ok hot spicy take or whatever: it's really funny to see the "anarchy fuck the government acab" leave left-leaning people's bodies the minute they see someone shoplifting stuff in order to survive (especially if it's a person of color) almost as if it's an aesthetic and nothing more.

had a fascinating dream last night where there was a new, virally popular trading card game - it was called MOUNTAIN (stylised in all caps) and the whole gimmick was that you couldn’t buy boosters or anything - you had to find them?
nowhere sold MOUNTAIN - I mean, I expect players did, once cards were in their hands.
but acquiring cards meant noticing a box lying around, and just….nabbing it? they’d be in weird places - in a skip, wedged high up in a fence, nestled in the branches of a tree? nobody ever saw who left them there, and there was a lot of debate about how MOUNTAIN boxes were sometimes hard to acquire without risking one’s physical safety - but then, that was also bragging rights. especially as harder-to-reach boxes seemed to contain more elusive and sought after cards…
no, I don’t remember anything about the actual gameplay, we never played any MOUNTAIN. alas. I know there were “frame cards” that were literally transparent but for a fancy metallic or holographic border, which I guess upgraded the card they were applied to? frames were super rare, my coworker literally ran up to me in the pub purely to show off the frame he’d just found
dream brain gimme the deets on MOUNTAIN’s actual mechanics, I’m invested in this controversial unpurchasable scavenger hunt game

Wish there was a better social shorthand for “I’m sure they’re a lovely person in their own way but we are so baseline incompatible that being around them longer than five minutes makes me feel like exploding into smithereens.”

Hippocampus
I am a simple creature. I listen to a podcast where they describe a Mech as "like if a smart car had chicken legs and also helicopter blades on top" and I simply have to draw it.

I have a new game out!
The Prophet's Path is a short worldbuilding game for one or more players. In this game, you and perhaps some others will narrate the slow, drawn-out death of a single person.  He will die of the elements, chased on by the forces of your world, watched over by the stars. You and perhaps some others will take on the role of each of these in turn, drawing cards and building his path, the final journey of one who has seen what will come after his death. You will need a deck of tarot cards and a place to put them down. Pen and paper for notes. About three hours playtime, depending on your table.
The end product of this game is a set of constellations that have presided over the death of your prophet.
They make a good unique zodiac for your world but could also serve as a pantheon of gods, a cartel of megacorporations, distant alien alliances, anything your heart desires and your imagination can serve!
Like all of my games the Prophet's Path is free to download and fun to play! If you give it a try I would love to hear your thoughts any time!

Now that the Dracula Daily trend has kicked off what's the meaning and history of vampires as a symbol of antisemitism?
Oh boy, this deserves a long detailed answer, and I am in fact planning multiple posts on this and related topics. But the short answer is that vampires and vampire-like creatures in European and Mediterranean folklore predate Christianity and the development of conspiratorial antisemitism, so the vampire is not inherently antisemitic. However, once the Medieval Christians created the figure of the satanic blood drinking Jew with the blood libel canard, the boundary between the monsterous blood drinking jew, and monsterous blood drinking vampire became highly permiable, and tropes pertaining to each started mixing.
Dracula as a character in particular is a tasty stew of both traditional antisemitic tropes and common 18th and 19th century antisemitic tropes. So the back history of the vampire reentering Western European consciousness is fairly complicated in and of itself, and I want to deal with that in a post about Polidori's The Vampyre, but suffice it to say that Polidori's The Vampyre helped touch off a wave of stage vampires in British popular theater. This vampire was typically aristocratic and foreign, usually Central or Eastern European, and often cast in a highly orientalizing mold. And they were also figures of sexual or sexualized threat, especially to pure British girls.
At the same time in British theatrical melodramas, there was this stock character of the evil foreign seducer, who would lure in pure British girls, and kidnap them into prostitution. For reasons of blatant antisemitism, this foreign seducer character was more often than not, Jewish. And of course Jews were viewed by most of the British Gentile public though a deeply orientalized lens. There was a lot of natural cross-pollinization between these two stock characters of the stage vampire and the foreign Jewish seducer.
Bram Stoker was a theater manager, and his Dracula is in the lineage of these stage vampires. And the movies that were quickly made of his novel, if anything, drew even more heavily on that stage tradition, so it's not surprising that there are so many antisemitic tropes hanging around in the modern conception of the vampire. Nor should it be a surprise that modern antisemites have absolutely loved explicitly portraying Jews as vampires. The og nazis straight up loved this one, and antisemites of every stripe enjoy carrying on their legacy in this.
There is a dark and ugly history here. Vampires are not inherently antisemitic, but there is a real and painful dark and ugly history here.

@raisedbylibrarians what book. Please. I am the trans person you're talking about please tell me what it's called
hey you. indie creator. get rid of the corporate execs and the imaginary writers room in your brain. the cynical youtube reviewers and disney fans who want sanitized uwu gays probably are never even gonna be even slightly aware of your existence. write those unrelatable blorbos and those messy themes and that weirdly sexy violence. you have no one to answer to but yourself. give yourself what you want and maybe some day, some 3 random lesbians from the internet whose interests you have somehow exactly hit will look at your thing and think its pretty cool, and in the end thats all you ever needed

You don’t have to love abortion. You can dislike it. Maybe it even makes you sad. The way you view abortion is up to you.
And maybe if you don't like abortion, you spend your time advocating for proper sex education, access to birth control and other things that have been shown to lower the types of pregnancies that often result in abortion. That's fine.
But what you shouldn't be doing is disrespecting other people for having abortions. You can't take that choice away from people just because you don't like it. Your feelings aren't more important than anyone else's bodily autonomy.
You don't have to like abortion. But you definitely have to respect other people's rights and that includes their right to safe, accessible, abortions.
This has been a Certified Sex ED Post.

if you want to actually materially address child abuse, the single most important thing you can do to start is give children the legally enforceable right to leave any situation they no longer want to be in.
church, extracurriculars, summer camps, school classes, their biological family's houses. notably, these are the places that child abuse is enabled by the child's inability to just fucking leave if they need to. they can't walk out of church if their youth pastor touches them inappropriately; they'll get punished for leaving. if they walk out of their house because their dad hits them, the cops pick them up and give them right back to their dad.
children need the legal autonomy to leave abusive situations in order to even begin to usefully materially address child abuse.
original post by qweerhet because it's unrebloggable but very important
