect... https://youtu.be/97bl-ac90zE
There are no printed instructions. Instead, there is a nine minute online video that teaches everything you need to know. All the gaffed cards are included, and they are
official Bike gaffed cards. The packaging is first class and very stylish. And, the effect is a classic that still fools the heck out of an audience. If you were a fan of Daryl.. and who wasn't.. you will find a place for The Princess Card Trick.. either in your repertoire or your pocket. At only $9.95.. this is money well spent.
