Y’all I want to throw massive kudos out to the Roger Williams Park Zoo for a choice they made today: rather than joining in on a GenAI trend all the zoos are doing right now, they chose to support and spotlight an artist on their staff!
The big thing right now is these GenAI “figurine toys” of zookeepers or zoo management. And instead they shared a version drawn by one of their staff!
Go give them some love, if you’re on FB. Too many zoos are really getting into GenAI and just whitewashing the climate change / copyright issues that come with it, so I want this zoo to get as much positive feedback as we can muster for making a better choice.

#i was sure for a second this was an edit to make the moose fly#but no that terrifying amount of weight and antlers was doing it on its own#leaving aside the ability to judge tree gap width so well#this feels like someone standing beside derailing freight train as they film it

The Agriculture Department will not require poultry companies to limit salmonella bacteria in their products, halting a Biden Administration effort to prevent food poisoning from contaminated meat.
The department on Thursday said it was withdrawing a rule proposed in August after three years of development. Officials with the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service cited feedback from more than 7,000 public comments and said they would “evaluate whether it should update” current salmonella regulations.
The rule would have required poultry companies to keep levels of salmonella bacteria under a certain threshold and test for the presence of six strains most associated with illness, including three found in turkey and three in chicken. If the levels exceeded the standard or any of those strains were found, the poultry couldn’t be sold and would be subject to recall, the proposal had said.

Do you know how to honestly improve government efficiency?
Increase their funding.
No joke. A lot of what creates inefficiency (in government or private industry) is not having sufficient resources.
- Not having enough staff to get work done.
- Having to use outdated technology that takes longer, is harder to learn and maintain, and can be wasteful in and of itself.
- Not having *good* management that can identify actual inefficiencies in work and can advocate for the employees. Ones that can let upper management know if employees are overworked and going to burn out, so that work load can be adjusted and/or more people hired.
The thing is, the idea that people need more resources to work more efficiently might confuse the people that only can understand Big Number bigger than Little Number. But the truth is that part of what makes government* "inefficient" is people won't properly fund it.
#us politics#government#tax the rich#tax the corporations#People love to blame government as this uniquely bad work place#but private industry is just as full of inefficiencies#The return you would get on properly funding all levels of government would likely amaze you

This is how terrified they are of people in government telling the truth to the American people about what they are doing behind the scenes. Cockroaches hate sunlight.

Vanillite cake pops, a refreshing sweet treat on a warm day! 🍦🩵 With vanilla cake and ganache inside to match, of course.

I actually dropped several while attempting fridge Tetris the other night (sadly, beyond the help of any hyper potion), but thankfully I was able to salvage a few and reuse the worst ones to make a couple itty bitty baby cones 🥹🍦

it is admittedly, especially as a non-Catholic but someone who is extremely cognizant of how the Catholic Church's opinions have an impact worldwide, kind of wild to watch people go "well, yes, even the liberal papal candidates are going to have some regressive positions, it's the fucking papacy, you want the best option" and yet somehow, during the 2024 election, the "America is an Empire" crowd couldn't manage that. Like I think you guys just fucking hate representative democracy because it means you have to read and check boxes instead of lying on the couch reveling in your powerlessness.
