i saw someone on ig say that katsuki was never chasing number one and it was always izuku and while ig can see some potential truth in that cus it sounds cute i absolutely hate when katsuki's character gets dumbed down to just being all about him (and vice versa as well !)

ofc both of their arcs and story have a lot do w each other, you cant have katsu w/o izu n you cant have izu w/o katsu :3 and i do know that katsuki projected a lot of his insecurities and shortcomings on izuku and did want to sort of catch up to him but also bothem did want to be number one not for the sole reason of reaching or surpassing each other but bc at the end of the day theyre both loser hero fanboys lol and i love that about them.

maybe im just not as normal about katsuki as the next person but his line about absolute victory being what makes a hero not only cus you beat the bad guy but cuz you save by winning, really shows his admiration for allmight and he was like the EPITOME of heroism to him that was and forever will be his idol, he has a bit of a warped n unhealthy mindset about it ("i need to be strong above all else even if it breaks me" which both izuku n allmight also lowkey suffer from but all in different ways but i'd keep going on forever if we talked about this i love my katsuki lolol) but their admiration aspirations and goals revolve around the same things and not constantly each other ! like am i making sense. katsuki has his own character arc and issues and conclusions that i think are handled wonderfully, he's very much his own person and finding himself and what it means to be a hero i love him sm im gonna vomit

cw. nothing i think ! fluff, forced proximity i think ? katsuki's a potty mouth but..it's katsuki, reader is a sweetie, reader says thank you and sorry a lot so i mightve been projecting a bit sorry twins lolol :P, katsuki is referred to as bkg and it hurts my heart..like thats my man we aint casual </3 katsuki is lowkey pining but unaware and in denial, reader is in the bksquad ! lmk if i missed sum else !

shit, shit, shit. you were this close.

you pant and groan in annoyance, seeing your train about to depart just as you arrived at the terminal.

shit, you knew you shouldn't have slept in !

you loved taking this train because it never got too full. sure, there were always people commuting early but you had the luxury of not being squished to death in a train that, by the time you got to school, resembled a can of sardines.

you could make it, you were a hero-in-training ! you'd built up your stamina for moments like this...probably ! definitely !

so you continue running with all your strength, you don't think you'd ever run this fast just to catch a train in your life, but you remember what happened to kaminari when he ended up late during mr. aizawa's morning class and you'd rather not have to run extra laps.

so you run, and before you can reach for the doors, an arm stops them from closing just in time for you to jump in.

thanking everything that was holy, you jump in ready, to profusely thank your saviour. but you stop short when you realise who had saved you.

one of your classmates, bakugou katsuki.

"oh." you can't stop yourself from releasing the sound when you see him, but manage to fix your face and offer him a smile.

bakugou squints at you, scoffing before looking away.

well, you'd expected something like this.

you didn't talk to bakugou much. you'd always found him and his quirk amazing, especially during training, and he was actually a really good sparring partner. he took you seriously and he was more clever then you thought he was.(with the way he was always rushing into fights head first)

he also gave you a semblance of advice one time, at least you think so...there was definitely some type of advice hidden in between all that cursing.

but he was objectively quite the asshole.

the only reason you even started hanging out was because kirishima liked to invite him to hang out with you all during lunch. sometimes he tagged along, and sometimes he told him to fuck off. but kirishima always being determined and naturally friendly never stopped asking him. you assume that's why he'd been coming along with you guys more often now. guess nobody could resist the boy's manly charm.

and yeah, he was a dick. but you had to admit his quips and his back and forth with sero was pretty funny. the problem was that you have a feeling he doesn't like you. you specifically, for a reason you're unaware of.

you'd never been rude to him, not even teasing him as much as the rest of your friend group did (watching him blow up was always funnier anyway) but despite that it just seemed like he couldn't tolerate being around you for some reason. he always keeps his responses short and snippy, never even looking your way when you tried to strike conversation.

kirishima had told you once he was probably "just awkward, he's just that kinda guy ! maybe he's just too shy talk to you !" which you highly doubted but decided to keep your mouth shut.

you won't force conversation with him, you had no obligation to. but you do feel thankful that he hadn't let you embarrass yourself. and you really wanna thank him.

it takes you a few minutes to catch your breath, and three stops to find the courage to actually talk to him. but before you can open your mouth again, a huge group of people storm into the train, leaving you to gasp in surprise.

what the hell ? there aren't supposed to be so many people here, at least not in your sacred train !! what was going on ?!

to your utter dismay and irritation, you're being pushed and shoved around for other people to claim their places, growing more annoyed at the people shoving and insisting their was space and telling others to "please move along!"

"fucking hell..." you mutter, irritated.

"could fuckin' say that again."

you look up to see bakugou looking ahead at nothing. his scowl is ever present, if not harsher, and he grunts when he feels someone shove his shoulder, shoving them back with a growl. must be nice having balls of steel.

"oh, woops. sorry.." you apologise, trying your very best not to press up against him too much. despite the train crowding more and more.

"whatever. just stop squirming."

"it's not like i'm doing it on purpose !" you hiss defensively. bakugou rolls his eyes, but remains quiet.

you feel an arm in you rib and instinctively lean away, thus closer to bakugou. his eyes flit down towards you, but again, he says nothing.

"ugh—uhm, thank you—for this morning." you whisper, you're close enough where you're sure he can hear you. "you really saved me back there." you joke.

bakugou doesn't miss a beat, looking down at you with an eyebrow raised "yeah well. guess i felt nice for a change and didn't want you to embarrass yourself, running after the train like an idiot."

your face warms and you furrow your brows 'i was gonna make it."

he huffs out a laugh, you think this is the first time you've seen him do anything but frown. "sure, keep telling yourself that."

suddenly, the train comes to an abrupt halt. causing passengers to exclaim and jolt around, one such passenger bumps against you, shoving you forward. you trip, landing straight against bakugou's chest. your nose hurts as soon as you make contact. you'd seen how ripped this guy was, but was he genuinely made out of fucking stone ?!

your eyes snap open when an arm—his arm, wraps around your shoulder to stabilise you, he mutters curses under his breath towards the train constructor. he smells nice. you brace yourself against his chest.

"watch it, dumbass." he warns lowly. his voice quivers just a bit, like he's holding something back.

"...sorry. my bad." you squeak. the next time the train comes to a halt, you practically jump away from each other, avoiding looking each other in the eye while still being forced so close. you do notice the way that bakugou's arm stays behind your shoulder just a little bit longer. you notice but pretend you don't. looking up at him through the corner of your eye you see the way his jaw is set tight. you quickly look away.

(you don't notice him looking at you.)

after a certain stop, the train finally empties out. you take a deep breath, giving bakugou one last glance before finding a free spot to sit and finally relax your shoulders.

you jump when bakugou sits in the spot beside yours. there weren't that many left open, but there were definitely still way more free spots away from you.

"thanks, again." you mutter, avoiding eye contact.

bakugou grits his teeth, groaning like you saying those words pained him. or irritated him (or both.)

"stop thanking me, just didn't wanna get knocked over. fuckin' bastards fell limp like a stack of dominoes.."

his response makes you snorts unexpectedly, "yeah, it's usually not this full."

"s'cus the previous train got cancelled. somethin' about an accident." your classmate explains.

you blink in surprise, was bakugou—your most explosive antisocial classmate—actually having a genuine conversation with you ?!

and suddenly you can't think of anything else to say besides "oh, makes sense."

"well, anyway...even if you didn't mean to, i'm glad. means i won't have to get crucified by mr. aizawa for being late.."

bakugou scoffs, but it sounds almost like a disguised laugh.

the announcer calls for the next stop, two more stops and you'll get off.

then, a lightbulb.

"oh, hey. i didn't know you took this train too ! i've never seen you."

bakugou doesn't look at you, squinting at himself through the opposite window, his leg bounces.

"usually sit in the front."

you raise an eyebrow "what made you come to the back ?"

"q-quit questioning me, dammit ! your ass should be grateful i was even in the back so you didn't fuckin' slice your hand off !"

now this was more like the bakugou you were familiar with, and for some reason this puts you at ease. you laugh at his defensiveness, and bakugou visibly un-tenses. he leans back and rests his head into his palm, muttering about you being "so damn weird..."

you manage to arrive to school without any further hiccups. and despite bakugou not actively making conversation with you, his strides almost match yours, like he wants you to catch up to him. and even though he barely gives you a nod when you wave at him later in between classes, you feel like you've gotten closer to him somehow. anyway, you're just glad to know he doesn't despise you.

when kirishima invites him to hang out during lunch today and you and your other friends wait for a response from him, some of your friends egging him on, you catch the way his eyes meet yours before he reluctantly agrees, calling your friends "fuckin' clingy".

he sits next to you during lunch.

kaminari whines about it, saying something about how he stole his spot.

"you snooze you fuckin' lose, dunce face." bakugou quips, causing your table to laugh.

unbeknownst to you, bakugou wonders why he'd decided to agree to hang out with you all more and more often lately. you and your lame ass friends had become a constant nuisance in his life. especially you.

ever since he'd noticed you, really noticed you and your strength when you'd paired up with him during training, you'd always been hanging in the back of his mind. your voice was always the first one he heard in crowds, your face was always the one he just so happened to look for see first, and your stupid perfume seemed to cling to him everywhere he went, ultimately always leading him to you.

shit, you were really fucking annoying.

unbeknownst to you, bakugou wonders why he decided to sit in the back as well.

literally everyone can tell whenever you're mad at katsuki. it pisses him off because he feels like he can hide the fact he's bothered and that he's gotten his bf privileges revoked pretty well, but apparently not. not at all.

because all of his friends periodically come over to ask him what's wrong.

"you okay, man ?" asked kirishima. and when katsuki waved him of the boy gave him a thumbs up and an "i'm always here when you need it !"

did he seriously look that miserable ?!

"woah dude, you look more constipated than usual ! you good?!" denki exclaimed, even offering him a very unnecessary arm around his shoulder and an "if you need anything, i'm here to talk !"

every single fibre of self control was needed for katsuki not to grab him by his throat and fling him out of the nearest window.

and sero, oh so gracefully, had told him "woah, you look terrible. trouble in paradise ?" even snickering to himself. "better go apologise soon, loverboy !"

katsuki had to leave the room to not shove his hand down the bastard's throat and accidentally let off a howitzer impact. completely by accident, of course.

it seriously does bother him a bit because...what the hell ?! you don't have that much power over him !

well apparently you do, because the moment you make up all of his friends look oh, so smug. somehow, they all notice that he looks way happier today, something he himself hadn't even noticed !

okay, so what if he was in a better mood now ? of course he was ! who enjoys fighting with their partner anyway ?

"oh wow, you're even pudgier than i thought !"

shouto looks up from the photo album to look up at you, his expression barely betrays how confused he is. he raises a brow.

"...is that a good thing ?"

"mhm." that's all you say. shouto decides not to ask for more. you flip another page, squealing in surprise when you see another baby picture of your boyfriend.

"holy shit, just look at those cheeks--"

"it's not that bad." he grumbles slightly, feeling a bit insulted (and secretly a little embarrassed.)

"your head is massive !" you laugh, your boyfriend pouts slightly at you sitting next to him on the floor of his living room. usually, he's not out here much but he likes being here with you.

today though, not as much. he curses touya for ever telling you the location of this cursed item. then again, he should've known.

"if you're gonna keep making fun of me i'd rather we put this away."

"no, no !" you yelp, squeezing the book close to your chest when he reaches for it "i'm not making fun of you, honest ! you're just so cute it makes me wanna squeeze you silly." you squish his cheeks and he visibly relaxes, like a cat.

"you already do that, angel." shouto sighs.

"baby you, i mean. i wish i could've met you when we were younger, we would've been the best of friends."

shouto's eyes soften then, leaning into your touch "i'm sure we would've been, love. but i'm glad i'm not just friends with you now, at least."

"always so smooth.." you pick the album back up, shuffling through some more pages and laying down on your back with a groan. shouto lays down on his back next you, always wanting to be closer now that you'd let go of his face. there's some pictures of him and his siblings as babies that make you laugh, like the one of his oldest brother sitting on top of him while he's red faced and in tears, touya holding a casual peace sign at the camera. (shouto scoffs under his breath when he sees it, like he remembers some kind of incident)

you land on a picture that makes you pause. it's a picture of him on his mom's lap, he's showing her a toy car and looks like he's describing it in great detail. his mom looks down at him so softly, with a sweet smile on her face while she listens to what you imagine is a very riveting monologue.

it makes you pause, and it makes your heart squeeze. shouto is quiet next to you.

"hey, it's your mom."

your boyfriend hums in response "she's been asking after you."

you smile, "tell her i miss her next time you visit, okay ?" and he hums again. you're really inspecting the picture and you realise--

"y'know, you like a lot like your mom."

shouto's breath gets caught in his throat. he's silent and he wants to speak but his throat feels clogged, he forces his voice to come out anyway, it comes out quiet, surprised, and almost..meek.

"...really ?"

you don't notice his change of tone, happily continuing "yeah, yeah! especially..." you trail off, flipping back a few pictures to another one with both his parents and him tucked behind his mother's leg as he takes his first day of grade school picture in his cute little uniform.

"yeah, here! especially in this one !" you point. shouto leans in some more, and he searches around for any resemblance because frankly, he doesn't think he sees it much. other than the color of his eye and strands of his hair he can't seem to find anything.

being your own person is nice, but you'll always have something that likens you to the people that brought you in the world. and shouto had been told so often by people who didnt know any better (or maybe some did) that he resembled his dad; his quirk, his face, his gaze; it always went back to him. him, him, always him. at some point in his life it made him genuinely sick, but he's learned to live with it now.

but you, you see his mom. in his cheekbones, in the shape of his eyes and in the way that he smiles "pretty like his mommy", apparently. even tracing his features and nodding, so sure of yourself, calling him a total "mama's boy".

and shouto can't help but be honest, "i don't really see it..." he trails of shyly. his heart burns.

but you're going through hell and high water to convince him otherwise. like he's crazy for not seeing it even though all he's been seeing was the aftermath of the man who had ruined his family. you point out how rei's little dimple matches his and how his voice is soft and airy like hers. they both have the same preferences and specific mannerism that he himself hadn't even noticed. and he can't help but smile.

Kind of a request if you're taking those <3 Feel free to just vibe with me abt it tho instead lolll Idk how up to date you are with everything, but Katsuki's heart recovery and all that. Tbhhh I'm a little lost on it bc I'm not perfectly up to date with it all and have vague idea of it. But I feel like with the whole having to keep himself calm and stuff for his heart, he'd probably never really be 100% back to being able to constantly do things the way he was before. Like he'd have to take a day to relax his heart every once in a while when it's too overworked even when he's a pro. Imagine having to have him stay home when you notice his behavior's a little off. Like he's not acting feisty or trying to get into little play fights with you, because he's trying to stay calm without telling you. Idkkk, it's kinda cute to me (not the idea of a heart injury!) having him have to reluctantly take a day off bc you forced him to. Just turning on a corny little movie he grumbles about while cuddling with him. Or making him relax with you in anyway you can think of because you're not letting him leave yours sight until he starts feeling more okay.

"...the hell are you on about ?"

katsuki scowls, looking down at you in surprise, his thumb rubbing your arm slows to a stop.

"oh katsuki, i'm not stupid. you've been to the bathroom like ten times since the movie started. if you wanted to watch another movie you could've said that." you giggle, desperately trying to hold in your laughter when he flushes at your accusations.

your boyfriend squints "...shut up an' watch your movie." he dodges, scoffing when you laugh.

katsuki's heartbeat is slightly irregular today, and you're watching spiderman into the spiderverse.

it's just slightly off beat, just a bit...off. not exactly in tune with your own when you try to match your breathing.

thump...ba-dump.....thump

to him, it doesn't matter. it never does, because as long as he can keep moving he's good to go. as long as he could keep standing and as long as he was breathing nothing was impossible for him.

clearly, you don't think the same as him, you're watching spiderman across the spiderverse again.

it's a good movie, the best movie (in your humble opinion). and you're only watching it because katsuki had grumpily told you to "just pick whatever." when choosing a movie for your impromptu chill day but it's almost become a ritual of sorts, whenever katsuki gets a sick heart day, this has always been the movie you put on.

you've completely memorised the script by now but you're still just as excited about it. katsuki thinks that's the only good thing about being stuck in the house like this.

years ago, doctors had told him that while him surviving what he'd been through was a miracle, he was still only human. and being human meant giving his heart a break once in a while. once in a while, when his heartbeat felt too irregular and his chest ached just enough for it to feel uncomfortable and it'd hurt to breathe every few hours, he couldn't be dynamight anymore.

of course, to him, he was always going to be dynamight, day off or not, so you're here to remind him that on off days like this, he could just be katsuki. flesh and bone and slightly off kilter heart.

but katsuki had never been good at just...being: being quiet, being still...he'd never been the type to just sit still and watch a movie. he likes commenting on the acting or the characters actions, cus he would definitely not make the same mistake, but he's watched this movie so many times he didn't have much to say anymore. he's even caught himself repeating some of the lines with you under his breath. (it always makes you giggle when you catch him, but he pretends not to notice.)

besides that though, he's always a bit antsy, always ready to go and always on the move. which is always a bad combo for someone who desperately needs to sit down and rest.

that's why he was so quick to get up to "go to the bathroom"— you won't allow him to do anything else, because apparently he needs to do stupid stuff like "take it easy" and "rest"—just for an excuse to walk around and stretch his legs.

he's always ready to get up to grab you something to drink or eat from the kitchen before you can even stretch to do it. of course, you're always quick to tell him off "sit your ass down ! i got it." you'd laugh while he grumpily flops back into the couch and crossing his arms.

"if it's the bubble guts we have some—"

your boyfriend groans, he dips down to nip your ear "shut the fuck up. stop talking." you laugh, pushing him away weakly while he bites your ear.

"katsuki, stop being rowdy ! you need to—"

"yeah, yeah be careful. i fuckin' got it. yer startin' to sound like my damn doctor." he grumbles, he continues nosing around your neck to nibble at your skin like a dog.

"well, somebody has to remind you to take a chill pill once in a while. it's like you'll die if you're not moving, it's insane." you sigh, running your fingers through his hair when he settles down into your neck, breathing you in.

"you did not just say chill pill." he snorts, giggling into your neck.

you slap his back, biting back a snort "wh-so what if i did ?! shut up, you !" you desperately try to hold in your laugh but fail miserably and soon you both find yourself giggling like idiots on the couch.

when you both calm down, katsuki noses at your jaw, his teeth scrape against it. "m'fine y'know ? 'ts not like i'm incapable of doing anything. not gonna drop dead just because i'm moving too much," he mumbles a quick snarky "by your standards."

you sigh, he nudges his head against you, putting more of his weight onto you so you're taken in by his warmth completely.

"i know that...but i wish you knew when to..relax, you know ? you being here means a lot to a lot of people," you grab both sides of his face to get him to look up you "it means a lot to me. i need you to be healthy and ready to kick ass without risking anything happening to you."

his eyes soften when he looks at you, leaning into your palm after hearing your words "there's always gonna be risk, sweets. s'just what i gotta do."

"that doesn't mean i'm gonna let you chip away at yourself, not if i can stop it." you insist. "i've already almost lost you more than once, lord knows you've got no regard for your own safety, psycho."

your boyfriend flushes at the sincerity, he can't help looking away for a bit. you can tell he's got a snarky remark at the tip of his tongue, but he decides against saying anything, he leans into you more.

"y-yeah, yeah okay—i got it, alright ? i just...wanna be the best. and not just for this hero thing but for..." he trails off.

"for this...us..y'know ?"

he was just so cute, you're heart might start beating erratically next !

you smile sweetly, leaning forward to press a smooch to his nose "cutie." you coo.

"shaddup.." his nose bumps against you when he quickly leans up to get more of you "gimme a proper kiss, at least."

"you're so needy, whatever happened to saying please, hm ?"

katsuki grumbles, diving in for a wet long smooch, grabbing the back of your head to pull you against him. he pushes you downward to deepen the kiss, but you push his chest.

"kashukiii—" kiss "no—" muah ! "no—being rowdy !" you lecture in between kisses and giggles. your boyfriend groans. he pulls you up with him so you're positioned on his lap, hands on your hips.

"fine, just sit here then." he pats your sides, mouthing and kissing your neck. he squeezes your hips when you melt into him, humming into your mouth. his hands run up, up, up, 'till he gets under your shirt but he simply keeps them there, just to feel your skin. he pulls you to sit even closer, you can his heart beating against your own. slightly off kilter, not in sync. but you decide it was yours to protect like he'd protected you and so many others, until he'd be able to go off into the world and be dynamight again.

for now, you'll keep katsuki here with you.

thump...ba-dump.....thump

before katsuki can go back to taking the lead or possibly take things even further, you're pulling away suddenly with a squeal against his mouth.

"ou, ou wait ! this is my favourite part !"

"for fuck's sake...you watched this shit like four thousand times already !"

"katsukiii, you ever hear of the shoulder touch..?" you giggle pressing your hand and forehead against his. he rolls his eyes in response, but he's reminded of why he's doing all of this in the first place seeing you this happy and giggly. you win by saving right ? and katsuki would do anything to save your smile and keep it all to himself. so of course, he does the "hey..." with you at the same time.

you're the only reason days like this aren't hell on earth for him, no matter how many times you watch the same movie or how many times you joke about his bathroom trips, he wouldn't trade these days for anything else. despite how sometimes his chest aches and it hurts to breathe a little bit, you make him forget, even for a little while, and let him be your katsuki and your katsuki alone.

synopsis: you got in over your head and now you're shoulder to shoulder with the brash, attitude-driven man you've been in love with for far too long... only to realize he's actually kinda sweet?

The air smelled like vanilla and something sweeter—hope. It swirled around you, light and dizzying, as you found yourself shoulder to shoulder with none other than Katsuki Bakugo. The two of you sat side by side at the kitchen counter, arms brushing occasionally as you prepared the ingredients for a cake.

Just a cake. It wasn’t for anyone. No birthday. No celebration. Just an indulgent act of free will. Maybe also a little bit of pride—after all, you’d told Katsuki you were a better baker than him. A bold claim, especially considering you had never actually baked anything before. But how hard could it really be?

What you hadn’t anticipated was how much being this close to him—how feeling his warmth radiate off him—would rattle your heart. How it would shake in your ribs like a lockbox, refusing to stay shut.

Maybe challenging him to a bake-off was never about the cake at all.

Maybe it was just an excuse to be near him.

He’s pouring the flour with precise precision, brow furrowed, bottom lip jutted out slightly—focused in that way he always is. Like even this dumb cake matters.

And that’s when you know.

This isn’t just a crush.

You’re in love with Katsuki Bakugo.

“Hey, idiot,” he growls, voice low and gruff, not even glancing away from the bowl. “What’s got you all zoned out over there?”

You blink, shaken from your thoughts. “It’s nothing. Just in my head.”

He hums—nonchalant, lazy—and knocks your ankle with his. “I got time. This shitty cake’s gonna take a while. Nothin’ better to do.”

You look down, fiddling with the edge of the counter. “Seriously. It’s nothing.”

He huffs. “Alright,” he says, then suddenly swipes his hand across your face, smearing flour on your nose.

“Hey! Why’d you do that?” you squeal, mock anger in your voice, laughter already bubbling out of your chest.

He just shrugs, still not looking at you. “Got you to laugh. That’s why.”

The air stills again, cinnamon-sugar haze floating between you two like something sacred. It hits you low in the belly—like a sugar rush, like nausea, like knowing something too soon. You’re in love with him. And the realization settles on your tongue like buttercream frosting—thick, sweet, impossible to ignore.

You both go back to prepping ingredients. It’s quiet now. Warm. Comfortable in a way that makes your skin hum. You have no clue what you’re doing, but Katsuki? Katsuki’s already mixed everything. Eyes narrowed in concentration, like he does with everything. Even something as small as this.

He pads over to the fridge, and you watch him—honestly, shamelessly—in awe. His back muscles flex beneath that black tank top, arms scarred and strong. And kind. That’s what people miss about him. He’s kind, in the loudest, brashest, most infuriating way.

He returns with a container of strawberries—red, plump, glistening with dew droplets.

“Why’d you get strawberries?” you ask, voice soft, heart loud in your chest.

He grunts. “They’re your favorite, aren’t they?”

Your face flushes. “I mean… yeah. Yeah, they are. How’d you know that?”

You swear his ears turn pink—just a little. Or maybe it’s the lighting. Maybe it’s your lovesick brain playing tricks on you.

He mumbles, quieter this time, “You’re always at that dumb bakery. Always holdin’ those strawberry cakes.”

Then he laughs, turning to look at you. “You always got frosting on the corners of your mouth.”

And he’s beautiful when he laughs—bathed in sunlight, blonde hair glowing, eyes crinkled just right. Sharp and warm at once. He smells too sweet, like a toothache. Like maybe he tastes sweeter than he ever lets on.

And somehow, you just know he’s a toothache waiting to happen.

He turns back around and drops the chopped strawberries into the batter. “We’re making strawberry cake. Figured I can do better than those damn extras at that bakery.”

Your heart stutters. You open your mouth to say something—anything—but Katsuki beats you to it, swiping a floured palm across your face again.

“Suki, why?” you whine, half-laughing.

“You’re too quiet,” he says, like it’s the most obvious thing in the world. “You’re never this quiet.”

You don’t respond. Instead, you dip a spatula into the batter and fling a glob onto his shirt.

“Oh, you fuckin’ brat—!” he growls, lunging toward you.

You duck and dart away, the cramped kitchen barely big enough for the two of you. You both fling batter, laughter echoing off the cabinets, slipping around each other in a haze—two grinning, lovesick idiots flinging batter, and running away from feelings.

Until Katsuki catches you by the waist.

He hoists you up, but you twist in his grip, smearing more batter onto his cheek. The two of you tumble to the floor in a heap—hair sticky, faces floured, breath coming in short, laughing bursts.

Katsuki’s hand rests on your knee. Everything stills.

“I suck at baking,” you breathe.

He arches a brow, then lets his expression fall flat. “Yeah. I know.”

You look down, trace little circles across his hand where it holds you.

“Just wanted an excuse to spend time with you,” you admit, voice quiet. “Stupid, ain’t it?”

He snorts. “Yeah. Stupid.”

“Hey—” you go to swat him again, but he’s faster. He grabs your wrist gently, fingers flexing.

“Stay still,” he says—more of a request than a command. And then he’s leaning in. Slow, like he’s giving you time to run. But you don’t. You stay.

This is the moment.

The one you’ve dreamed about—

And then the bag of flour tips.

The whole thing spills down on him from the counter.

He looks pissed—face screwed up and white with powder—but you just laugh, reaching up to brush it from his lashes. He blinks red eyes through it all, and you kiss him.

Soft. Unsure.

Until he kisses you back.

And then you know.

You know for certain that you are in love with Katsuki Bakugo.

Flour-covered and all.

He grips your hair, angles your face, kisses you like he means it. Like he’s trying to memorize you. He tastes like vanilla and spice. Like something sweet, something secret.

Something only you get to know.
