Manga Review: Detective Conan chapters 276, 277, and 278
Episode 220 and 221 of the anime. Recommended on Xerblade’s Episode List but not on the Manga Chapter List.
It’s the usual Detective Conan Murder Case. Circumstances bring them to a house where they discover a murder and Conan Solves it. To be honest, I had already seen this episode. So I was somewhat familiar with the case. Although, I was more familiar a certain character than the actual happenings of the case. The story gives us the introduction of Heiji’s mother as well as set up the next story.
These chapters probably do more for the plot, than the last. But I’d admit, it isn’t much. Relevance to the plot is minor. It can be skipped, if one wants to get through this manga quickly. I don’t think there is much harm in skipping these chapters.
Despite that, Heiji’s mom is pretty cool.

Well that is something i know can happen, and it makes sense. i can see the geneology behind that.
But skin color is a different thing. It tends to be the mix of parents skin tones. I’ve never heard of let’s say White passing parents producing a Black passing child because of the mixed grandparents.
Tumblr media
Is this even possible???
Can you inherit skincolor from your grandparents? Can someone be darker than both biological parents??

Manga Review: Detective Conan Chapters 273, 274, and 275.
Episodes 212 and 213 of the anime. It is recommended on Xerblade’s Important Anime Episode List. However, it’s not recommended on the chapter list.
The story is mainly about the Detective Boy camping and collecting Mushrooms. And of course death surrounds Conan, so of course someone dies and so on and so forth.
The main focus is on Haibara and that skinny little boy whose name I don’t care to remember. He has a crush on her. Which is weird for me, who knows she’s like more than 10 years older than him.
There is this cute moment with a bear.
Tumblr media
But none of that made up for the feeling that I wasted my time. There is NO plot progression. One could argue for character development. But this wasn’t worth it. It is once again a case where majority of it, is Case Solving shenanigans. And barely anything for the overall story.

I think I’m hitting that same Fatigue i get when i read Detective Conan and want to stop.
It’s like I really don’t want to drop it. But I also really don’t want to continue reading.
I’m also thinking about restructuring how I do my reviews.

Detective Conan Chapters 270, 271, 272
PreReview Blurb:
Episodes 226 and 227 of the anime . Recommended on both Anime List and Manga List. I’ve never actually read these chapters or watched these episodes. But I’m a little familiar with the character of Jodi. I don’t know much about her beyond, she shows up later and her english is horrible in the anime.
About The Cases:
Dude dies in the Arcade. Conan solves the case and uses Sonoko as a substitute for Kogoro.
My Enjoyment: 3/10
If the last story was a struggle. This was even worse. Again, there is nothing really wrong with the story. It’s a typical Detective Conan story. But it may be why I feel so fatigued about it. I really wanted to stop reading. And truthfully, I skimmed most of it. I didn’t care how Conan solved the case. I don’t even remember or understand what the killer did.
Relevance to The Plot: A little relevant.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the only plot relevant thing and it’s last two pages. Jodi is up to something. And I don’t know what. And I have this feeling, I won’t see her for a bit. I kinda wish I was more invested in the story to not feel frustrated. Because it feels like only 10% of this story is actually plot relevant. And only the ending.

Detective Conan Chapters 267, 268, 269
PreReview Blurb:
Episodes 205 and 206. Recommended on both Anime List and Manga List. I’ve never actually read these chapters or watched these episodes
About The Cases:
It’s a Sato and Takagi focus chapters. They are trying to find an arsonist. It also involves a decade old crime that lead to death of Sato’s father.
Enjoyment: 5/10
For some reason, it was a struggle to read this. It’s odd cause I really like Sato and Takagi. But I kept putting off these chapters. I suppose my problem lies with the plot. It’s not this story in particular, but the overall of Detective Conan in general.
Relevance to The Plot: Not really
Probably one of the more frustrating things about reading Detective Conan is coming across chapters like these. Where barely anything of real significance happens in the story. But we get little sprinkles of minor plot elements like character development.
The story is focused on two people who aren’t main characters. But I know they appear later and I know that they are apart of the character roster.
I just wish that I could get actual plot relevant stories mixed with these minor details such as character chapters.

Detective Conan Chapters 264, 265, 266
PreReview Blurb:
Episode 199 and 200. Recommended on the Episode List, but not on the Manga List. I have actually seen this episode before.
About The Cases:
Eri Kisaki, Ran’s Mom, Returns. And of course murder happens. And seeing that Eri is involved, Conan doesn’t need to put anyone to sleep to solve the case. He just aids and gives hit to steer Eri to the correct conclusion and help trap the murderer.
Enjoyment: 7/10
It might be that I already saw this episode, that i kinda skimmed these chapters. But nonetheless, I did like it. But it might be because I really like Eri Kisaki.
Relevance to The Plot: Not really
Although, nothing actually progresses the plot, I suppose you could say it adds to the characters. Mainly the Mouri family. If you’re trying to get through Detective Conan as fast as possible, then it can technically be skipped. You wouldn’t miss anything plot related if you did.
But what it does do is add to characterizations of the Mouri Family. And I honestly feel chapters like these help make these characters their own. And they don’t just feel like people that exist in Conan’s world.
It can be skipped if someone wants to get on with the plot. But it’s a recommended read if you enjoy Ran, Kogoro, and Eri.

Detective Conan Chapters 251 through 260
PreReview Blurb:
Episodes 188 through 193 of the anime. Highly recommended on both lists for good reasons. I’ve seen clips on the Youtube, but never fully watched it or read it.
About The Cases:
So the actual murder cases barely matter. They are so irrelevant, we are told who the killer is in the last case right before the murder happens. Perhaps the case that had any significance to the plot is the one about the Detective Boys in the cave. And only because an incident there triggers a series of events. And these events are what is important. We are brought back to the main conflict of the series. That is the fact that Shinichi has been shrunk thanks to the Black Organization.
Conan gets serious injured in the first part of the story. And it seems that Ran is suspecting Conan to be Shinichi again. And in an attempt to stir her away from that, Haibara comes up with a solution. (P.S. Heiji attempts to help but fails) And that is to bring back Shinichi. Her prototype Antidote allows him to change back, but it is only temporary.
To help create the illusion that Conan and Shinichi are different people, Haibara even disguises herself as Conan. It seems like Shinichi wants to confess everything to Ran. Or just wants to Confess his love. But sadly it doesn’t happen and he becomes Conan. Because of course he does. The series wouldn’t have been running for 20+ years if he stopped being Conan.
Enjoyment: 10/10
It was very good. And being girly romantic shipper that I am, I ate a lot of this up.
Relevance to The Plot: IMPORTANT
It’s funny because a lot of things are happening. But in actuality, very little progress is made. It more like a circle. It looks like we are getting somewhere. But we just end up back at square one. Perhaps the thing that’s new is that Haibara has a prototype antidote. And unfortunately the antidote wears off.
But despite it’s ending, it’s relevant due to its focus on Shinichi and his Conan Identity. And the lengths the characters go to persevere that identity. The other thing is Ran once again suspects Conan to be Shinichi. Which she is correct about. I don’t know how others feel about her character, but I like how observant and perceptive she is. She does notice when something is wrong. She may not always understand it. But she is aware. And I am so grateful, that she is not 100% clueless.

I actually love how he is trying to resist going to check it out. He is trying to focus on Ran.

Ran is actually very aware of shit. She’s so spot on. She ain’t stupid. She’s so correct, but she tends to back down. I’m not exactly sure if she’s in denial. Or if she just needs a bit more confidence.
But it’s interesting. And I’m greatful that Gosho Aoyama doesn’t make her completely clueless.
But sadly i know what comes next. Sigh.

Lol. I saw a clip of this on YouTube. It’s always funny no matter how many times I see it.
Shinichi has been Conan too long. He automatically calls her Ran-Neechan.

1. Heiji in Shinchi Cosplay
2. Brah. You’re eyebrows!
3. You didn’t fool no one. They just think you’re a fool.
So, this is actually the scene I saw on youtube a while back. But I love how Gosho tries to trick the reader into thinking Shinichi is in the audience. But jokes on us it was Heiji in Shinichi cosplay the whole time.
I think if I hadn’t seen this particular scene, I would have hella thought Shinichi had sat next to “Conan”.
