Which is responsible for criminality? Degradation of values or socio-economic conditions?
Crime is a serious threat to any society. Crime is the main obstacle to the overall development of the country and the nation and a serious threat to public safety. But, what is the main reason behind the crime? Have you ever thought? Actually there are several reasons behind the crime. There is no single reason for the crime. "Birth is like that; action is good" the poet rightly says: crime can have nothing to do with birth. A person born in a commoner's house may attain extraordinary fame by virtue of his deeds. In the same way, a person born in a famous family can come down to the rank of commoner by virtue of karma. Degradation of values causes people to lose their sense of consideration, as a result of which they become prone to crime. Values vary from person to person, which he imbibes through socialization during his lifetime. And socialization takes place in the person's family, environment and socio-economic environment in which he lives. An educated person or a member of good society can also be involved in crime, even if he is socialized in a healthy environment. For example, we can talk about white crime or corruption. Values may not be properly formed even after proper socialization. Is socialization the only way to develop values? No, never! The socio-economic environment of the person also plays an important role in this. In fact, we cannot blame any single factor. There are many factors involved in crime. Generally, criminal tendencies are more noticeable among poor and uneducated people. There are several reasons behind this. For example: lack of education, inability to meet basic needs, lack of morality, lack of healthy environment and habits. In this case it can be said that the socio-economic condition is dual. Poverty is largely responsible for crime. Due to scarcity they cannot keep up with the mainstream, thus they fall behind. In terms of education, and health, they are in a fragile position. As a result of this, the income of the poor is reduced or they suffer from unemployment. They generate no capital, and are trapped in a vicious cycle of poverty.

And so their social situation paves the way for their involvement in crime. As an example we can talk about the poor areas of our country, especially the slums. People in these areas are more prone to crime. But it is not only socioeconomic status that is responsible for crime. A lot depends on values. One of the causes of corruption is the erosion of values. People become corrupt for abuse of power, lack of money etc. There are many other reasons why people lose their values and become prone to crime. Such as psychological and biological reasons, temptation, greed, anger etc. As we can say by exploiting the influence of position and influence to gain interest and abuse of power. As a result of which chaos is created in the society. Other people are harmed so it is a crime. These crimes are committed only for degradation of values. When an educated and prosperous man loses his sense of consideration, he gets involved in crime out of willful oblivion.

So socio-economic conditions and values both depend on crime. Crime is not committed for any single reason.
