Last Night's Game Recap:
Let's just say this win was made possible solely because Carter stood on his head for the first period in a half. He stopped 15/16 shots in period 1 alone(his overall game total ended up being 35/37.) With Hextall in the building, it had to feel good to perform like he did and prove he's definitely improving.
Here's the game breakdown:
Every Phantom not named Carter Hart pretty much sleep walked through period 1. 4:22 into the period, TJ Brennan turned the puck over at his own blue line and the Checkers worked a pretty passing play that ended with Andrew Poturalski managing to lift a puck up and over top of Carter to give the Checkers a 1-0 lead. Checkers pressured pretty much the rest of the period, but Carter was up for the task and 1-0 is how the Phantoms skated to the intermission despite the Checkers leading in shots 16-8.
The second started out with much more of the same as Checkers were pressuring like mad, but Carter kept finding every way possible to keep it out of the net and give his team a legit chance to win. At 11:02 of the period, on the PP, Phantoms finally solved Checkers goalie Alex Nedeljkovic when Phil Varone received a pass from Greg Carey and fired it home. At 14:07, on yet another PP, Mikhail Vorobyev received a pass along the near boards from David Kase, and recognizing, Nedeljkovic was down and out, he fired it at the open net to give the Phantoms a 2-1 lead that they would carry into period 3.
Period 3 saw the Phantoms receive quite a bit of PP time; including 1:34 of 5-on-3 time, but they couldn't find a way to cash in, and it unfortunately ended up finding a way to bite them at 14:42 when Julien Gauthier took a pass from Jake Bean and fired a shot toward the net that, based off his and Carter's reactions, appeared to deflect past Carter off of Mike Vecchione to tie the game at 2.
To OT we go.
Phantoms controlled most of the OT period, and Carter just looked on for the most part. The most notable instance for Carter may have been when he came out to the left faceoff circle to beat a Checker to the loose puck, further proving his confidence is definitely up, and has rebounded after the shaky earlier games in the season. At 3:42 of OT T.J. Brennan took a pass from Mikhail Vorobyev at the Phantoms blueline and carried it into the Checkers zone where he fired it past Nedeljkovic to give the Phantoms the 3-2 win.
Carter has now won 3 out of his last 4 starts, and has allowed less than 2 goals in 3/4 as well.
NEXT GAME: Friday(11/16) Phantoms travel to Providence to take one the Providence Bruins for the first time this season. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05PM EST(4:05PM PT).

Game Recap
(This is for last night's game. Tonight's starts in about an hour, and Carter may not be playing if head coach Scott Gordon sticks with his usual "rotation" tonight will be Alex Lyon's "turn".) @andremarcusburky
The Phantoms were dominating the first period until the scoring got started 17:46 into the first period when Springfield's Paul Thompson wrapped around the back of the Phantoms net and Carter read the play a fraction of a second too slow and by the time he slid across his crease Thompson was still able to squeeze the puck between the blade of his left skate and the net post to give the Thunderbird's a 1-0 lead late in period one, and that's how the period would conclude.
In period two, just two mins in, the Thunderbirds took a penalty. On one play the Thunderbirds cleared the puck and a Thunderbirds player was in ahead of all Phantoms, so Carter came out to get the puck to prevent any dangerous chances. He got the puck to defenseman TJ Brennan and the Phantoms quickly broke back toward the Thunderbirds zone where Brennan made a quick pass to German Rubtsov who gave it to Chris Connor who quickly got it to Greg Carey who fired it over Thunderbirds goalie Michael Hutchinson's shoulder. Shortly after that Taylor Leier took a penalty at about the 3:40 mark of the period - which he did not agree with, but the refs didn't want to hear what Leier had to say and the Thunderbirds got a power play. At the end of the power play there was some type of miscommunication amongst the Thunderbirds and Hutchinson may not have thoroughly warned his teammates the power play was coming to an end, and they lost control of the puck in the neutral zone just as Leier jumped from the box and picked it up at the Thunderbirds blue line. At 5:43 of the period he skated into the Thunderbirds zone on a breakaway and beat Hutchinson on the backhand into the top half of the exposed net. Phantoms and Thunderbirds took coincidental minors almost immediately after the Leier goal and at 7:36 Mike Vecchione took a lead pass from Chris Connor and broke into the Thunderbirds zone on a mini breakaway and beat Hutchinson backhand five-hole. Exactly one minute later, while the Phantoms were short handed after having taken yet another penalty, Cole Bardreau picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone and skated in on a breakaway and scored backhand top shelf to give the Phantoms a 4-1 lead. The Thunderbirds finally got a little sustained offensive zone time and at 13:03 of the period Dryden Hunt managed to beat Carter with a quick release that Carter got a piece of, but not quite enough as it snuck just over the goal line to make it 4-2 Phantoms. Refs checked the goal for a good 30-45 seconds to make sure it had fully crossed the line, and ultimately ruled it had. The period wasn't quite over yet, though. At 16:23 the Phantoms crashed the Thunderbirds net hard, and with Hutchinson down and out German Rubtsov got his stick on a loose puck in the crease and managed to nudge it into the net. The refs also checked this goal to make sure no players' hands had knocked it into the net, and to make sure it had made it fully across the goal line. And with that, the period would come to an end with a five goal Phantoms outburst for the first time ever.
Period three started off on the scary side. At about the 5:30 mark the Thunderbirds were down 2 men when the Thunderbirds Michael Downing collided head first with the Phantoms Chris Connor drawing some blood from Downing and knocking him out cold for a few seconds. Players immediately signaled for trainers and medics. Downing did move his arms and legs before the medic team immobilized him and lifted him onto the stretcher. He did give a thumbs up as he was wheeled off the ice. Can only hope he'll be okay. No penalty was assessed to Connor as the collision was completely unintentional and accidental.
Once play resumed at the 5:43 mark of the period, with the Thunderbirds still down two men, Greg Carey scored his second goal of the game after a nice pass from Phil Varone. There was a bit of back and forth play before Taylor Leier scored his second of the night at the 9:49 mark of the third period to make it 7-2 Phantoms. Chris Connor would put the official nail in this one at 14:29 of the third period to make it 8-2 Phantoms.
PERSONAL THOUGHTS:
About the Leier penalty in the first(which he scored immediately after) I honestly am not sure there was a penalty which is why Leier argued it. He was called for tripping, but I honestly didn't see him trip the guy. His stick didn't look like it was anywhere near the player's legs/feet. It looked like he had just lost an edge and fell, but because Leier was "too close" to him when he fell the refs believed Leier tripped him.
I truly hope Downing is okay. That whole situation was pretty scary, but it was good to see him moving extremities and give a thumbs up as he was wheeled off the ice.
As for Carter, while goal one was not good, the fact it didn't rattle him or cause him to allow another goal shortly after shows his mental toughness. He's also playing the puck a lot more, as I kind of pointed out right before the Phantoms first goal in the recap. He obviously doesn't get an assist on the play, but without him collecting the puck and getting it to Brennan that play likely turns into a dangerous chance against for the Thunderbirds rather than a goal for the Phantoms. He did not have a heavy work load, as his D was pretty good in front of him all night, he was only forced to face 18 shots, and stopped 16 of them. With exception to the first goal, he did stop the shots he needed to stop.
NEXT GAME:
Tonight(11/10) versus the Charlotte Checkers at 7:05PM.

The Everett Silvertips are about to start their WHL WCF, the Flyers are currently terrible and appear ready for the golf course, and I suddenly have quite a bit of time on my hands(more so than I did), so I started this to discuss the future because it’s much brighter than the present. If you have Facebook, feel free to join the group. I have it set to “closed”(only because NHL fans from other teams can get nasty, and I want to control the environment a bit), but send a request, I’ll approve, and we can start discussing Carter, the Silvertips and, of course, the Flyers future as well as share any photos, or other interesting Carter related things.
I will post breaking news through the rest of the Silvertips season as well as game updates(Wins, loses, series lead, series disadvantage, etc), and any other interesting tid bits that pop up and are Carter/Silvertips/Phantoms*/Flyers related.
*This will likely start next season, when Carter is undoubtedly a Phantom.
*NOTE*: Above I mentioned opposing team fans and nasty comments, and want to quickly elaborate: NO, you DO NOT have to be a Silvertips/Flyers/Phantoms fan to join the group. I do realize you can be a fan of the player and dislike the team he plays for(I have a couple of those myself.) If you’re just a Carter Hart fan who wants to show support, that’s cool, too. All are welcome! I will approve anyone. Once I accept your request, feel free to invite friends who you know are also fans. All I ask is that if you’re not a Silvertips/Phantoms/Flyers fan that you respect the Silvertips, Phantoms and Flyers. Nasty comments will not be tolerated and you only get three “strikes” before you’re banned from the group.
Another little important note about the group being “closed” is it will also make it so that people who share their photos from games or signings don’t have them randomly stolen by random people who could just stumble across the group, don’t join and just search through it for the sole purpose of stealing photos.(Yes, this happens a ton more than you’d think. Trust me!)
Anyway, enough rambling. Feel free to send a request and we can start having fun.

As messy as Flyers current goaltending is, with the signing of Felix Sandström yesterday, and knowing this guy will turn pro next season, it's fun to sit and imagine what Flyers goaltending COULD look like in 2-3 years. 😍❣️

Carter Hart Season Awards
Carter Hart went 31-6-3 through 41 games only allowed 3+ goals a total of 4 times and walked away with a .947 save percentage, a 1.60 GAA, and 7 shutouts. In total, he only allowed 65 goals the entire season. So it should be no surprise then that when the WHL announced their season awards today he took home a few.
▪️Named First Team All-Star
▪️Named Western Conference Goaltender of the Year
▪️Named Western Conference Player of the Year
The goalie of the year and player of the year awards both qualify him as a finalist for WHL Goaltender of the Year and WHL Player of the Year awards that will both be presented at the WHL awards on May 2nd, 2018.
This could very well be Hart's last junior season. He is set to turn 20 on August 13th and that will make him eligible for the AHL. He already has a signed contract with the Philadelphia Flyers and very well could, and given his junior career stats over the last 3 seasons, probably WILL "graduate" to AHL to start the 2018/19 season.
But before he gets there, up next for Carter Hart is the WHL playoffs. He and his Everett Silvertips teammates will take on their fellow state rivals the Seattle Thunderbirds in round 1 with hopes of a long playoff season in their not-so-distant future.

CARTER HART IS A GOLD MEDALIST!
After last night's game against the Czech's Carter Hart told TSN reporter Mark Masters that he had to be better. He was not pleased with his performance and he felt he had another gear he could tap into. Well, he more than delivered! He was Canada's best player all night!
The Swedes came out with a lot of jump from the first drop of the puck, and they kept coming in waves. Canada didn't appear like they could find that "next gear" like Hart, who stopped 35 of 36 shots, had. The first period concluded without any goals and Hart had 15 saves.
In the second period, Canadian Captain Dillon Dube scored the first goal of the game off a feed from Jordan Kyrou, giving Canada a 1-0 lead. The Swedes didn't falter, instead they kept coming. While Canada was on the Power play, Sweden's Tim Soderlund was able to skate in and absolutely rip a shot over Hart's shoulder that rang the underside of the crossbar and went in. Period 2 concluded knotted at 1.
In period 3, with 1:40 left on the clock, and overtime seemingly immenent for the second Canada gold medal game in as many years, Tyler Steenbergen got to the front of the net and deflected a Conor Timmins shot past Swedish goalie Filip Gustavsson to give Canada a late 2-1 lead. The Swedes pulled Gustavsson for the extra attacker and Canada took advantage as Alex Formenton stole the puck from a Swede near the Swedes blueline and shot it into the empty net to give Canada a 3-1 lead with 56 seconds left.
While the bench was going insane celebrating the two late goals, Carter Hart remained cool, calm and collected in the Canadian's goal crease. As soon as the clock struck zero and the Canadian's were officially gold medalists, it was a totally different story. Hart flipped his helmet off, threw his arms in the air, and awaited the dog pile and hugs from his teammates. A huge smile replacing the tears and heartbroken look that everyone remembers Carter Hart for after last year's shootout loss to the US.
Canada Player of the game: Carter Hart
CONGRATS TO CARTER AND THE REST OF TEAM CANADA ON THE WELL DESERVED GOLD MEDAL!
Hart's official final stats from the tournament: 1.81 GAA, .930 Sv%, 5-0-1 overall record, 1 shutout.
Oh yes, and most importantly: 🥇🏅

The media is making entirely too much out of this than there truly is, in my opinion. I think they(TSN) were initially just trying to show he is a 'creature of habit'("superstitious"), which is fine. I mean, more players are, than are not; some refuse to admit it, some willing acknowledge it. Every player is different. However a few media members; mainly on Twitter, have made this into a bigger deal than it actually is. Is Hart superstitious? Perhaps. Stubborn? Most definitely! With that said, I'd prefer he be 'a creature of habit' (or "superstitious") and stubborn while doing things his way and feeling comfortable than attempting to play somebody else's "game", and feeling uncomfortable. If being 'a creature of habit' (or "superstitious") helps him to play better in his eyes, then so be it. It's not hurting anybody, so leave him alone.
But that's just my take on this. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Interesting Fast Fact:
Last night both the Everett Silvertips and Canadian Junior teams got shutouts. The two goalies credited with the accomplishments currently have one thing in common: both are the current backups to Carter Hart.
