This is art of a race/monster I homebrewed for a DND campaign I was going to do for my birthday a while back but stressers sadly ended up with the game getting cancelled, but I still have the juicy lore!

This race/monster is called Toyfolk. There are multiple subspecies of Toyfolk, and the specific kind depicted in this art is the three members of the puppet subspecies: hand puppet, string puppet, and box puppet.

This race was birthed from magic gone awry (as all the best races are, really) and are essentially a hybrid of construct and living being, with an outer shell of cloth, wood, etc etc, and an inner shell of flesh and blood (think the toy monsters from the movie Krampus).

The hand puppet variety requires a host to move and speak, and without one is in a catatonic state, quite small in size due to being, well, a hand puppet. The box puppet doesn't require a host and is well protected by a hard outer layer in the form of the box it resides in but cannot walk due to a lack of legs. The string puppet is somewhere in the middle, not -needing- a host, but moves much better with one, slinking along the ground like a snake when no one is holding its strings.

Due to their many limitations, the puppet subspecies of Toyfolk are usually used in their society for gathering information and other stealth-based actives, especially the hand puppet, as while it cannot move without a host, it can still see and hear, so can be left hidden on shelves or in drawers to gather information undetected.

Despite Celestia's orders to quarantine and stay away, Luna has been up close and in the deepest parts of a pony's mind. She knows she severing the mind from the body causes both to die, so if her sister wont take action against those who are sick - she will. If the pony of the light wants to fiddle endlessly with a cure, then the pony of the night will take care of the darker parts without remorse. Its not like these pony's aren't scared of her anyways, she was only recently released from being banished from the moon.

Moon Dancers melancholy, an escape of Canterlot.

When word of the returning cutie pox made its way to Celestia, she hadnt been worried. sickness rises and falls but she was sure it would go away shortly. within a couple hours though, she could feel something wrong - the death of harmony. She was alerted to what had happened by Zecora when she arrives in the city 12 hours after the first infected. Bringing the brightest minds in the city together, she locked them all in the castle to work on a cure. Moon Dancer wouldnt even stay more than a day... and now seeing the horror of the new Cutie Pox there is no turning back now.
