C. PARKER
there’s an underlining smirk, squinting under the sun and the heat that would eventually fade with a setting sun. he’ll press his palms flat against the bench, outstretched his legs, and keeping his focus on the field. “not to be like, a dick,” parker starts, picking his help up from the ground, and setting it next to him instead. “but we all kinda’ said that—” that is until you met one of these girls, the kind that made you want to change your mind. that was the thing about parker, he never had trouble feeling, if anything, he felt too much, too often. “believe it or not, distractions are going to hit you like a fucking freight train.” and he’d never quite lived and breathed football like the rest of these guys, not when he had so much shit to worry about growing up. football, just happened to be his ticket out. so you’d think, he’d have a smarter head on about the sport– still, when they were on the field, he was focused, anything else? he might actually lose his head if it wasn’t attached to his body. “can’t keep blinders on forever man.” standing to his feet, he’ll slap casey on the back of his shoulder. “besides, you need to get fucking laid.”
“ guess we just ain’t know each other well enough yet.” he said breezily, because really casey could keep blinders on forever. not that he’d view it quite so negatively. growing up in the podunk texas heat tended to do that to you — make you ensure you’ve got your ticket out of it someday. as parker would learn sooner rather than later, casey really was that high strung. for better or for worse.
he draws himself to a stand as the remainder of the team starts to trickle in. a crack of his neck, a quick stretch of his arms, and they’re making their way down the bleachers to begin the actual warmups. “but let’s go back to that uh — ‘ meet a girl that’ll make you change your mind business -” he said, an easy grin flashing his features. “you got a girlfriend?”
#c: parker#that not to be a dick is sending me sksks#pov ur casey's rationale deciding whether to actually try and convince parker he /is/ that lame

D. EMILIA
honestly there was TALK about a hot new freshman on the team who also just happened to be really talented. emilia just had no idea that they were talking about CASEY. he’d always been a talented player but the way the fellow cheerleaders were gushing about ‘his dimples’ and ‘pretty blue eyes.’ it made sense now as her gaze raked in the sight of him. he’d always been CUTE but over the past few years he’d really seemed to grow into himself. “oh? what are we watching?” she gushed with a grin, collapsing down onto the bench, careful not to mess with his notes, “come on…don’t stop on my account.” emilia patted down on the spot beside her, gaze flickering back to the tv, “what game is this?”
it became a whole new ball game when emilia decided to SIT. he really thought he’d have been able to save most of this reunion for another time ( when he was more in his own head ), but all truth be told he should’ve remembered emilia better than that. she was someone that inserted herself into situations without being asked, and when the chips were down casey was someone that wouldn’t say no. “ — just some old footage from last season. one of the last games before the championships.”
he hits play on the tv again, revealing a grainy recollection of footage that looked like it belonged in a nineties movie. “prolly’ real boring stuff, i’m not gonna lie to you.”

V. CLAIRE
“ mhmm — ” claire hums. it’s not that she doesn’t believe him —this rookie has the sense of integrity like a boy scout— it’s more that she’s not so sure his resolve will last all four of his years here. “ well — we all need more than one hobby, ” though she’s sure one to talk on that : practically dedicating every second of her life ( save for a few classes ) to her photography. “ —— nothing wrong with that. ”
"you’d be so surprised how many people would disagree.” he chuckled, but really casey wasn’t terribly bothered. he was smart enough to know what he was getting himself into with dillon, and he doubted even that would shatter his focus here. “ so — how long have you been taking pictures for the team?” he asked, the beginnings of a coy grin tugging at his lip. “i gotta know you’re serious 'bout the craft if i’m gonna give you your money shot.”

C. PARKER
there’s a pause, and he’ll glance back at casey with a pull of his brows into a half smile. “maybe not, but it’s a FUN STOP along the way, cas.” parker reminds him, with uplift in his voice. however, his gaze shifts back to the closed door, and he’ll roll his eyes, leaning down, and fixing his shoes so that he doesn’t TRIP out on the field. however, his voice is rather nonchalant as he continues the conversation. “well to be honest–” he’ll STRUGGLE a minute, and then glance back to meet the other’s gaze. “if barbie only likes you for the position you play,” brows arched, and he’ll shrug. “then she’s kind of a BITCH.” honesty, and brutal- something he’s kind of known for. “girls like that are too high maintenance ANYWAYS, man.”
out on the field blocking sleds and cones are brought out from the shed, the earliest of the team starting to sprinkle in. “either way,” he says, watching passively as they set up what was about to become his life for the next four years, “i don’t really need the distractions.” nor did he really want the distractions. maybe that was boring, or not the ‘ right ‘ way to do being on the football team, but casey was in it to win games and keep his head down. in the end, anything else was derivative of what he wanted. he tried his best to remember that.

D. EMILIA
for a split second, emilia didn’t even recognize the other. realization dawning on her, almond orbs widening ever so slightly. turns out babyface casey was no longer a baby. back in high school, it was sort of an unspoken tradition that the sophomore girls would take in promising freshmen under their wing and casey just so happened to be the one that emilia had taken under. she’d never seen him as anything more than a little brother but it would appear as though they weren’t in high school anymore and casey had aged well. a grin had preyed onto her lips at the sight of him, showing no restraint as she threw her arms around him and engulfed him in a hug. (this shouldn’t be anything new for him, emilia had always been overtly affectionate. hence her problem with tending to lead people on. “hi stranger!” she gushed, pulling away so that she can look at him with an admiration, reaching forward to tussle his hair, “looks like someone decided to grow up, hmm?”
BEFORE HE CAN LOOK UP he’s being engulfed into a hug, and it takes him a second to gather himself before he can place her. emilia … as in, emilia from high school. instantly he’s taken back to a particularly embarrassing sophomore year — before he’s really hit his football stride and is smitten with the hot junior girl he was kinda sorta friends with. he braces himself with a terse smile, wrapping his arms around her waist instinctively. “ ah — not so much.” a sheepish smile tugs his lip, and casey reaches awkwardly around her to pause the old footage. just like him to be concerned about his reel while talking to someone like emilia.
he makes a vague gesture around — to the old locker room tv, his feverish notes sprawled along the bench. “clearly i’m still caught up in my old ways.”

wnslet:
winslet was in the middle of stretches when she recognized the familiar voice — she would know it in anywhere and instantly, her head shot up. she had expected to run into casey at one point or another, but it was still a pleasant surprise to see up. “casey !!” the blonde jumped up to her feet with a grin. “i’d be offended if you told me that i wasn’t just on your mind,” she teased. winslet had been looking forward to this year ever since it was made official that casey would be joining her at dillon university — it wasn’t as if she had ever truly been far, but she missed the days when she only needed to take two steps out of her house to be at his door. “you make sure to tell him i said hi back — and are you kidding ?? it’s great to see you !! how are you liking the school ??”
A FAMILIAR FACE was nice among the rush of new people he’d met in the last few days; especially one that reminded him so thoroughly of life back home. not that it wasn’t a hop and a skip away — but it felt farther the more he delved into life at dillon u. her words spark a laugh in his chest, relief flooding his features because he finally has someone to actually talk to. “dillon is deceptively big for such a small town.” he said, shaking his head. “i think i got lost lookin’ for just about every damn class i had.”

S. CLARA
it’s become almost ROUTINE at this point , and it had been since she started as a freshman at dillon . every time the dining hall beneath her dorm had those cinnamon sugar donuts , she’d sneak a stash out and bag them up for her old man . in between classes , she’d DELIVER them and sit a spell . it was so routine , in fact , that she’d usually just walk RIGHT IN to his office , quietly if he was on the phone or watching tapes , less so if he didn’t seem to be doing much of anything . this time , though , she hesitates when she sees a familiar figure outside of the door .
LOGAN CASEY had been a common name in the sloane household , as dillon had spent a lot of time trying to recruit him … and her father still spent plenty of time listening to high school sports . she glanced at the name on the office door , then back at the boy across from her . “ well , the man talks a mile a minute . i’m surprised the person on the other end can KEEP UP , ” she grinned , leaning against the wall and looking him over , “ speaking of talking , i WASN’T sure you could do it . ” her eyebrows raised , and it was a gentle tease . “ logan casey . or would you rather –– double me casey ? ” there’s a subtle tilt of her chin upwards , “ you’re kind of a small town , texan legend , you know . definitely a household name at casa de sloane . ”
“ — are you serious?” the words tear through his lip like vomit, only for him to realize seconds too late what he’d said. “sorry, i didn’t ... “ a pause, a shake of his head, and casey is recomputing to sound like a normal human being when he talks. his gaze settles on the girl before him: incredulous, but something light sparking his eyes. excitement maybe? disbelief?
“you know who i am.” he points out ( again, stupidly. but at least this time it was coherent ). “sorry, just ... that’s kind of the part i get stuck on here.”

C. PARKER
doesn’t notice at first, he’s too fixated on trying to get the water bottle open, and has to do a double take to catch the girl in question. there’s a tiny shrug, and he’s taking a gulp from the plastic, tossing it back on the ground with a laugh. “why don’t you go talk to her?” it’s mumbled slightly, sitting on the bench, and stretching out his shoulder. but asking casey to go up to a girl like that, just out of the blue, was like summoning witchcraft. there’s a tiny smirk that catches the corner of parted lips, and he’ll nudge the other with his hand. “also depends on where you went to highschool– that’s malibu barbie, she’s not your typical southern belle.”
he’ll concede to that because he did, in fact, go to hick high school — which separated him from blondie by at least a couple hundred miles on a good day. but still, a shrug pulls his shoulders, as he passively watches the now shut locker room door. “not what i came here for anyways.” he says easily, and pulls his attention back to parker. “got a lot of people to impress this first game. barbie ain’t gonna like a second string strong safety.”

“THAT is a beautiful girl right there.” he laughed incredulously, hand moving to guard his eyes from the sun so he could see her better. a cheerleader, one that had just crossed the field into the opposing locker rooms, out of sight. that was one of the unsuspecting ( and BEST ) perks of a school like dillon. there were hot girls at quite literally ever corner.
“how is it that i went through all four years of high school in dillon, and never saw a girl that looked anything like those cheerleaders — ?”

V. CLAIRE
she chalks up his smile and stilling fingers as wins, bobbing her head in a nod. “ something like that. who knows : maybe you’ll give me my money shot this year. ” this might be a long process, getting through to him, but claire’s never backed away from a challenge. besides, it’s a refreshing change of pace from them flirting with her. “ —- and don’t worry if you DIDN’T notice me, ” she says cheerfully, swiveling in her seat to pull her macbook from her bag, “ you wouldn’t be the first —- comes with the job. plus it’s hard to compete with all those cheerleaders, huh ? ”
the thought sparks a laugh in his chest, a genuine one this time. because despite having met little to no cheerleaders as of yet, he has a feeling the disinterest is mutual. that wasn’t what he was at dillon for, and casey was rarely one to take his eye off the ball ( literally and figuratively ). “i’m just here to play football.” he says easily, refocusing his attention on the board up ahead. “anything apart from that isn’t really ... my thing, i guess.”

“WOULD YOU BELIEVE me if i told you, you were just on my mind – ?” casey knew he was bound to run into winnie sooner rather than later, and a part of him was more excited for that than the actual college bit. since she’d graduated and gone off to dillon, casey only got to see her on the odd weekend, and the occasional summer night that they were both free. it made sense he’d find her on the field of all places — just before the first practice of the semester. “dad made me promise i’d say hello at some point today.” a grin tugged at his lip, nostalgic and warm. “it’s nice to see you.”

@beaufcrts
it was pitched to him as a post practice “ kickback ,” but really it was the biggest party casey had seen crammed into a space as small as the dorm. not that he was entirely complaining. it was his first dillon party after all; he could at least try to enjoy it. but even as the thought was running through his mind, a “ — no thanks, i don’t drink” falls from his lips, and mentally he’s kicking himself. not off to a great start. ‘ suit yourself ‘ he hears the girl say, as she retracts the beer. someone on the cheer squad maybe ? he hadn’t caught her name.
caught up on in the blur of it all, casey leans leftward to caleb, an incredulous laugh pooling at his lips. “ gotta be honest — i ain’t even know this many people lived in dillon.”
#c: caleb#i pictured this as cal's party but ngl wasn't sure if he lived in the dorms so#u decide !!

he’s always earlier than he should be for these meetings, which is something he normally does with pride — but this time he happens to catch the coordinator on his lunch break. so he sits in the waiting room and idly picks at an apple. maybe a little nervous, but sparking with excitement all the same. he had a feeling this was about his killer first practice just yesterday, and for that casey was THRILLED.
he almost didn’t notice when the door swung open, but when he does, he double takes despite himself. that was a face he certainly remembered. summer, in the workout room. not that he ever introduced himself, but still. “hey,” he says as he chews, shielding his mouth with his hand. casey gestures vaguely to the office door with his freehand. “ — he uh ... was on a phone call last i checked. seemed pretty important.”

K. DEVON
“ i can live with a terrible science partner as long as you’re a cool person , “ devon replied , pulling dirty blonde locks back into a bun as her eyes took in his notes . they looked like hers , but more coherent . hers were a series of doodles & drawings that meant nothing after the class had been dismissed . “ yeah ? what’re you here for , football ? ” she guessed , dropping her hands from her hair to rummage for a spare pen .
“a SURPRISE, i know.” he said in jest. but really, what other reason would there be for him to stay in dillon besides the up and coming football team — ? like every other guy here just barely getting by in their classes. “s’my first semester here actually.”

R. BENNIE
THE BREEZE HITS HER FACE as she stands atop the bleachers. it was her favorite spot on the football field since nobody dared to run up all of those flights of stairs. but there she sat, eyes closed and the wind began to pick up, lifting small strands of hair into the air around her, tickling her face and neck. she had her anatomy notes ended up being blown out from under her as bennie enjoyed the nice weather. it wasn’t until she heard the rustling of paper in which she finally opened her eyes, and in fright watched as they floated away from her. “motherfucker —-” bennie got up from her seat and skipped down to try to grab the pieces of notebook paper. “hey, you! catch those papers if you can. your life depends on it!”
WELL if his life depended on it ( ... ) he noticed the papers dance across the bleachers from his spot on the field, fresh off the heels of the team’s end of practice cool down. after some hesitation, he moved to catch what he could, which was surprisingly much for how fast the papers seemed to blow away. casey felt like he resembled a chicken — stooped down and pecking at papers that did not seem to want to return.
a wry smile flashes his features, as he finishes collecting what he could. “i don’t think i got all of it,” he yelled from the bottom of the stands, “but i don’t mind jogging the track and seeing if i can find the rest!”

K. DEVON
“ you know what ? there’s no judgement here because guess who has already failed a quiz this semester in a science class ? this idiot , ” she told the other , holding her hands out in display as if this were an accomplishment she should be proud of . “ i’m devon , ” she replied , shaking the other’s hand & offering a small smile . “ now … when you said you were shitty at science … are you being modest , or are you really shitty at science ? asking for research purposes . ”
HE GLANCES DOWN towards his notes at that ( which were really more a bunch of incoherent bio facts joined together ) and laughed. “ yeah ... “ he said sheepishly. “wish it was a modesty thing, but sadly you’re stuck with an actual terrible science partner. — i’m not exactly at dillon for the academics, so.” he shrugs.
