I have a bone to pick with Casualty/ Holby. Why do their surgeons always look so immaculate? Why’s Frieda got INTACT eyeliner? Cos I look like a sweaty egg who’s just crawled through a hedge backwards with panda eyes. I’m getting severely jealous here. Am I missing an important beauty step?

two years since Teddy found out about Sah and Paige kissing, and also two years since Teddy thought “how dare Sah kiss my girlfriend………. before kissing me?? we’ve been best friends for way longer than they’ve really known Paige so why would they kiss HER and not ME??” at least according to me!
my favourite explanation of Teddy in that storyline will always be that he feels jealous towards both Sah and Paige about both Paige and Sah and he’s trying to channel it all into jealousy towards Sah about Paige because he knows he’s not really meant to feel jealous of Paige getting to kiss Sah

I’ve been meaning to post this before tonight’s episode because Casualty seems to be trying to file off the edges of this storyline these days:
it is VERY INTERESTING to me that Teddy is doing drugs when you remember that Ross, Jan’s son and (although it’s a pre-Teddy storyline) Teddy’s cousin, was a drug dealer and that Jan helped him by smuggling drugs into a prison - yeah, she was scared for his life, but she still did that
interested with how Teddy will end up being treated by Jan and Iain for just doing drugs considering that they both know about that stuff happening and Iain was very involved in making sure Jan didn’t go to prison for it
interested in how they’ll treat Indie for knowing a drug dealer, too, but there’s already a thing in Teddy’s family where if you pay attention to how they talk about Ross compared to how they talk about him, Ross’ terrible choices that he made all on his own are repeatedly blamed on others (Jan and Gethin) while Teddy is held extremely responsible for his relatively-not-that-bad (certainly not as bad as Ross’ little drug empire) actions, actions you could sometimes argue aren’t completely his fault because he’s just acting how Gaynor wanted him to (when he’s being immature)

An Unlikely Voice of Reason
Number of of words: 2,039
Characters: Indie, Cam, Stevie and Jan
Summary:
Stevie didn’t enjoy drama.
Okay, that was a lie. Stevie loved drama (and winding people up using that drama), but not when it impacted her work or the work of the people around her.
Or
Cam and Indie have their first fight as a couple. Stevie gets fed up of Cam’s moping pretty quickly and decides to give out some unsolicited advice.
Here’s some fluff, some sarcastic Stevie (so much fun to write) and my attempt at writing Cam and Indie as a couple!
The fic is below the cut, as is the link to to AO3 page!
An Unlikely Voice of Reason
Stevie didn’t enjoy drama.
Okay, that was a lie. Stevie loved drama (and winding people up using that drama), but not when it impacted her work or the work of the people around her. They worked in an emergency department for crying out loud! The last thing any of them needed was a silly spat getting in the way of saving people’s lives.
Which is probably why she felt the need to intervene when Cam and Indie had their first fight.
Cam was working in cubicles with Stevie when Indie brought her first patient of the day in, Teddy on her tail as she rattled off the handover. The first thing Stevie noticed was how during the patient transfer, Indie’s hands jolted away from Cam’s like he’d shocked her. She sent the nurse a glare as she continued to talk to Stevie, almost as though telling him to back off. Cam visibly shrank back and Stevie raised an eyebrow.
“You guys okay?” she asked as she busied herself sorting out a second line for the patient. “Seems a little… tense in here.”
“It’s nothing,” Indie snapped, directing one more look at Cam before stalking off, Teddy barely having the time to follow her. Teddy looked back at Stevie with an equally confused look on his face, shrugging his shoulders. Great, Indie hadn’t even told Teddy what was going on. Stevie rolled her eyes and ignored the way Cam glanced down at the floor, looking embarrassed. She didn’t have time for this.
“Look alive, Cameron,” she said in her usual, no nonsense tone. It did the trick, because Cam jolted slightly and got to work. He listened to Stevie’s instructions, nodded and made note of what needed to be done. Then he turned on his heel and walked away to have bloods sent off for testing.
What he hadn’t been expecting was for Stevie to follow him.
“Alright Romeo,” she started as they walked. “What’s going on, because just then it looked like you and Juliet had filed for divorce.”
Cam shrugged, opening his mouth to say that it was nothing, only to be cut off as Stevie continued.
“Don’t you dare tell me it’s nothing. Where were the disgustingly gooey heart eyes you’ve been inflicting on all of us?”
There was a pause, and Stevie had been about to give up. If he would’t talk to her about this then she’d just have to tell him to get a grip.
“We had an argument this morning…” Cam trailed off, looking miserable. Stevie resisted the urge to roll her eyes again - she’d gathered that much.
“When we’re on shift at the same time we walk in together,” he explained. “And this morning she was upset. She’d been crying.” Stevie nodded at this, willing him to continue.
“I asked her what was wrong and she said she was fine, but she obviously wasn’t fine so I kept asking… and then she told me to leave her alone and give her space.”
Stevie frowned at that.
“So you’re fighting because she needed some time to feel sad?” she asked, trying to make sense of it. Cam shook his head, looking truly ashamed.
“No…” he hesitated. Stevie deadpanned at that. What had he done?
“I was stressed so I told her that she needed to realise she wasn’t on her own anymore, and that if she didn’t talk to me maybe I couldn’t trust her.”
There was a long pause as Cam braced for whatever Stevie had to say. She blinked a few times, as though weighing up her options before responding.
“Wow.”
That wasn’t what he’d been expecting to hear. Not even close.
“Wow what?” he asked.
“Wow as in you’re an idiot, Cameron,” she finished off for him. “She didn’t say she was fine because she didn’t want to talk to you, she probably said it because she was sad and didn’t want to fall to bits before going to work.”
“But…”
“No buts. I can’t believe you saw sad and and though ‘I must be the problem.’ If she was annoyed with you she would’ve said.”
Stevie crossed her arms and glanced at Cam, who (to his credit) looked mortified. Realistically she knew Cam was only trying to help Indie and hadn’t meant any harm - the man was a human golden retriever for crying out loud.
“Look,” she took a slightly gentler approach. “I know you want to help your girlfriend-“
“She’s not my…” Stevie silenced him with a look. Cam shrank and gestured for her to continue.
“You need to learn that sometimes help is silent support instead of poking an open wound until it bleeds,” she finished off before fishing the next patient card out of the file and handing it over. Cam glanced down at it and nodded, his mind clearly registering her advice.
“Now fix it before someone is forced to put you in the naughty corner,” she joked. Cam chuckled and raised an eyebrow.
“The naughty corner?” he asked, a smile on his face now. Stevie grinned.
“Yep. Triage on a Saturday night,” she clarified as she picked up a patient card of her own and walked back to the waiting area. Hopefully Cam would take her advice, or at least try harder to not looked like a kicked puppy whenever Indie came it. There was only so much pining she could take.
————
The sun was beginning to dip in the sky, casting an orange glow over Holby as Indie finished up for the evening. She was sat in the back of an ambulance, legs swinging out of the back door as she flicked through some final paperwork.
She heard Cam before she saw him, but knew immediately who was approaching her without having to look up. Great, just what she needed.
“Teddy isn’t here,” she started, still not looking up from her work. “I know he mentioned going to the pub with you and Jodie later.”
Cam shook his head, though he knew she wasn’t looking.
“I’m not here for Teddy,” he replied. “I came to see you.”
Indie glanced up at that, her expression guarded. She saw the slightly desperate look in his eyes and sighed, putting the paperwork to one side.
“Cam, I really don’t have the energy to do this right now…” she trailed off, cursing herself as tears sprang to her eyes. She glanced upwards to try and stop them from falling. Cam took a few steps forward and sat next to her, keeping a respectful distance between them. He stared down at the floor, not really sure where to look.
“I’m not here to push you,” he said softly. “I just wanted to say sorry for this morning. You were sad and I should’ve just given you some space like you asked instead of panicking.” When she didn’t reply, he looked over and noticed the slight tremble in her hands and the teardrops that had landed in her lap. Tentatively, he reached over and took one of her hands; Indie gripped it and released a shaky breath. When Cam glanced up at her face, he noticed the tear tracks there and he sent her a small, sad smile.
“I want to try and fix what’s hurting you,” he continued. “But I know that people need space sometimes. You’ll tell me when you’re ready.”
There was a pause, and Cam nodded, assuming that she wasn’t prepared to talk yet.
“My graduation photos arrived in the post this morning.”
Cam nodded, trying to put the pieces together. They hadn’t really spoken about Indie’s graduation - they hadn’t been together at the time, and Indie hadn’t mentioned it since. He knew it had happened a few days before she’d disappeared on the nurse’s night out; he’d seen one of the pictures on her phone and told her she ‘d looked nice, but that was about it.
“My nan was the one who pushed me to do my degree,” Indie continued after a moment. “She didn’t get to see me graduate… no one did really, and I was sad about that.” She looked up at Cam and their eyes met properly now.
“I didn’t want to get upset before work so I shut it down. I didn’t mean to make you panic.”
They sat in silence for a few moments before Cam put an arm around Indie; she melted into his embrace, wrapping her arms around his middle and closing her eyes. If she focused she could hear his heart beating.
“I’m sorry she wasn’t there,” Cam broke the silence. “But I reckon she would’ve been so proud of you.” Indie nodded against his chest, squeezing him a little tighter. Cam cleared his throat before carrying on.
“I shouldn’t have pushed you this morning,” he added. “Stevie spoke to me about it.”
Indie raised an eyebrow at that, but didn’t move from her position.
“Stevie?”
“Yeah, she told me I was an idiot and said that I needed to fix it or she’d put me in the naughty corner.” That made Indie snort a watery laugh as she sat up and looked at him.
“Well we can’t have that,” she joked. Cam smiled as Indie’s sadness seemed to ease away. An idea popped into his head - something he’d been meaning to ask her for a while now.
“She also called you my girlfriend,” he commented, trying to sound nonchalant. “I quite liked the sound of that.”
Indie deadpanned briefly in his direction, but there was a glint in her eyes and a smile slowly grew on her face.
“Is that your super un-smooth way of asking me to be your girlfriend officially?” she asked. Cam panicked slightly; what if she didn’t want to be his girlfriend? That would be awkward.
“I mean…” he trailed off, trying to find a way to backtrack.
He hadn’t needed to because after a moment of watching Cam suffer, Indie softened and brought a hand up to his cheek. She kissed him briefly before pulling away with a grin.
“I quite like the sound of that too,” she stated. Cam’s face lit up and he kissed her again, longer this time. They sat in the back of the ambulance, legs dangling out of the door, in their own little bubble. They didn’t notice the footsteps approaching or Jan’s exasperated sigh as she spotted the pair.
“Indie. How many times do I have to ask you two to limit the PDA in here?”
Cam and Indie separated with a jolt, eyes wide and startled like two school children who’d been caught talking behind the teacher’s back. Their faces were flushed but despite appearances, they couldn’t bring themselves to care that they’d been caught.
————
When Stevie saw Indie walking into the ED the following morning with a patient, she groaned internally; she couldn’t bring herself to live through another day of Cam pulling sad faces and Indie giving him the silent treatment.
What she saw was the complete opposite of that. Indie took her patient into resus with Teddy, and after the pair left, Stevie watched her glance around the ED as though looking for someone. When the paramedic locked eyes on Cam, her face lit up and she said something to Teddy before heading to the nurse’s station. She had a spring in her step and laughed lightly as she barrelled into him, causing them both to stumble.
Cam smiled at her and they talked for a short while before Indie took a quick glance around and stood on tiptoes to peck him on the cheek. She then headed out of the ED doors, smiling away as though yesterday had never happened.
Stevie took the opportunity to walk over to Cam, who was watching Indie go with a stupidly smitten look on his face.
“Well would you look at that,” she stated, glancing in the direction Indie had left in before turning her attention to Cam. “As gooey and gross as ever. Normal service has resumed then.” She turned and walked away, a small smile on her face in spite of herself. Yes, Stevie enjoyed drama, but she enjoyed it even more when the people she was close to were happy.
And Cam and Indie looked nothing short of happy.

Why does it not surprise me that Indie has an old friend called Badger…
… and why am I even less surprised that Badger has drugs on him… 😭😭😭
Everything we know about her past screams childhood trauma, I’m scared for her (but I’m more scared for Teddy!).

🚨SPOILERS FOR THIS WEEK’S CASUALTY🚨
I cannot tell you how unprepared I am to have my current two favourite Casualty characters (Cam and Indie) go on a date, only for it to probably go wrong (which is what the spoilers seem to imply).
I hate taking sides and I refuse to be a child of divorce! Just let them be happy please, even if it’s not together. 😭
Also, Iain and Jacob fighting (proper fighting), chemical leaks, Indie’s first shift as a QUALIFIED PARAMEDIC 🥳, Teddy and Jan both there too, and a ‘shocking revelations followed by a huge twist’ after the chemical leak…
I don’t know if my heart can take much more 🥲
