“I can’t remember what we were doing at all, I think it was tag or something, but I was running from you and I tripped and scraped my knee up pretty bad. I still have a faint scar from it, kinda – you gotta look close but you can see the scar tissue.” He pats his knee and Y/N dips down under the table to get a look at the skin, seeing the faint white lines that have permanently made their place, “Anyway, you felt bad ‘cos you thought it was your fault and started crying too. Then when – it was a different guard, at the time, he was an older man I can’t remember his name – he brought a first aid kit over but you wouldn’t let him do it. You wanted to do it, so you took it from his hands, and you took care of my knee while you hiccuped and cried. It was adorable.” 

She laughs a little, head tilted, “What’s making you think about that?”

He shrugged his shoulders, “You’re just kind of the same is all, just taller and a little more well-versed with your emotions. Your comebacks have gotten better too.” Harry scoops the eggs from his plate onto his fork, “I’m just feeling sentimental, is all. I’m glad I found my way back to you.”

And Harry sounds calm so Y/N feels calm, reading off the lax state of his body and the syrupy sound of his voice. By the time he says goodbye, he must have known she was awake, because his hand moves from where it was tucked around her waist to pat at her hip gently, “Go back to bed, baby,” he tells her, but just as he’s about to peel his arm away from her entirely, she grabs him. She was surprised that she could move that quickly after just waking up – Harry must be too if the startled noise that left him is anything to go by – and she slowly pulled his arm back around her body, “Oh?” 

“Shut up,” she presses her face into the pillow like she’s hiding from his gaze even though she’s faced away from him, “Don’t move.” 

“Gosh, you’re bossy,” he countered but his arm stays fixed around her waist, and he even brings her closer to his body. Y/N makes a pleased sound in the back of her throat, relaxing back into his hold, “Goodnight, Pet.”

But how could she voice this? Nobody else had made her request it explicitly, so she really wasn’t sure what to request. Any version of her saying it just sounds more and more pathetic, to speak the words aloud would be embarrassing. 

“You want me to stay?” Harry offered, after some time, and she was grateful for it as she nodded, “Just in the room?” 

Her face feels warm as her eyes glance over to the other side of her bed, “It’s…it’s a big bed,” she told him, swallowing thickly, “You can lay down if you’re tired.” 

Harry’s lips quirk into a tiny, halfway smile, and Y/N had seen that look enough to know some form of a taunt typically follows it, “Oh I see,” he began, lifting himself up onto her bed and crawling over her body to get to the side she offered, “Was this a ploy to get me into your bed? You could have just asked, Sweetheart, but I would have asked for dinner first.”

“But why would you –” 

“Oh,” he exhaled a long breath, leaning back and his arms met the other edge of the table behind him, which makes it difficult not to hyper-fixate on his arms, and oh, whoa, he had a lot more tattoos than she had thought. She’d seen the few on his forearm but never more than that,  “You ask a lot of questions, Sweetheart. Shouldn’t you just be happy to see me or something? I brought cats, soup, and jelly candies, most people would just be grateful.” 

A scoff escapes her, and her eyes roll up toward the ceiling with a twitch of her lashes, “You’re obnoxious,” she pulled herself up from the sofa, reminded of her lunch and the distant grumble in her stomach speaking to how a cinnamon roll was not enough to sustain her for more than a few hours, “Really, you should be grateful that I even put up with you.”
