Characters being compared to dogs always use terriers or pitbulls or something for their metaphors. “They grab on and they don’t let go” “They keep worrying at it until it’s dead” etc.

Anyway, I want to see collies used as metaphors. Albert Payson Terhune style. “He was like an attack dog–making slash-and-run attacks, cutting them up worse every time, never staying in range long enough to get hurt but circling back over and over.”

Destroyed by the knowledge that Natalie actually loved soccer and was good at it and taught Kevin’s son a few funky tricks because she saw the kid struggle and she looked so happy when his son did it and they won. Like some of those girls didn’t really like soccer all that much or just did it because they were competitive or their friends were doing it but Nat needed it but thought she was poison who didn’t deserve happiness so she never did

Still thinking about Javi being let down by the people he was closest too.

Travis was Javi’s brother. After the death of their father Javi still loved Travis even after Travis was an asshole. Travis stuck his neck out for Javi and multiple times to keep him safe and Javi loved him so much he was willing to stick his neck out for Nat because Travis loves Nat.

Nat made Travis think Javi was dead, but Javi wasn’t angry because he knew she was protecting his brother. Nat made Javi mittens for warmth and kept reminding Travis to help Javi and be there for him and Natalie watched him drown.

Shauna encouraged Javi’s art and allowed him a place in the chaos to escape away. A person to lean onto while Travis was grieving their fathers death. Javi even carved a wolf for her to show he cared. It makes sense she couldn’t stand to watch herself carve him apart.

Travis sent Javi away, Nat watched him die, and Shuana had to crave him up.
