“Hey Sis! And cause we were gonna hang out? Duh?” He offered up, trying his best to be convincing despite him ducking in her building to hide from the man whose wallet he stole.

“I’m here! I’m here,” He exclaimed, sliding in through the door mildly out of breath after the last stunt he had just pulled off. Dusting himself off, he gave the person across from him an awkward smile, hoping they wouldn’t notice the stolen wallet in his back pocket.

“Hello–” Liv looked down at her older brother. “Also why are you here? In my building? In the elevator?”

“Okay, so, be aware they’re a little out there, but I really think they’re something the whole family can get behind. Angry Mob? Sexy twinkies? A jack in the box?” He started listing some ideas off, trying his best to keep a straight face as he did. But, when Liv said his name, he found himself giving her a little shrug. The corner of his lips tilting up as he nodded. “Yeah, Liv. It’s me.”

“I mean I’d be welcome to give you a list if you like, but it depends on if you can handle them?” He chuckled, as he knocked on the front door of her office, giving her a warm smile as he added quietly, “Hey, sis. Long time no see?”

Stopping as Liv walked out of her office, she raised an eyebrow at the man. She sensed something familiar about him the longer she stared at him. Walking over to her assistances desk, she placed her folder on the desk. “I feel like I should be worried, but why not. Give me your suggestions.” Crossing her arms over her chest, she leaned back against the desk. His next words though crushed everything inside of her. “Carter?” Liv whispered quietly, she covered her hand with her mouth. Looking him up and down for a moment, before she pushed off the desk and walked towards him. “Please tell me it’s really you.”

"Hey- I suggested we ordered takeout, but no. Someone wanted to attempt thai food from scratch,” He teased, reaching across the counter top and picking up an ingredient off of the counter before popping it into his mouth.

“Why the fuck is it that I’m always cooking in this house? This is not my fucking job,” she said as she chopped vegetables intensely. She wasn’t the domestic type and yet she found herself coming more often than she cared to.

“I mean I’d be welcome to give you a list if you like, but it depends on if you can handle them?” He chuckled, as he knocked on the front door of her office, giving her a warm smile as he added quietly, “Hey, sis. Long time no see?”

“Halloween is coming up soon which means it’s about to be my busy season. I can honestly say I’m excited for all of the parties that are coming up. I already have twelve booked up which means twelve new costumes. So gimmie costume ideas.”

“I present people with what they want to see, even if they know it’s too good to be true. But it’s their option if they want to accept it or not,” he pointed out. Most accept it. That was why past girlfriends were always good for the moment but then when they weren’t good it was because their illusion was shattered and they saw who Jacen really was. “Maybe I am a little over the top, but better overconfident than boring, right?” Jacen nodded. He definitely knew that if anyone understood it had to have been her. He wondered so many things about her life. He wanted to know where she’d been all this time. But he’d ask in due time. “It does. You can ball out I’ll even see if I can get my connection to give you a few extra toys too.” Jacen knew most of the people in the fast food places. he frequented them for lunch quite often. “We should chill sometime and catch you up. I didn’t watch much tv as a kid either. Being ousted from house to house and family member to family member, you sort of tend to miss out on a lot of things.” Jacen frowned. “You know, you are awesome, but you should probably should actually put your hands on the handlebars. I’m attempting to have faith in you. Let me believe in you, Kitten.”

“Well, if you ask me, I’d prefer to just see you, fucked up or not, over some facade,” Carter said with a little shrug. When people tried to show her an alter ego, it tended to push her away more than anything else. “And, for the record, I doubt you’ve ever been boring in your entire life,” Carter pointed out with a little shrug. “You have a burger king connection? Wow. You think you know a guy and then it turns out you’re on a date with a celebrity,” She joked, giving him a playful look as she pulled into the shooting rang, putting the bike into park. “Isn’t that what we’re doing now?” She pointed out, a hint of a smile tugging at the corner of her lips as she looked over at him. “That’s what magic is for. Don’t you know? I’m Harry Freaking Potter, Robin,” She told him sticking out her tongue lightly at him.

Grace rolled her eyes.  “I said nothing and I admit nothing,” she laughed.  “That would be a waste of food and if there’s one thing I hate it’s wasted food.”  Having access to food wasn’t always a reality so Grace hated letting things like that go to waste.  “Maybe we can find some different way to prank people.  Everyone in this town seems like easy targets.”

“We could. But, I don’t know. You know I love ya, but I don’t really prank as much as protest in the name of politics? You know with controversial illegal street art and stuff? And I know that’s not really your thing so,” Carter said with a little shrug.

“Most things are,” he told her, knowing that to most women in his past he was that green grass on the other side of the fence until they actually got it. Jacen was all charm on the surface but not that great a person once you got to a certain point. “I know what you said. I’m just clearly confident.” He nodded over at her and her question. “That’s exactly what I mean.” Jacen was never a hopeful man. He grew up poor and saw the word through a single-parent home and poverty stricken lenses, and once he lost that single parent, he’d seen the world through the eyes of a kid that lost hope. That bounced from relative to relative, unwanted until he was old enough to stop burdening others with his presence. “Okay, just remember you asked to be spoiled. The very same. You watch Doctor Who?” Oh she definitely was going to be the first and last woman to drive his motorcycle. Giving up control of the thing he loved most in the world and worrying that she was going to crash was definitely on his mind right now. But as she asked if he wanted to see a trick, he said, “Sure go ahead.” He wasn’t thinking that the trick would possibly be her actually carrying to bike up into the air with her magic. He actually held onto her tighter, but found it pretty cool. “You’ve definitely learned a shit ton more since I last saw you. Still the coolest Pierce I know.” He cheered her on. “And thank you for you know, not killing me. I’m very human,” he reminded her.

“Which doesn’t exactly help your case, now does it?” She pointed out. It was one of the reasons Carter tended to act like such a bitch right off the bat. She’d rather start people off with low expectations, than have to try to live up to something she was not. “Maybe a little overconfident,” She smiled over at him as he spoke. “Yeah? I guess I know what that’s like a little too well,” She said with a little shrug. Seeing that one of her first memories was her parents getting killed and everything after that just seemed to go more down hill. “Does that mean I get all the toys in the kids meal?” She joked, giving him a playful grin as she spoke. “I mean I’ve seen a few episodes? But, being a street kid kinda means you have limited access to a TV growing up,” She told him honestly. “I know. I’m awesome,” She joked, striking a pose as she used her magic to continue to steer the bike. “But, you know, you probably shouldn’t thank me for not killing you, until after the gun range.”

“It does, but I would have even gotten down on your level for this fight,” he teased. Even if he kneeled he wasn’t so sure he’d be on her level, but he could make her believe it. The girl was tiny. But her personality seemed to make up for the lacking in height. “Nah I’m A-Okay. Just it looks like I’m looking through a veil by comparison to what I’m used to.” He was out of touch with humanity. Which was a funny thought considering he worked with humans quite often. “I won’t know if I am until I have one,” he said then. “I haven’t really indulged in food anymore. And I can’t really remember it like it used to be.” He chuckled as she led the way. “Nice to meet you. I’m Kai, though I prefer to call you Little Demon.”

“Fuck you! I’m not that short,” Carter laughed, shaking her head over at Kai as she looked over at him. “It’s weird, huh?” Carter asked quietly, wondering what it must be like to have been given your old life back for only a day. The blonde had been a witch her whole life, but she think she knew Kai meant, because being back with her siblings, in a pretty room that wasn’t quite hers, she found herself feeling like he had described. “You’ll like it. And hey- even if you don’t, at least you’ll get some variety right?” Carter told him with a little smile. “I kinda prefer it too. And nice to meet you too, Kai. Even though now I kinda feel like calling you like Lucifer or something? Or maybe even Krampus? I feel like you’d make one hell of an evil Santa,” She told the other teasingly.

Grace laughed.  “Oh I don’t know if I’d go that far with it,” she teased her friend.  New York had been home for Grace for a long time, so it would be hard to adjust.  “I bet we could make someone scream for ice cream,” she chuckled while they walked together.  “Could be fun.”

“Oh come on! We both know you used to have a crush on that cowboy. Just admit it,” Carter joked, poking Grace’s side teasingly. “We could make someone scream in spite of ice cream too. But, at last, that would be a waste of food so,” Carter told Grace with a grin. The blonde was usually down with a good prank, except when it got in the way of her and her stomach.

“Cheers.” Hitting her glass against Caters with a laugh. “Awww- I’ve waited so long to hear you call me lame. Don’t worry Damien and I will have a family meeting and talk about how we can also move up the latter from lame to embarrassing siblings.” She teased. Listening Carter talk about fighting a rat for a piece of pizza caused horror to fall across her face, then she realized Carter had been joking. Relaxing in her chair once more, she took a long sip of her drink. “How the hell did you end up New York? That’s such a leap from here.” She was honestly amazed that Carter had made it so far away from Georgia, but maybe that was part of the reason why she’d stayed safe for all those years. “Was there ever anyone you were with romantically or friendly wise that helped you get through everything?” Liv asked quietly, she was scared that the answer was going to be no. “I mean– I still have you beat I think? I mean you’re a lot more colorful in the whole vandalism areas than me, but hey. We can be family fuck ups together. Maybe we can be like actual siblings where one gets in trouble, but the other does something worse to get them out of trouble. Which just for reference would be you messing up and I’ll do something worse to cover you so Damien can focus on me instead of you. I’m use to having the ‘you did something bad and I’m disappointed in your life choices Olivia’ talk. I mean hey what are sisters for if we don’t look out for each other.” 

“I guess I’m happy to help?” Carter smiled, shaking her head as she looked over at Liv. A real laugh leaving her lips when Liv looked at her in horror at her joke. “A bus?” She said with a little shrug, a grin tugging at the corner of her lips as she spoke. Not really wanting to get into the gory details of how she had thought they had given up on her, so she ditched town with a group of witches, giving up hope of being found. She paused at Liv’s question, thinking it over in her head before giving her sister a little shrug in response. Sure, she had people who had helped her along the way. Grace, Dylan, and the coven. But, the closer people got to her, the more she seemed to try to push them away. “Oh I don’t know about that. Pretty sure Criminal trumps Flirt. Just saying,” Carter laughed, smiling over at Liv as she spoke. “And thanks, but you don’t have to do that. I would kinda like to have a disappointed in you speech one of these days. Because if someone takes the time to be disappointed in you, that just means they care, right?”

“Sorry…” Liv trailed off with her apology. The last thing that she wanted to do was make this worse than it was already turning out. “You’re still my sister. It doesn’t matter what my age was. I’m glad you’re here though and you’re at least physically okay. Well you appear to be okay if you’re not please correct me.” She didn’t want to misspeak in case she had missed something at first glance. “Are you still friends with them?” She hoped silently that Carter had at least made friends and not went through all of this alone. When Carter gave her the go ahead to hug hug her Liv felt everything inside of her breaking, she wrapped her arms around the tiny blonde woman. Holding onto her tightly as a few tears broke free and slid down her cheeks. “Have you seen Damien yet?”

“Don’t do that either,” Carter told her quietly. An apology being the last thing she wanted. “Debatable, but I guess I’m glad I’m here too,” She said with a little shrug, followed by the hint of a smile. “I- I don’t know,” Carter told the other honestly. Grace and Dylan had been the two people she had relied on more than anything, but after everything the three of them had been through it was hard to decide if friends was the right word for them. “Not yet,” She admitted quietly.

“I would still prefer literally anything else.” She said with a laugh of her own. “Good. I’ll be over to collect you this October and we can send the whole night watching Hocus Pocus. Well at least like an hour and half, but their’s other fun halloween movies or witchy movies that we can watch.” She suggested. A part of her hoped that Hocus Pocus would live up to the hype for Carter after she’d spent so much time talking it up. “I’ve never looked at it that way, but you do make a valid point. Hey go as a sexy human if you want. I support you.” Giving Carter a genuine smile before following with a thumbs up. “I didn’t mean it like that. I’m sorry I just find it cool that you’re able to create an animal. I think it would have been cool to have powers like that growing up. Especially when you’re having a lonely moment it’d just be nice to have something even if it’s not exactly a real animal. I mean it still is real, it’s just apart of you.”

“Well if you preferred it, it wouldn’t be much of an insult, now would it?” Carter pointed out with a knowing look. “That’s because you’re human. You never had to think about it,” Carter said with a little shrug. “I know what you meant. It’s just... it’s kinda like if a white man walked up to you and told you how awesome it must be that you have the capabilities to give birth, ya know? Like, sure, it has it’s perks and I wouldn’t give up Binx or magic for the world, but being a witch itself tends to make you more isolated than not, ya know?”

“Don’t tell Mimi that,” he laughed when she rejected the ever-enticing world of celebrity gossip. He flexed his arm again and made a hissing sound– imitating the creature as she resisted his advance. “C’mon, it’s funny and sexy. Like Superbad. Please tell me you know Superbad.”

Tae grinned and nodded. “Sick, yeah, let’s do it. I’ll chug a beer and then head over to the bank by the lake,” he said, cracking open his beer and winking at her. “Gonna multi-task. See you in five, Pierce.”

“Yeah, sorry, also not really my thing,” Carter told him with a shrug, giving him a look as if to say please stop when he made a hissing sound, imitating the creature.

“Whatever you say, Dragon Lady,” She shook her head, a small smile tugging at the corner of her lips as she pushed herself up off the rock as she went to go grab the ingredients, before wincing ever so slightly as Tae used her last name. She knew she was a Pierce, but it was still weird for her to hear. It was like she had stepped into someone else’s life. The name just didn’t seem like hers yet.

“I’ve been told I have a nice face,” he said with a straight face, shrugging as if it were a fact. “I guess the State of New York’s shitty driver’s license photos weren’t a match for handsomeness.” He was joking, though Mateo didn’t know if Carter would pick up on that. 

“Can’t say I disagree,” Carter said with a little shrug, knowing that Mateo was objectively good looking. “But the dad joke kinda killed it,” She teased, a smile tugging at the corner of her lips at the joke all the same.

I heard it came help with the rejection. And honestly?” She said, with a little shrug, “I’m totally going to regret saying this, but, yeah. I think your pretty.”
