Think tumblr may have eaten my ask from a few months ago but if not sorry for the resend. This kitty was at my local animal shelter, any idea what’s going on with that mask pattern?

I… really don’t know.

The mask somewhat resembles the signature “zorro” mask pattern of charcoal cats but that make be coincidence, the texture of the fur there appears to be radically different and the ears and possibly the paws also seem to have that darker gray coloration so I think it’s more likely part of some pointed pattern. I would guess the tail is also dark.

The main body of the coat is distinctly silver-tipped giving a frosted look but this cat appears to be much too old for any sort of “fever coat” situation, although I suppose other illnesses or nutritional deficiencies can cause oddities to occur.

Any ideas @amber-tortoiseshell?
