Introducing English singer songwriter Mark Abis, newly signed to Carthage Music, with a video of his newly recorded song China Ship. "Mark Abis writes my kind of songs,” says Carthage partner Joe Boyd, who has had his eye and year on Mark for some time. “And that doesn't mean he's a throw-back - his modern sensibility doesn't get in the way of great melodies, smart lyrics and seductive singing. As is clear from the "China Ship" video, Mark Abis makes music."

Trio Da Kali UK tour dates
Trio Da Kali will be touring the UK later this month. This trio of exceptionally talented and distinguished Malian musicians offer a rare glimpse into the soulful artistry of the griot musician. Breathing new life into the ancient tradition, Trio Da Kali's live performance revolves around the souring, rounded vibrato voice of Hawa Kasse Mady (daughter of Kasse Mady Diabate). The group's leader, balafonist Lassana Diabate provides dazzling virtuosity on the rosewood keys of his instrument, while Mamadou Kouyate (son of ngoni maestro Bassekou Kouyate) underpins the music with punchy bass lines on bass ngoni. Tour dates below. Further information and tickets available here
