WIP: Blame Atlas Save Atlas
Tumblr media
Title: Blame Atlas Save Atlas
Summary: People in Tacoma are going missing. Trinity Warren knows the creature responsible for the disappearances— seven years ago, it took her voice. Now she must join forces with fellow college students Isaac and Noah to stop it, and to reclaim what they’ve lost.
Genres:  NA Fiction, Supernatural, LGBT+
Progress: Halfway through the first draft
Themes: Family, friendship, romance, mental illness, forgiveness, grief
Content Warnings: Suicide & suicidal ideation, addiction, underage drinking, self-harm, violence, transphobia, mild homophobia
Main characters:
-Trinity Warren 18, black, trans. A mute girl with a kind heart and a lot of wisdom. She struggles to connect with others. A little shy at first, but is mischievous once she opens up to people. Can hold a grudge.
-Isaac Avia 18, Hispanic/Pacific Islander. Always tired. May seem grumpy, sarcastic and blunt, but somewhere beneath his prickly exterior is a fun and playful side. He’s just dealing with life screwing him over right now.
-Noah Wether 19, white, bi. He’s a nervous wreck but he’s trying really hard. Noah is naive and optimistic, with a passion for helping others. Childhood friends with Isaac.
Excerpt
The dark silhouette looming over me was uncanny. It wasn’t an animal. It wasn’t human, though it had human parts. Too many of them in the wrong places. The moistness of its countless mismatched eyes caught the light. It was looking at me.
“I will give you your wish.” It spoke with hundreds of voices, young, old, male and female all at once. I couldn’t look away from all of its teeth. Everything in me wanted to run, but my instincts screamed not to turn my back.
I whimpered.
It dragged itself forward on dozens of arms and legs. Many were bent oddly, tumorous or rotting. I shrank back and threw my arms over my face. My breath came hard and fast. Oh God. Oh God. Oh God.
It came closer and closer until I could feel the hot, damp exhales of its mouths. It smelled so strongly of roadkill I could taste it. An odd calm settled over me. I was going to die and I knew it. I just wished I could’ve told Mom and Aurora I loved them one last time.

Question for Jewish People
So I have a character who was/is Jewish, yeah? She’s in a world where most of her life here on Earth is forgotten, but she has some memories still shine through, making her quite special. Obviously she doesn’t remember everything about it, maybe not even what it’s called, but she has snippets.
What I’d like to know, is if you could only express one bit of your faith, which would be the most important? Hard question, I imagine, but I want to be able to get the idea across without directly stating it (though my main character might bring it up, as a person that has full memories of Earth). She remembers things like the Star of David (she still has her pendant), and she stays away from any meat that resembles pork and non-kosher to the best of her abilities since the animals aren’t the same, though she can’t place why she does it. I want it to be meaningful, like something that was so important to her and her family that it survived.
As someone who doesn’t practice any religion, this is a kind of idea I can’t really reach the depths of on my own. Thank you in advance for any help! I do intend to do more research, of course, but personal stuff is hard to research ;)

Oh my gosh, I have the same problem with outlines. Whenever I do actually write one, I feel the need to detail everything and I need to learn to hold back and just get down the overall plan for the novel.
I focus on the outline being so specific and it stresses me out!
I think I’m finally realising that my outline doesn’t have to include every single detail of the story. If I wanted to I could choose to have a shitty outline or (get this) no outline at all!!!
What a concept!!!!
I can write however I damn want to!!!!!!!!!
And it doesn’t matter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Because it’s my book and no one else’s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Top 10 Tips for Actually Writing
for the writer who can’t seem to write.
Buy a pencil and paper. Get a writing program and a keyboard.
Spill all your ideas into a notebook that will never see the light of day. Write down literally every idea you have that even sort of relates to the scene/chapter/book that you want to write until your thoughts converge on a pointed attack.
Quality vs. Quantity? No competition. Quantity all the way. The more you write, the better you will know your story. Worry about Quality LATER.
Think about where the idea came from. Go there. Set up a cardboard box and live there. This is your home now.
What is the coolest, most self-indulgent thing you can think of? That’s what you want to write at this point, until you get some steam.
Short-term goals, my friends. And by short-term, I mean a minute from now, ten seconds from now. What are you going to do to write RIGHT NOW? Stop thinking about an hour from now, stop thinking about a day from now.
This is not a book. This is not a book. You are not writing a book. You are writing a story. A story is much easier to take bites out of than a book. A book is a big, scary, colossal thing. Stories are fun and carefree.
Get yourself a writing friend. A cactus, an old bottle of nail polish, a fish in an appropriately sized tank, etc. Make them hold you accountable.
Set crazy low goals. Promise yourself you will write ten words today. Ten words and you will be the Best Writer in the Entire World to Ever Exist. Accomplishing things is a morale booster and will urge you to write more.
Just keep writing. I believe in you.

Reblog this by the time I get home from work tomorrow.
That’s usually around 640pm PST.
Anyway, reblog this by then and I’ll add you to a list of writeblrs that reblogged it. I’ll assign a batch of you to a different cryptid. You have to list all of your OCs that are that creature and then tell us their favorite color, animal, what they like about being the creature they are, what they hate about it and their best friend(s) (and the dynamic between the besties).
Aaand go!

As the person in charge of the kid’s chapter books at my library (the Juvenile Fiction Collection - nicknamed JFic), anytime y’all say JFC my first thought is that you’re using Juvenile Fiction as a swear, and not that you are breaking the third commandment.

I really want an ant farm! I could watch the little buggers all day!
So the wind is terrible and you can’t really see much, but I found a log yesterday with a whole ant colony living in it! There were aphids, winged ants, and bunches of workers going in and out of the lil holes!
