Dark Crystal Canon Reading/Watching Order.

there is a whole bunch of dark crystal stuff other than age of resistance and the movie, so let’s go ! under the cut is the order i read & watched in, and the order i recommend for you guys as well:

( please remember, this covers only the canonverse, and i apologise if i have accidentally left something out. as much as i encourage you to buy these if you can afford to, i know it can get expensive, so if you want my copies of anything, message me. )

THE AGE OF INNOCENCE - END OF THE AGE OF HARMONY

1. creation myths. a three-part graphic novel series delving into the origins of the skeksis, mystics, gelflings, the world of thra and the dark crystal itself.

2. shadows of the dark crystal by j.m lee. something dark is spreading throughout thra, and there are those who will do whatever it takes to ensure that its true nature remains hidden.

3. song of the dark crystal by j.m lee. the story follows naia and kylan as they seek help from the gelfling clans to stop the skeksis implementing the next step in their evil plan.

4. tides of the dark crystal by j.m lee. following the defeat of skekLi, the cave dwelling amri join the quest to warn the all maudra of the skeksis' plot.

5. flames of the dark crystal by j.m lee. the fourth book in a series of original young adult novels set in the world of jim henson's ‘the dark crystal’.

6. the dark crystal: age of resistance. netflix series, as well as a comic series due in september.

7. legends of the dark crystal. a two part manga about two gelflings, lahr and neffi, who put up a resistance against the oppressive skesis. a third volume was planned, but never released. **i do not have a copy of this.

8. dark crystal tales by cory godbey. follows jen, kira and fizzgig before the events of the film.

END OF THE AGE OF DIVISION - BEGINNING OF THE AGE OF POWER

9. the dark crystal (1982). the movie that started it all. jen and kira embark on a journey to save thra by returning a shard to the crystal.

9a. marvel comics super special vol. 24. a retelling of the film in comic book format.

9b. the dark crystal novelisation, by a.c.h smith. book is based off of the script of the original 1982 film.

END OF THE AGE OF POWER - THE AGE OF REBIRTH

10. power of the dark crystal. 12 volume comic series set hundreds of years after the film. a mysterious girl made of fire steals a shard of the crystal in hopes of reigniting the dying sun.

11. beneath the dark crystal. 12 volume comic series that follows the events of the power of the dark crystal.
