IT’S BEEN A HELL OF A WEEK FOR WALLACE PEARCE. coming off the cotails of their third debate, and the rumors circling around about tragic happenings all across the city, wally should have every reason to fear mrs. carter. anyone in his shoes would, but not him. on the topic of the explosive crime rate ( figuratively and literally ), he made a vow — to “crack down on the criminals and the cops allowing it to happen. for the past few years, we’ve lived in fear of these people — and i am going to put a stop to their plans one by one. even if it means rebuilding from the ground up.” the room shook with thunderous applause, and the councilman shot a glance at the criminal hiding in plain sight, smirk etched on his face. the game is swaying the people, and she was losing her grip.
“ i’m going for a walk, ” he tells his staff. “ alone. there’s no need to come with me if i just go down the street. look, if it bothers you that much, i’ll go out the back. ”  cigarettes and lighter in hand, the councilman peers both ways and motions to his campaign manager that there’s nothing to be afraid of. the door shuts and he begins to move down the street, eyes focused on the path forward, and never looking behind. his own arrogance gets the better of him as he fails to notice the limousine turn the corner, slowly approaching him as he moves. two of his campaign staff ( that he doesn’t even remember the names of ) follow him from where he came. they lurk and move faster, almost as quick as his own shadow, until they grip his shoulders.
the door of the automobile opens and he’s slammed against the wall, bouncing back onto the seat. wally feels the roughness of a pistol pressed to his chest as he takes a look around the vehicle — the same blood red as the carpets of the carter hotels adorning the walls. across from him sits the mastermind herself, almost blending into the walls in red of her own. and yet, even when confronted with the bull, wally pearce still grabs the horns.
“ so it’s not a coincidence. you get some of my team sick, you try and win over my kids...you’re twisted, carter, you know that ? this is just more proof against how corrupt you really are. ” the gun gets shoved further into his chest, and the fearlessness wally had brought to the podium slowly shriveled away.
